Radio

Radio was what I wanted to make a living in. I wasn't successful at it, so I ended up working for the telephone company for 17 years, overlapped with running a BBS that turned into a Unix Timeshare, that turned into an Internet Service Provider (for 15+ years now).

I loved radio, everything else has mostly been making a living. I enjoyed the Internet when it was new and unique, and while it's now tremendously useful, it doesn't have the same feel it had back then and it's been difficult lately.

Last night I had a dream, I was assembling a AM radio station. I always preferred AM, yea, I know the money is in FM, the sound quality is in FM.. But the excitement isn't in FM.

I always liked the big "blow torch" AM stations, particularly some of the high powered Mexican stations, like when XePRS was running the experimental Harris transmitter.

In this dream I was going through a check list, getting read to go on the air; antenna tower, check, transmitter check, studio check, studio-transmitter link, check, license, check...

St. Helens & Dreams

I've related in the past the dreams I've had involving massive volcanism. When St. Helens blew it's top I thought it had begun. I have looked at the activity of various Cascade volcanoes and while geologists claim they are independent, I believe I see a pattern in that most of the time when one becomes active, most of the others do within a century, with the exception of Mt. Rainier. Many years have passed, and there hasn't been a major increase in volcanic activity. St. Helens continues to do dome building since 2004.

An article about Mt. St. Helens, in physorg.com, suggests that St. Helens has become an open system like Kilauea in Hawaii with magma being replenished from a source deep within the earth as fast as it comes to the surface. This is indicated by the fact that the flanks are no longer distorting as they would if the magma chamber were emptying.

Usually Cascade volcanoes are thought to be the result of subducting Pacific Ocean plate re-melting and rising to the surface, not a continuous flow process. Kilauea is fed by a hot spot which may be bringing material all the way from the core-mantel boundary. Such a hot spot also exists beneath Yellowstone. At one time it existed beneath the area along the Washington-Oregon border and was thought to be the source of the huge Columbia River Basin basaltic floods that occurred between 17 million and six million years ago. The North American plate moved westward and overtime the hot spot under it gradually moved eastward until it assumed it's present position under Yellowstone.

Recent analysis of the chemical composition of these basaltic floods suggests a lithospheric mantel source rather than a deeper asthenic source. It is still possible that the hot spot played a role in the lithospheric instability but the actual source of magma does not appear to be deep.

My concern is that as the plate moved over the hot spot, that a sort of hot trail back towards this region remained, sort of a conduit, that perhaps would feed these Pacific volcanoes.

In central Oregon, west of Bend, there is a patch of land that began rising in 1997 and has continued to rise at a rate of 1.4 inches per year. According to an article in PhysOrg.com, the land has continued to rise at this rate and in 2004 a swarm of 350 small earthquakes indicated magma movement under ground.

The Yellowstone super volcano system has erupted on average every 600,000 years, it's been 620,000 since the last eruption. Is it gearing up for another? Part of the Cascade system may be plumbed into it and participate.

Alien Involvement

The dreams that I have of the future thus far haven't had any alien involvement on a significant scale. I actually find this somewhat odd as there seems to be some involvement by extraterrestrials now.

In the future, I do see us, as in man, having technology that would certainly seem alien to us now but you don't have any prophetic dreams or psychic gifts to know that.

Specifically though, one technology I do see is gravity control. The gravity control technology that I see is actually rather trivial to implement once you know how. Not a lot more complex than "banging the rocks together".

I've seen the innards of one device, a small levitating platform used for advertising at outdoor events. It had devices that resembled transformers, iron cores with copper wire windings that were bolted firmly to the chassis, and moderate power electronics to drive them.

The devices that resembled transformers were not, the core was not configured right for and neither were the coils. My recollection is somewhat cloudy but I believe each device had four coils wound around the outside arm of each side of a four sided core, it is the inner configuration of the core that is particularly cloudy.

There were electronics that drove these devices that had power transistors mounted on heat sinks that were sized similarly to what a moderate power home stereo might have if it were done in discrete components instead of integrated circuits.

There was something resembling a battery or large capacitor providing power, I'm not sure which, it was big, blue, and housed in plastic.

That device was actually one of the better that the technology as put to use for. I see it used widely in craft or vehicles used to control the public in a rather draconian style of government.

Eye Surgery

Last night I dreamt that I had eye surgery on both of my eyes. I am guessing it was cataract surgery because, although after the surgery I could see, I was a afraid to look in the mirror for fear or what the iris of my eyes would look like. For some reason I believed it likely that they were mangled in the operation and would be ugly.
