It is really an incredible structure to behold; especially considering it is a structure in a gas, not a solid, or more properly a plasma, in which energetic photons have stripped the electrons off of atoms in the gas.

On the outside you see what are usually thought to be convection cells, although I have my doubts because of their apparent attachment to the filamentary structures which are comprised of charge plasma particles carried along magnetic field lines, or so goes the conventional theory.

The lines appear to twist and turn and bend in ways that appear different than the way iron filings follow a magnetic field line, but then in a plasma there is an important difference, the charged particles themselves, moving, create their own magnetic fields interacting with the existing magnetic field and creating incredibly complex magnetic structures. When I look at these, really stare at them, I can't help but feel the presence of something alive and sentient.

When there is a sunspot group in one hemisphere, there is usually a corresponding feature in the other hemisphere and field lines looping between them. When one of these loops breaks and magnetic field lines reconfigure, then you get a part of the gas ejected into space at tremendous velocity, and if it intercepts the Earth you get intensified Auroras and other space weather phenomena.

Sun / Snow

I posted earlier with respect to the dreams I have of the future having increased snow in this area if we are taking the good path. I am not certain which way we are going to go but I mentioned this year's snow providing some hope that perhaps things will work out without so much pain and suffering.

There are to be sure still evil people planning evil things, a missing nuke that is bound to show up as a mushroom cloud somewhere and used as an excuse to invade Iran, which is really invading Russia by proxy, rather like Viet Nam was really a war with the Chinese by proxy. I think there is not consensus though within that group that it's such a good idea and I hope they decide against proceeding. We really don't need WW III and that's what it is bound to become if it were to happen.

I have posted here and on my Future Sustainable Living blog, regarding the role the sun plays in Earth's climate, and I think it's important to emphasize that because if people do not understand it then they will come to think "global warming" is bogus and just a political or economic ploy. The way the topic of global warming is presented by Al Gore really is bogus. Global warming is real, but it's far more complex than Al Gore and others portray and it's important to understand those complexities and how they affect us.

The first thing to understand is that Global Warming is not all human caused, it's not all caused by carbon dioxide build-up in the atmosphere, and on shorter timescales, carbon dioxide is a minor contributor. By shorter timescales, I mean in terms of a couple of decades or less. In these short intervals, natural variations in the Sun's activity, and in the Earth's magnetosphere, and in cosmic rays all play a larger role.

Our sun, goes through solar cycles lasting approximately 22 years for a full cycle, in which the magnetic field reverses its poles, and then reverses back to the original polarity. During the time the magnetic field is strong, sunspots and coronal mass ejections are frequent. During the time the magnetic field is weak and in the process of reversing, sunspots are minimal.

Higher sunspot activity results in warmer climates on Earth, lower sunspot activity results in cooler climates on Earth. The last three solar cycles have been highly active, each more active than the cycle before it, Earth, as well as every planet in the solar system has been warming. Now, the sun is going through an extraordinary quiet period and we've just had the coolest winter on record in the northern hemisphere.

This isn't to say that global warming is caused by the Sun alone, it is to say that the temperature variations induced by the changes in the suns radiance during the period of a solar cycle is larger than the gradual increase in temperature attributable to global warming. During periods of high solar activity, the Earth's average temperature increases far more rapidly than carbon dioxide accounts for, and during periods of low solar activity, the Earth's average temperature decreases, even in spite of carbon dioxide buildup, but over the coarse of several solar cycles, the Earth's temperature does, on average, increase due to extra carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Increased carbon dioxide also plays havoc with ocean chemistry and changes in ocean currents that result are far more pressing dangers than global warming when it comes to the effects of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. For these reasons we need to ween ourselves from fossil fuels.

Dreams, ADD, Dual N-Back Brain Training

I suffer from adult onset ADD symptoms, and looking for alternatives to drug solutions because they are not without a plethora of problems, I ran across an article on computerized brain training which related studies that have found a form of brain exercise called Jaeggi-Buschkuehl dual n-back task training to be beneficial as it improves working memory and many of the brain functions implicated in ADD.

Being anxious to find a better alternative to drugs, I searched for an online form of this training and found it (click on the link above to go there) in a flash implementation at a website called Cognitive Fun. There were a number of reasons I was looking for alternatives; the drugs aren't affective over the whole day, they make adjusting to variable sleep schedule extremely difficult, and they stimulants have potential health risks associated with them such as high blood pressure, increased rate of cognitive function loss with aging, etc, and for me another issue is that my brain tends to adjust to anything that attempts to alter it's chemistry rather rapidly and drugs become ineffective. The research indicated that dual N-Back training continued to provide increasing benefits the longer it was practiced.

I found there are side effects to this training. When I first started it was extremely exhausting. After half an hour of training I would become profoundly tired. I found it more manageable to break this up into two fifteen minute sessions and to follow each session with fifteen minutes of meditation that gives my brain some recovery time. Of coarse, real-life, business, kids, company, wife, all demanding attention don't make this always possible.

The second side effect, and the one that is particularly relevant to this blog is that it causes me to dream intensely, more intensely than anything else ever has. The dreams are vivid, long, complex, involved. They have not been, to date, the type of dreams that are predictive, but they do seem to make associations that upon waking, I often find useful, however, I also find them so intense as to at times be emotionally difficult, and that's not to say that they are nightmarish or frightening in the normal sense, but rather that their intensity is just so great that it is overwhelming. I also find these dreams often involve being someone else who is entirely different than myself which is something I haven't experienced in dreams until lately.

In healthy people dual N-back training still produces improvement in what is referred to as fluid intelligence, so even if you're completely healthy you might want to consider this. I am curious if others experience the same dream side effect. If you enjoy hallucinogens you might well enjoy the dream side effect if this also happens to you because the dreams very much have that quality to them.

Snow, Good Path?

On December 30, 2006, I wrote an article about how I see Earth changes occurring and that there are two different potential paths all depending upon how we act, if we can learn to love and forgive, or if we have to keep being indifferent and hateful, and not just to our fellow humans, but all life. We really must begin to sense and feel the connectivity that we have with all things, that we are all one, and think in terms of the greater good.

This year in the Seattle area, we had Snow the latest we've ever had it in the season, into the third week of April, and yesterday, when much of the snow in the mountains is usually melted, yesterday June 11th we had two feet of fresh snow up at Stevens Pass and Snoqualmie also got some snow. For a lot of people this is disconcerting, an unfamiliar pattern, the weather is doing strange things we haven't seen. It does mean things are changing and change has the potential to be negative or positive. But I see it as a positive indication because in the dreams, I only see the increase in snowfall on the positive path.

