Nightmare

I dreamt I was on an air force base in a large hall. It was some sort of a holiday dance. There was a DJ there and they were playing recorded music.

Some background, I used to do these as well as sound reinforcement and PA for live music and events. (Still have a couple of Sun model 15's, amplifier and mixer but no means to transport them).

The announcer stops the music and says that we may be under nuclear attack. Bright flashes have been reported over Nevada and Arizona. He suggests we take cover immediately.

I got under a table and covered my face and I felt the building shake, but it kept doing it again and again. I could see lights flashing in a window but they were red streaks night bright white flashes.

I got up and went to the window and it looked like a scene out of star wars. Strange shaped flying craft, not looking like or moving anything like conventional craft, were attacking the base with some kind of beam weapon, and the base had stationary weapons that projected a similar beam attacking the crafts.

I woke up at this point in the dream. I did make the mistake of watching Mars Attacks or at least having it on while doing other things a couple of weeks ago, but the details were different, ships were different, beams were red not green, they moved entirely differently.

China

Last night, I dreamt the kids were all grown and out and my wife and I took a trip to China, something we do in fact hope to do some day.

In the part of the dream I remember most, just before I woke up, we were somewhere in central China and somewhat northernly. We had come in south, possibly through Hong Kong and then traveled northward and slightly to the east, to some place near Xian.

We stayed with a family up there for a few days, and it was my impression that the people there were a lot friendlier than those down south who seemed to be a lot more commercial for lack of a better word.

While we were there I thought I had been there for about eleven days. I should call home and let my mother know we are there, for some reason I said nothing before we left. However, we were outside the city and we the phone system was weird.

The father of the family asked how long I planned to stay in China, and I said as long as money would allow but at some point I would need to return to business at home.

I don't have any recollection of thinking about this at all in the day proceeding. The only remote tie that I can think of is that I have a friend who is Chinese, or actually Taiwanese, who I had spoken to earlier that evening and was a bit worried about.