I have to admit this is incongruent with the way things seem to feel right now. It feels like there is a terrible amount of hostility in the world and that the hostility has stepped up. But the Yin-Yang symbol I put here for a reason. The idea behind this symbol is that the seeds of change are in the present.

If you look at what we've had over the last several decades, it's been driven primarily by greed, power mongering, hatred, we've fought, stolen resources, invaded a sovereign nation and killed it's leader as well as hundreds of thousands of it's citizens.

We've not profited from this, as we've harmed other countries, so too have we harmed ourselves. We now have the largest national debt and deficit in the history of this country. We have most of the world hating us as the direct result of our actions. The US dollar isn't worth squat anymore. We've gone from being third in life expectancy to 49th over just a couple of decades. We've jailed 2% of our population, more than any other nation in the world. We now have oil prices that are more than four times higher than they were before Bush had us invade Iraq.

But there is a positive side; some people are actually starting to realize this was not such a good plan. The high cost of oil has spurred the development of sustainable alternatives. The Chinese are slated to marked a plug-in hybrid that can go 100 miles on a charge next year (while Chevy volt won't be available until 2010 and at a price of $45,000 I'm gonna bet the Chinese outsell them). Obama looks to be an interesting leader; first I've seen that seems to actually recognize that there are two sides to every conflict and first that has shown a willingness to listen to both sides. Time will tell, but maybe there is hope.

In the dreams that take the more positive path; what I see next is intensified Auroras or something that at least looks like that, or sometimes so intense that it looks like a false dusk/dawn after/before sunset/sunrise. If we see these we are on our way.

Air Force Dream

Had a dream last night in which I was an air force test pilot. The thing that makes this particularly odd for me is that I've never been in the military, don't have an interest in being in the military, never learned to fly a plane. I have played with simulators so I have an understanding of basic controls and physics but that's about it.

In this dream the air force had a new jet engine and airplane built around that engine that could accelerate extremely rapidly allowing takeoff to happen in very confined environment, but still reach high speeds.

Earth Changes

On the subject of various dreams I've had in the past, I do believe things are ramping up. I've mentioned the intense Auroras. Today, the sun let loose with a coronal mass ejection that was unlike any that have been seen before. This time it was on the Sun's east limb so it won't directly affect us, but the solar cycle appears to be ramping up in earnest and it's giving indications that it's going to be unique.

In 1859 there was a massive solar flare that inducted so much current in telegraph lines that it set telegraph paper on fire, and operators were able to send messages without batteries. Intense auroras were seen that made dusk and dawn look like mid-day. Newspapers could be read by the auroras. There is a recording of a similar event several thousand years ago in Mayan records.

We are aware of solar cycles that are 22 years in duration (peaking every 11 years, but switching poles each time so that a full cycle takes 22 years), it's worth noting that 11 years for half-cycle is just an average, there is variability with half-cycles taking anywhere from 9 to as many as 14 years. There is also a longer term cycle of 87-88 years, a still longer cycle of approximately 210 years, a super-cycle that appears to result from the interplay between those two that happens approximately every 1470 years, and I believe there may be even longer term cycles. For a ball of gas that is compressed by gravity to the point where it's constituents gradually fuse, the Sun is a very complex animal.

My use of the term complex animal isn't accidental either; I believe there is actually a living aspect to the Sun, and everything, but plasmas in particular I believe have sentience potential as a result of their interplay of chaos and order; much like that which occurs in brains, and the Sun's plasma is extremely complex and structured.

Many people are familiar with the fact that the Mayan calendar ends with the winter solstice of 2012. Many people believe this also will be the end of the world; but I don't believe so, and neither did the Mayans. It is however, the end of the age, things will change, those changes are already underway, there things happening within the Earth and heavens that are new to us. They may have happened before in the distant past, but not within the reaches of recorded human history.

These changes can be peaceful and gradual and beneficial to human kind, or they can be sudden, violent, painful, and deadly to human kind, it is up to us decide. If we accept the transition, work with it, welcome it, and adjust with it, then it will be a pleasant transition. If we resist the transition, fight it, continue to fight each other, then it is going to be of the violent nasty sort that will be most unpleasant and few of us will physically make it through.

I regret to say that I believe the path we seem to be collectively choosing is the path of resistance, a path where we maintain the status quo of hate and war, greed and ignorance, death and destruction, and I believe that I will not be here for the final hour, assuming I have properly decoded a message, and I find that regrettable as I've seen the aftermath and the re-worked planet is a rather pleasant place both socially and physically.

However, I see now that volcanic activity is on the upswing world wide. There are unprecedented Earthquake swarms; that is to say seismic activity that does not fit any previous known patterns, not along any known fault lines, plates seem to be moving, and now the Sun is becoming active.

In the dreams, just before things really get hot and heavy I first see these brilliant auroras, so brilliant they can be mistaken for a false dawn or daylight way past dusk, this is kind of like the last warning when we see this; it's the last point before the paths radically diverge.

After that, if we take the path of resistance; we'll see Pacific Cascade volcanoes becoming active all up and down the coast; but worse, we'll see new volcanoes and mountains we never new were volcanic becoming active. New volcanoes in the foothills on either side of I-90 dump so much ash and cinders as to render it impassible. The type of ash I see is much different than Mount St. Helens, not the fine gray powder but marble sized chunks of red-brown pumice, and also something not typical of subduction zone volcanoes, very hot flowing lava, not the thick sticky toothpaste lavas that form domes but not much else that we typically see.

I don't know what happens south of our region but our own military prevents us from escaping to the south, to the point of firing on anybody who tries with automatic weapons. Perhaps there is an epidemic of something that they are trying to prevent being spread to the south but I never see the reason why, just that attempting to go south results in automatic weapon fire being unpleasantly directed at ones person.

Attempting to go east, if I go early I make it to eastern Washington, there, to the north of I-90 a sort of volcanic cauldron forms though it's not the collapsed top of a magma chamber; rather a large north-south crack in the Earth's crust forms from which magma extrudes; and the East portion of the crack is higher and so the magma flowing out goes west and covers a large area and just stagnates there. A small town near there has magma come up right under it, the streets get hot, and it starts coming out of cracks in the ground, buildings catch fire and burn.

To the south of I-90 towards Yakima, near the army range, there is a huge secret underground military base in the dreams, and the military there isn't evil and firing upon people like it is going south along I-5, instead, they are trying to accommodate people, more than the base was designed to handle. The base is designed like a huge underground corkscrew spiraling down, and at the bottom of the cork screw there is a nuclear reactor that provides power for the base. The military does not know whether the magma will breach the base or not but it's better than being outside at the time. Something like 40,000 people go into it.

I've never gone to the north in the dream or attempted an escape by water. But these are things that happen in the nasty version.

Now, if we change, accept change, give up greed and hatred and start to love and care for our fellow human beings and other life with which we share this planet; then the scenario is much different.

There is volcanism still but it tends to happen away from populated areas and comes with plenty of warning so nobody gets hurt; there is however, also an increase in winter snow, not an ice age like last nights dream, but substantial, and there are hot springs in the foothills and mountains. The ski resort business does very well with the addition of hot springs to warm up in after skiing.

There are people who see a flip in the Earth's crust, and others just a flip in the magnetic field. I do see major changes but not a complete flip, but something does change the Earth's axis of rotation so we end up not having seasons like we do now but instead something that resembles a perpetual spring / summer. Species adapt.

The land is changed in the Pacific Northwest; we lose Puget Sound and the Olympics, but we gain these long fingers of land and water that are oriented SE/NW from roughly where the eastern shore of the Puget Sound is now all the way out to the Pacific Ocean, and this creates much desirable water front land and easy transportation by boat.

The concept of dividing the land up into plots that are property seems largely dead, houses are simpler, the weather is such that heating and cooling aren't needed, many houses simply have open doors and windows, which seems primitive but actually is practical in the new environment. Technology seems much less prevalent; people don't have or watch TV's or play computer games, they interact with each other, play physical games, make music, tell stories.

Somehow we are at peace with animals, they are not a threat to us nor us to them. There is commerce and jobs but it's things we need to live not just we sell to drive an ever ending economy, it's mostly simple very direct activities, fishing, building furniture, moving goods across the waterways.

The water and air are pristine, you can jump in and not be covered with slime, algae and such. I don't know how practical matters such as sewage are handled, but the problems just don't seem to be there; either we've changed too or we simply have found ways. It's just a whole new world literally.

I believe the changes actually started a while ago, when I saw the Aurora Borealis here half a dozen times in a summer when I'd only seen it once in my life prior, and as a teenager I used to often sleep outside under the stars in a sleeping bag, all those years I never saw them, but then I see them frequently, something has changed.

Mt. St. Helens rumbling to life; that I think was an early indicator. Now we've got Earthquake swarms and Earthquakes all over the place; indicating the movement of magma underground, the quakes outside of Las Vegas, publicly scientists state they don't understand them but they do. Magma is moving up a conduit, it cracks rocks on the way, it's about a mile from the surface there. Magma has also moved up under Mt. Rainier; it's moving up in an area about 20 miles east of the three sisters area of Oregon, it's coming up under a lake bed in Yellowstone, it's coming up under water off the Oregon Shores, and by the Aleutian islands, and existing volcanoes are popping off all over the place, from Alaska down to southern Argentina.

Changes are underway, and it's not going to be a bell curve like Mitch Battros suggests, it's going to be logarithmic with the rate of change ever increasing. It's time to make a decision, and we're in this thing collectively, it's time to decide to accept change, and start working out how we can work with the Earth, Heavens, God, all that is; how we can fit, flow, be a part of the living everything instead of an infestation of it that must be eliminated.

Ice Age

Been feeling not completely well the last few days, allergy hell and I think I've acquired some virus that appears to be making the rounds.

This morning after about four hours sleep, I had to get up and go to Bellevue to restore a server to service that had crashed. It was our main web server so it couldn't wait.

After I got back I took care of some work and then decided I really needed more sleep and went back to bed. After about an hour in bed I found myself simultaneously cold and hot, shivering and sweating at the same time, and then feel to sleep that way.

I dreamt it was June and we'd suddenly entered an ice age. Around Seattle there were snow drifts 12 or 15 feet high everywhere. You could not get around. I was pretty sure we were just going to freeze to death where we were. 30,000 years from now they'd dig us out of the ice with the bit of apple still in our mouths just like the Woolly Mammoths.

This did not have the characteristics of precognitive dreams that I have, it was jumbled and discontinuous both in space and time like an ordinary dream, so I am not expecting a new ice age to come in June, I think rather it was just a reflection of how I was feeling, my brain trying to make sense of feeling hot and cold at the same time.

Blue Light

Last night I dreamt I was on a high hill with a number of friends. It was late at night, dark, no city lights around. The sky was partially cloudy, small clouds here and there, with clear spaces with stars.

We all have these high power laser pointers. They are like the kind you buy at the store except instead of 1-5 milliwatts, they are watts, enough to see them reflect off of clouds and to some degree to even see the beam in clear air just bouncing off the dust.

People have various colors, red, yellow, green, and I have a blue pointer that is particularly high powered.

When people point their laser pointers at a cloud, you see a colored spot of light on them, like a small colored search light, but when I point my blue pointer at a cloud it does something weird.

At first it makes a point of light like the others except it also lights up the cloud a bit around it as the light is diffused, but if I hold it on, it gets brighter and brighter and a larger area of the cloud lights up as if it was somehow causing the cloud to fluoresce.

That dream transitioned into one where I'm in this large castle like room and dragons are suspended in the air in bubbles, and if I point the laser pointer at the bubble it breaks and frees the dragon.

This transitioned into another similar except the dragon's were replaced with Draculas, well, vampires but I knew they were all Draculas.

Not really sure what these have in common except they both start with "Dr" which reminds me of an instability problem on a Windows system and when something crashes it hangs with "Doctor Watson", so maybe related to that, I don't know, mostly just strange.

China / Prior Life

Last night I dreamt I went to China. It was a very polluted, crowded, industrial area where I went. The air was thick with coal smoke. There was soot everywhere. It was rather like a trip I had to take to Columbus Ohio in the 1980's in that sense.

Houses were crowded together and they had small rooms that were very full. A group of young men wished me to assemble a radio transmitter kit they had obtained from Korea. Given my background in pirate radio in the states this was something I couldn't resist though I did worry a small bit about being put to death or jailed for ever for subversion.

It was a semi-lucid dream. As I was assembling the transmitter, my mind was not clear. I had a hard time reading the instructions (which were in English from poorly translated Korean), the print was small, my eyes were blurry and my mind wasn't clear.

I became aware that the reason I wasn't clear was that I was dreaming, and I had just woken up in the dream world. Just as waking up in the non-dream world is not always smooth, so too it seemed natural for that to be the case in the dream world. As time passed, I did find myself thinking more clearly and was able to put the unit together.

It was a relatively low-powered, maybe a watt, AM transmitter, solid state. It also contained a small receiver as part of the package. It wasn't clear what the intended use of the unit was but these young men did not seem politically active, just having fun like I was back when I ran a pirate station.

The instruction sheets included an advertisement for a tube power amplifier that could be used with the unit that would boost the power to maybe 40 watts.

I also spent some time just touring. The people I stayed with spoke marginal broken English, I speak some marginal broken Chinese. Between our two marginal language skills and a lot of pointing and gesturing we managed functional communications for the most part.

The soot from the smoke-stacks had an odd quality; they would go up into the air and join a cloud and they'd make the edges of the clouds black.

An odd aspect of the dream is that in the dream, I was aware of a previous life, I could remember it clearly, but after waking up, I had no memory of it at all, only a memory of having had a memory in the dream.

Image is by onekell, licensed under a Creative Commons 2.0 Generic license.

Volcano Dreams

Since I was about ten years old I've been having dreams of volcanism and other major geological activities around the Puget Sound region as well as seeing the aftermath of all the changes and what the new landscape looks like. The finished Earth, after all the changes, is consistent in the dreams, but the volcanic activity as well as various social aspects change.

I've seen paths where it's really pretty cool; the volcanoes go off in unpopulated areas, they behave predictably, we get geothermal energy and hot springs for recreation. In one dream there is a big ski resort built around the hot springs so you can go freeze your butt off skiing and then warm up in a hot spring.

And I've seen tremendously destructive paths, where volcanoes are going off everywhere. In those, our own military blocks passage to the south and shoots with machine guns anyone attempting to go south. Volcanoes block the I-90 corridor so escape to the East becomes impossible. They're actually at first to either side of I-90 but the volcanic ash becomes so deep that cars can't get through. In those dreams I inevitably get out and walk when the car can make no further progress and then eruptions of liquid lava happen on either side of me, and I always die in these.

Last night I had one that was between these two extremes. This dream was incredibly persistent. I kept waking up out of it and then going back to sleep and continuing where it left off. This happens to me in dreams exceedingly rarely. In this dream, there was a volcano in the Alki area, south of Alki actually that dumped so much ash that it filled in the sound between Alki and Vashon Island. You could walk to Vashon if you didn't get pummeled to death in another eruption.

There were volcanoes all over the place as well as lots of earth quakes. People were moving out to eastern states to get away from what was happening on the west coast. My wife and children had already left the area for Kentucky. I was going to go there eventually but still had to take care of something here, I don't know if it was business or relatives or what but for some reason I couldn't leave yet.

My house was gone, volcanoes had destroyed it already. I rented an apartment in downtown Seattle, it was a four or five story building that was almost on the waterfront and had a waterfront view but was really cheap because everyone was leaving. I was the only one on the entire fourth floor. That's all I remember, I woke up and stayed awake after that.

Iraqi Girl War Victim - Wrong Path

Iraqi Girl - War Victim

How much is oil worth? This is what we are doing in Iraq. This is the wrong path for our nation and for the world. This is not because of 9/11, this behavior on our part is what motivates people to commit acts like that which happened on 9/11/2001.

The world is changing, it's going to change massively, and in the end, this sort of thing will be gone, hate will be gone, greed will be gone, environmental destruction will be gone, but getting there can take different paths.

One path involves massive human suffering, our own military fighting us, massive volcanism, earthquakes, starvation, people getting cut-off from their families, most of us dying.

The other path involves massive changes, but in ways where they are beneficial rather than harmful to us. Volcanism happens but away from population centers, we know about it in advance, and it happens in a more peaceful manner that we actually benefit from.

I have seen both of these paths in dreams. We do not want to take the ugly hate path people, we really don't. The amount of suffering that will ensue is unimaginable if we continue down this path.

What we put out is what we're going to get back. If we put out hatred, we're going to get hatred back. If we destroy the environment, it's going to destroy us. If we're not loving of the our neighbors, our neighbors will hate us; if we have no respect for other life that we share this planet it with, it will have no respect for us.

If we love each other, our next door neighbor and our fellow human being on the other side of the planet and the other life we share this planet with, if we show respect for this planet that is our home, then it will provide us what we need.

There is no shortage of resources really, there is plenty of oil even right here at home, it's not the cheapest but it's way cheaper than $120/barrel to extract, this whole world situation is a greed and hatred game. This is the wrong path, we have to change.

And this is not a choice that requires we live in squaller and poverty; resources have been generously provided to us; the problem is that people who want to control us only want resources developed that they can readily control.

We have plenty of energy available to us from the sun and the earth, from the wind and the water and it's no longer more expensive than oil or not available in the quantities needed. It is less expensive, these alternate clean renewable sources, than the cheapest of fossil fuels, coal. But even in the realm of fossil fuels, we have a 300-400 year supply of coal, gasoline can be made from coal and if we replaced ALL of the oil we import with coal derived fuel it would only require a 50% increase in coal mining. Of coarse this isn't the right thing to do, we should be going with clean renewables, but the point is we don't have to go to foreign lands and kill and maim children to meet our energy needs, we have been provided with everything we need right here at home.

Mars

I dreamt that Mars had cycles of deep-freeze and thaw periods. The deep-freeze periods last about 4,000 years, the thaw periods about 40,000 times that.

I dreamt that it was in one of the deep-freeze periods and I was there rescuing Martians that appeared very human but were very different.

The Martians had inherently extremely long life spans, and their population was relatively small, however, they had an ability to hibernate but only about 10% of the population would survive the 4,000 year deep-freeze cycle.

After each freeze cycle the planet would warm up, the atmosphere would thicken, liquid water would become available on the surface, and the Martians would rebuild their civilization. They had a method of recording and saving information across the freeze so that from an information and knowledge standpoint they could pick up where they left off instead of having to start over from scratch.

The Martian physiology allowed them to take oxygen in through means other than breathing it though they could breath, but this ability would allow them to function in the absence of atmospheric oxygen.

I was there during a time in the cycle where many who would not survive would die and I was trying to rescue them.

Nuclear Exchange Sort Of

I dreamt that Russia and the United States got into some kind of pissing war over something in the Bearing Straight, or maybe even north of that, maybe over oil, maybe some other resource, maybe just general territorial disputes, I'm not sure. Russia detonated a large nuclear bomb above ground over their territory as a kind of threat, like, see we have this mega-powerful super-H-bomb. The United states then followed suit detonating a big nuclear bomb above Alaska in a remote area. Then the Russians detonated three bombs as if to say "we have a bunch of these back down", then the US detonated a series of them sequentially with the rhythm of the Star Spangled Banner as if to say, "Not only do we have a whole bunch of these but we have very exact control over how or where we detonate them."

Neither country actually nuked the other country except that the detonations were done above ground and near enough to be in visual range so there had to be some radiation effects and fallout. I woke up after that, so I don't know if it would have escalated to actually tossing nukes at each other or not.

Gravity Control - Not Exactly

A while back I had a dream and one of the things in it was this levitating platform that was used to display advertising at night at public gatherings, kind of like the Goodyear blimp only a lot smaller and not a blimp.

Specifically, this thing was a rectangular box, what appeared to be an aluminum chassis, and on the outside an array of LEDs like an ordinary LED billboard type sign; except this one silently levitated up in the air without any obvious means of propulsion.

The devices that allowed it to levitate looked like iron core transformers except instead of one vertical bar, there was a cross, like this:

Yes, I know it is a crude drawing, but hopefully it conveys the idea, you have a cross like this and four windings, and they all go to control electronics. There is a set of high power transistors and some lower power electronics driving them. There are also batteries powering the electronics switching currents through the various coils, the batteries looked like "D" NiMH batteries, the transistors normal TO3 case, nothing really exotic.

I can't see all the details, but the way I saw this functioning in the dream, it's related to Boyd Bushman's, allegedly a senior scientist at Lockheed Martin (I have no way of verifying this), experiment where he dropped opposing magnets bolted together and non-magnetized material of same weight and proportion off of Lockheed Martins' leaning tower of Pizza, building #500, and the magnetized version always took longer to hit the ground.

He theorized that the magnetic plane created slowed it down somewhat but in the video I saw he did not elaborate beyond that. I can see how that could happen, it's interacting magnetically with the orbits of electrons in surrounding materials, there is inertia, so it's going to resist. This is true even in free space because you still have virtual particles to interact with.

If I'm not clear, let me try to make it simpler; a magnetic field affects charged particles, and since every action creates an equal and opposite reaction, that's going to exert a force back onto the field and to the body from which it emanates. If the field is trying to move; that's going to create a force opposing that movement, thus slowing the fall of the magnets. By making them oppose, the field lines go out instead of looping back tightly thus interacting with more particles.

This has four sections, if some of the laminate pieces in each section aren't contiguous, then you could create a kind of magnetic corkscrew by sequentially activating them although I'm not sure. I'm thinking the opposite coils are activated simultaneously. It seemed clear in the dream but it's one of those things where you can feel it slipping away as you wake up and I did my best to remember long enough to write it down but it went away.

So instead of a stationary plane you create kind of a magnetic corkscrew to pull itself through the aether. I'm just relating this hoping it might make sense to someone else or maybe trigger an idea or memory.

The Economy - It Ain't All Bad

This really isn't a dream and it's only a vision in terms of a possibility that I see, nothing I've seen in some sort of mystical vision, just something I see is a potential knowing where we are at in terms of resources and technology. We could go here if we can overcome the human drive to kill each other and generally act stupidly.

Our economy has been seriously damaged seven years of military adventurism. Halliburton has been allowed to raid the national treasury then exit stage right to the Dubai, UAE.

We keep hearing about peak oil, the housing market bubble bursting, the declining value of the dollar, bank failures, but there are some positives that we don't hear much about, and even some silver linings to the clouds we do hear about.

I believe we are in for some tough times but that our economy, the world wide economy, actually is poised for golden times, if, and only if, we can cut-off the military industrial complex; or perhaps more properly, the military industrial banking government complex. We have to stop war.

Now, why in the face of all of this would I make a statement like this? Let's look at some of the causes and effects. The value of the dollar; in an economic system you have a certain amount of production of goods and services, you have a certain amount of money circulating. If the amount of goods and services decreases relative to the amount of money circulating, that money becomes worth less because it represents less goods and services per monetary unit.

The production of goods and services is dependent upon labor, energy, and raw materials. We spent 3.5 trillion dollars on the war in Iraq, that's money that went into circulation with zero corresponding goods and services being produced. We sent people and goods and services to Iraq, reducing the existing pool of goods and services and reducing the labor to produce them.

Before we invaded Iraq, oil production was 2.5 million barrels per day. It decreased to almost zero immediately after invasion but has slowly rebounded to a current production of around 1.5 million barrels per day. In addition, the prosecution of the war has wasted tremendous amounts of energy, so in addition to cutting production by 1 million barrels per day (more than that early on), we're also wasting tremendous amounts of energy.

So we've taken away from energy and labor available to produce goods and services while at the same time we've dumped trillions into the economy; inflation is the inevitable result of this. This isn't entirely bad however, and here is why.

The high cost of oil, over $100/barrel, has spurred the development of alternative energy sources. In a decade or so we've gone from obtaining less than 1% of our energy in the United States, to over 3% from renewables, and the growth rate of both solar and wind installations has been going upwards on a logarithmic curve and that's energy that will never run out. It's also energy that has proven to be cheap; wind is now below the cost of coal which previously was the least expensive source of electricity.

Over the years our manufacturing sector has suffered to a large degree because foreign countries have artificially kept the value of their currency low. In other words; we see a falling dollar here now and panic; but China has intentionally kept the value of the Yuan low; it made their products cheap to foreign markets strengthening their manufacturing sector. The dollar has been the currency of international trade for many years, and that has artificially strengthened it, which further put us at a disadvantage when it comes to selling our products on the world market.

The high value of the dollar made foreign labor cheap; first our manufacturing sector, and then much of our service industries outsourced labor requirements to foreign countries to lower their operating costs. If you're a customer of a major telephone company, cable company, bank, ISP, etc, you've probably experienced the joys of talking to a representative with a thick Indian accent reading scripts. The low value of the dollar has forced some of these companies to re-think outsourcing as that foreign labor becomes more expensive.

We have been importing a large percentage of our energy needs when we have all the resources we need to be a net energy exporter right here at home. The reason we import most of our oil is not because we've used up half of our domestic resources as suggested by the Hubert peak theory; it's because oil here costs $10-$14 to pump out of small fields here; and you can poke a hole in the ground and it squirts out in the middle east.

The oil that we tapped here first was sweet light crude. For those not familiar with the terminology, sweet crude oil is crude oil with low sulfur content. Light crude is crude oil with a high percentage of lighter components, low viscosity, small molecular size hydrocarbons.

The majority of natural crude that is near the surface is not of the sweet light variety because being close to the surface, the lighter elements were able to evaporate leaving only the heavier more viscous components. Oil near the surface has passed through more of the crust and picked up more sulfur.

But sweet light crude is the easiest to deal with because it already contains a mix of the most commercially valuable molecules, those that become gasoline and diesel oil, and without the need to remove sulfur which otherwise causes pollution, sulfur oxides mix with water vapor in the atmosphere to create sulfurous and sulfuric acid which rains out in acid rain, destroying everything from buildings to aquatic life.

So the refineries built int he United States were built to deal with sweet light crude, they lack the cracking and reforming capacity to break larger molecules into more useful sized molecules, and they lack the necessary capacity for the removal of sulfur.

A weak dollar means it takes a lot of dollars to buy a barrel of foreign oil, that's why oil is now over $100 per barrel. This makes production of domestic oil resources look a lot more attractive. The problem is that oil companies aren't going to be willing to invest in the necessary refinery capabilities unless they can be reasonably sure that the price is going to remain high. But if it does and they become convinced, then we'll see domestic resources developed.

We have as much heavy sour crude in Southern California as the entire country of Venezuela. So why then is Venezuela able to sell Citgo gasoline at competitive rates here in the United States? They have the refinery capacity to deal with the huge heavy sour crude reserves they possess.

So the low value of the dollar is increasing the cost of imports, encouraging the production and consumption of domestic goods and services while discouraging the consumption of imported goods and services. The lower value of the dollar is making our goods and services more economically attractive to foreign consumers increasing exports. Both factors create jobs here at home.

The Fed keeps lowering interest rates; but I think what we really need to do is to encourage changes that increase our efficiency; that increase the amount of goods and services we can produce and reduce the energy we consume that comes from non-renewable sources or at least sources which aren't sustainable over the long term.

Most of our electricity is generated by Coal and Nuclear, and that capacity can't be readily throttled. The thermal mass of a combustion bed on a coal fired plant, and the time it takes to bring a nuclear chain reaction back up make it impractical to throttle these types of plants up and down every night and the result is a lot of wasted capacity. Enough capacity in fact to replace ALL of the oil used for our daily commute. About 58% of the oil we consume is used for this commute. We import about 66% of the oil consumed, so if we could simply use this wasted energy for our commute, we could eliminate about 85% of our oil imports!

So how can we do this? A massive switch to plug-in hybrids and all electric vehicles could make this possible. These new cars will need to be manufactured, that means jobs.

Other things we can do, we can take electricity during times of surplus production and make butynol, a 4-carbon alcohol that can be burned in unmodified gasoline engines, which can then be used to replace gasoline. There are several methods of doing this; one is to use a kind of reverse fuel cell device that takes water, carbon dioxide, and electricity to create butynol; the carbon dioxide can come from coal plants that are presently just releasing in into the atmosphere. Granted; it will still be released when the butynol is burned, but, this will be carbon dioxide released instead of that which would have been released by gasoline burning instead of in addition to it as is currently the case, so we'd be cutting the net amount of carbon dioxide produced by that produced by the entire daily commute, this would be huge. I mentioned there were several methods; carbon dioxide can also be electrolyzed, like water and separated into carbon-monoxide and oxygen. The carbon-monoxide can then be added to steam (forming what is known as process gas) and in the presence of catalytic reformers made into many different hydrocarbon products, including butynol.

After coal, and nuclear, the next largest source of electricity is natural gas. Natural gas plants, unlike coal and nuclear, are throttled down at night so they don't just produce energy that is wasted. However; the peak electrical load on the grid occurs during the daytime when solar irradiance is also at a peak. New solar thermal technology using inexpensive plastic Fresnel lenses instead of expensive parabolic mirrors to concentrate solar energy make solar power economically competitive. If these plants replaced electricity currently being produced by natural gas, that natural gas could be converted to liquid fuels via the Fischer-Troppe process and replace oil distillates powering our commute. Diesel-like fuels are actually easiest to produce this way so this might be a way to replace oil used for non-commute purposes such as trucking and home heating.

North America is the only continent in the world where the railroad lines haven't been electrified to a large degree. This is something we should do because it would allow our trains to be powered by whatever energy source is the least expensive at the time. Right now it's diesel or stand-still. With our trucks powered by diesel, our trains powered by diesel, and our planes powered by diesel; if we don't have diesel we all starve, and it's not a clean energy source. Burning diesel produces carcinogenic soot in addition to carbon dioxide.

We need to invest more heavily in new technology, not only to meet our own energy needs but also to develop products for export. A new type of fusion reactor called a Bussard Polywell fusion reactor is looking very promising. It might be contributing to our energy needs in just a few years or, some unsolvable problem might prevent it from doing so. So there is this hope, but the egg isn't hatched yet; however, it's looking really promising. Nuclear energy is really what we need long term; and fusion is preferable, it's cleaner and safer than fission. But fission can be made much cleaner and safer and more efficient than it presently is and if properly developed can positively contribute towards our energy needs.

If the Bussard reactor doesn't fly; there are many other approaches to fusion that might. The main pursuit in the fusion realm right now is Tokamak based fusion. This is fusion based upon the magnetic confinement of extremely hot and unstable plasma. We are now at a point where we know, at a large enough scale this is absolutely doable, but the economics of doing so are really poor because the capital investment required to build one of these machines is huge. Now presently that's because many components need to be custom designed, engineered, and fabricated, and even the machining tools necessary to fabricate the parts need to be custom made; so if a design is proven, then in time the costs will come down, but still it's going to not be nearly as cheap as other potential candidates, particularly the Bussard reactor, it's always going to be too large and heavy for many applications. You're never going to see a Tokamak based Mr. Fusion in your DeLorean. You won't even see a Bussard reactor based DeLorean, although a Bussard reactor might well power large trucks, trains, aircraft, spacecraft, and be the basis for the energy necessary to terraform new worlds and make them habitable.

We should be pursuing each of these potentially viable fusion capabilities as well as generation IV fast-flux fission reactor technology at the highest level practical. The payoffs are just too large not go make the absolute best effort we can; and yet, the amount of money we are devoting to this research is almost zero. The biggest fusion project, our contribution to ITER, only amounts to what we spend on two days of oil imports over a 25 year period. For something that could radically improve the human condition across the entire planet as well as greatly reduce environment damage, pursuing this at such as low rate is a crime.

But it's also a crime that we're dumping the lions share of our tiny fusion research budget into what is the least economically viable fusion possibility. It is scientifically viable, but we need something scientifically AND economically viable. The Bussard reactor I feel is presently the best candidate; but there are also other derivatives of the Farnsworth Fusor that deserve research, there are Z-pinch schemes worthy of research, there are levitated dipole schemes, and there are other exotic methods such as sonic bubble fusion, cold fusion (and this IS a real phenomena even though it's been poorly reproduced BUT it's probably not ever going to scale to commercial power production levels, but it MIGHT be a viable Mr. Fusion for your DeLorean).

Our economy is salvageable; we have to first stop wasting money on war. Then we need to solve our energy problem and that is completely 100% doable and we have to do it in a way that is extremely rapid; that will put a lot of people back to work. If we do it with sufficient robustness and efficiency; we can become a net energy producer.

On the subject of home heating; those giant cooling towers you see next to nuclear reactors? Those should be replaced with pipes going to heating homes and offices and providing process heat for industry. They do it in Sweden, and if a country that produced the Kia can do it, then we sure can.

So do we choose to have our economy tank? Or do we choose to return this country to greatness? One that is self-sufficient and one that respects the sovereignty of foreign nations, places a value on life, human and otherwise, and can sustain that greatness?

Do you know what we have the potential to do? There are 10,000 to 20,000 minor planets in the Oort cloud, these are planets in deep freeze, turning them into habitable real estate involves primarily the input of energy. Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe and it is vastly abundant in our own solar system, Jupiter, Neptune, Saturn, and Uranus being made primarily of the stuff. That could provide the energy needed to light up, warm up, and make habitable these minor worlds for trillions of years. These things are available to us if we simply choose not to destroy ourselves and our existing habitat and pursue our human potential.

Every Dream

I don't record every dream I have here and I probably should because there might information in the pattern that would be apparent if they all come together; and I also dream things of the future but don't record them, and then of course when they happen I remember them but it would seem not much point to post then since it's already happened and thus doesn't help anyone.

Even the non-predictive dreams probably have some interesting metaphors. For example, I had one the other day in which I was in this island cove and I knew a tsunami was coming. It was a warm summer day; tropical setting, and I was running around trying to tell everyone and pretty much being ignored. I climbed a top of this carport and was met by this giant lizard or dinosaur, I don't know exactly it looked big enough to be a dinosaur with a resemblance to T-rex but not that big, more Komodo Dragon sized, still anything big enough to make it clear that I'm not on the food chain is too big.

Well, got to thinking about that, I'm trying to warn people, but what threatens me? This lizard thing? Well, then I got to thinking, maybe lizard brain that primitive part of the brain, maybe that's the threat to me.

Can't really figure out how that relates to the threat to everyone else, the tsunami though. Or maybe it's just the fact that I see that while this other threat threatens to eat me.

Portal

I dreamt we were driving home but a bit lost and we went down this hill and at the bottom of this hill was this huge very pristine beach. I didn't know where we were but I knew it wasn't anywhere near home. It appeared to be a salt water beach but we were headed east and you have to go west to get to salt water beaches here. The beach was very clean, and most of the beaches here are covered with aquatic plant material and algae, and other debris.

I said to Tina, "We're not anywhere near where we live. I wish we lived some place like this." But still I don't know where we are, none of the streets are familiar. The road we headed down towards the beach initially seemed like 95th Street NE in Seattle was you head towards Sand Point, but there were no cross streets or houses, just forest. There were mountains kind of to the sides also.

I saw one other person at the beach and he had an old van. We followed him to his house which was up on a hill in the woods. It had a narrow driveway leading up. He lived there with his wife and there was another man that I think was his brother or something. It was more like a cabin, an old run down cabin, than a house. Strangely though, out in the middle of nowhere, they somehow had electricity.

We went into the house and I was talking to the man's wife and brother. They said we were in Greenland, that every three or four years a portal opens up between there and where we lived. They said we would be stuck there for three or four years until the portal opens up again. It wasn't like the real Greenland, that is, it wasn't covered in ice, it was really green. It was also heavily forested except for the beach.

I decided I didn't want to stay, I wanted to go back the way we came, follow the road, hope that it would come to something resembling civilization somewhere, but we found out the man we followed up, while we were in talking to his brother and sister, he had removed some parts from our car rendering it inoperable.

Strangely, I didn't get real angry about it, I did say that we'd really like to have our car parts back and he said he would like to give them to us but he couldn't because he traded them for some things. After some discussion he finally allowed us to see what the things he traded them for were. He had traded them for a bunch of those three plug to one plug AC outlet adapters. He didn't actually use them, he collected them for some reason.

I was woken up out of the dream at that point. It's odd, because it didn't have a nightmarish feel to it at all, more like some sort of fantastic and strange adventure.

Spirit Guide

I had a dream that is unique for me in that it is the first dream that I've ever had that involved an obvious spirit guide.

In this dream, I was downtown except downtown wasn't anything like downtown Seattle, it had these tunnels that connected various places that had all sorts of retail space, kind of like underground Rainier Tower except larger with open entrances at either end and they were almost as numerous as surface streets.

Some of these went down quite far and there were strange more esoteric shops and things at the lower levels. I was just kind of exploring these things when I met someone that told me where some caves where and that I should go into them.

I went there and the caves were low maybe two and a half feet high. You couldn't go in standing up, the only way was to go on your belly. He gave me this mushroom to put in my mouth but not eat. No it wasn't a magic mushroom in the hallucinogenic sense. It was odd though, it had a structure much like a feather duster, a marine filter feeder animal.

I backed into this cave feet first because I feared getting trapped. I had no light with me. The surface was covered with moss and fungus and other things, and I just had a sense of it being totally alive and I was surrounded by life and part of it.

Other than that feeling I came out of it without anything eventful happening, it seemed to be directed at just instilling an awareness of life in everything and my connection to it.

Disorganized Dreams

Recently, my dreams have been chaotic and disorganized to the point where it's been difficult to record and relate anything meaningful.

One theme that has been recurring is themes involving the minor planets and humans establishing a presence on some of them. I am having a hard time though understanding how it could be possible physically, one problem I see is that if you warm one of these icy world enough for us to exist on them, the weaker gravity probably would not hold onto atmosphere, especially the hydrogen in water vapor that split because of UV light or whatever.

Listing to Bush talk it's hard to believe we can possibly have any future. Trying to suggest that invading Iraq made America safer; invading Iraq bankrupt America leaving us totally open to attack or manipulation to countries with growing economies like China, Russia, and India. We can no longer compete with them economically for resources. There was nothing gained from this attack except by rich military industrialists.

We need to free ourselves from oil as an energy source anyway. Environmental issues aside, it is inadequate to meet human needs, free humans from poverty and hunger, and allow us to explore space. We have all the resources we need to do these things, there is no good reason to be killing and maiming people over oil.

Other Earth's

I keep having these dreams where I go to another planet in our solar system that we are terraforming. The thing that has been weird is that the planets are small, perhaps the size of our moon or even smaller; they have some water but are relatively dry. They aren't Mars, they're farther out.

Until recently, this seemed impossible, but now I read that there are hundreds and perhaps thousands of planets in our solar system, and they may extend out as far as half-way to the next star.

These planets would be too cold for life as we know it. But, what if we could introduce the necessary energy to warm them? Hydrogen fusion, the same thing that drives the stars could make this possible, and recent developments may make that a reality.

While Tokamak reactors get most of the attention, there have been a handful of alternative designs that scientists have working on quietly, and one of them, the Bussard Polywell reactor, is looking very promising. I won't go into the details here, if you want to know more specifics, see my Science and Technology blog.

The Bussard Polywell reactor is small, (12 feet across would be a big one), cheap (about $12 million to build), fuel is cheap and abundant, aneutronic fuels can be used generating no radioactive waste and not requiring radioactive fuel. The Polywell reactor has zero potential for melt-down or dispersing radioactive elements if run on aneutronic fuel.

Because the fuels are readily available, because the unit is small enough that it could be launches into space, and because it's cheap, these could be the basis for thawing frozen worlds in the Ort cloud and making them habitable.

Dead Dog Dream

Tonight I dreamt that a dog I had several years ago came and visited me in a dream. Mac, a Weimaraner we had, died from a stroke a number of years ago.

I was on this large grassy hill, very quiet, and he came along, and I knew he was dead, and he seemed to know that but it was ok. He came and greeted me.

He had another dog with him, a bulldog. The bulldog wasn't trusting of me, if I tried to pet him he'd growl, but if I put my hand down he'd come up and lick it. It's like someone had wacked him on the head on a regular basis in the past.

I've been having a lot of dreams regarding death and dead people lately. I'm not sure if it's got to do with close relatives who aren't in good health, or the fact that life seems like such a struggle right now. I don't see my own demise in these dreams but I'm frequently interfacing with dead people so not sure what to make of it.

Toxic Plane

I had a nightmare the other night involving an aircraft.

A Boeing 747 had left a trail of death at every airport it stopped at. It had left Moscow (Russia) and 79 people at the airport died a mysterious death. Then it went to Paris, France, and 30-some odd people died there, again of causes unknown, then it stopped at another airport, and I can't remember which one this was, and 17 people departed after it left.

Nobody made the connect to this airplane causing death until it had gone to three separate airports and left at trail of death at each, and still they didn't know the cause. They did not know if they were dealing with a biological, chemical, or radiological element, nor did they know if it was intentional or a terrorism act.

In the dream it was supposed to come to Sea-Tac airport (between Seattle and Tacoma Washington, USA) next, I live north of Seattle, so this had me concerned.

I didn't know how authorities would handle it since the cause of death was still unknown, whether it was deliberate or not was still unknown. And now it hadn't arrived at Sea-Tac yet even though it should have it was late and nobody knows where it is yet so there is a lot of concern.

I don't know, because this was never resolved in the dream, but I do have a sense that it was something toxic, not biological or radiological, nor intentional, that leaked in the cargo area and apparently was an agent not readily detected.

I'm afraid I have no time frame for this dream.

Space, Nasa, Repeatitive Dreams

In general, I can tell dreams that are predictive in that they go like a slice out of time and are in fact exactly that as I will live out the sequence later. They are linear without skipping from one time or place to another.

Ordinary dreams are not like that, they skip from one location or time to another, frame of reference sometimes changes from first party to third party or vice versa, in general, they are not coherent.

I have some dream themes that occur over and over again, and it is my view that such dreams are something that is subconscious trying to surface and get conscious attention. One such dream that I have involves being in the NASA space program and going to planets that, in the dreams, are part of our solar system, but in reality not known to exist. These are not the sort of dreams that tend to be predictive, they are not fully coherent; but they are extraordinarily focused and repetitive.

The planets involved in these dreams are farther from the Sun than Earth and really should not be receiving enough sunlight to be warm enough for humans, yet, in the dreams I go there and while I find it cold; not so cold that survival is difficult. Also, these planets are inherently dry but not to the point where agriculture is impossible.

The technology to go there is terribly conventional, rockets, and the re-entry on Earth, unpleasant, it's a part of the trip I dread, and in the dreams, I've done it many times before.

The air on these planets, it's thin, but breathable. The size of the planet, about that of our moon, yet the gravity does not feel significantly less than Earth-like.

Native life forms on these planets, not visible; yet, we can grow things there and survive there ourselves. An atmosphere containing enough oxygen to be breathable but not entirely comfortable exists. We can survive without supplementary oxygen but it's not comfortable, like being at a high altitude to which one is unaccustomed.

When I go to these planets, my role there isn't merely scientific, it is one of opening new frontiers for man, planting crops, making the planet livable for humans.

These dreams are recent; I've had an interest in space for as long as I can remember but never sufficient interest to directly attempt to involve myself in a space program, I wouldn't have the level of fitness at this point for it to be viable anyway; and during my waking hours it's not something I even generally contemplate let alone have a strong desire to pursue.

So I am curious why these dreams keep coming up, if they're metaphoric for something I'm just not getting, what is it that wants attention?

There are certainly aspects that parallel a lot of my thoughts and aspirations. I know that human beings are nowhere close to our potential. I know there are technologies that, if we cooperated as a race, could enable us to live in a virtual paradise instead of the near hell that much of the planet is for much of the human race, and it frustrates me to no end that our leaders don't take us down a better path.

But the dreams don't involve these technologies, nor do the planets they do involve exist, at least to the best of my knowledge, so they mostly just puzzle me. I have the sense they are important though, in some way that I can't figure out.

Strange Dreams and a Stranger Universe

I've related dreams set in the future which I see a number of phenomena. Before big Earth changes begin, that is before being geological changes, I see strange atmospheric phenomena. Real common are dreams in which I see something that perhaps I could best describe as a false sunrise. A while back I posted a picture I created in Paintshop to illustrate what I see. It's something like a cross between a super-intense Aurora and a diffuse sunrise, happening 1-2 hours before the actual real sunrise. While Aurora's are usually dominated by green light, this phenomena in the dreams is dominated more by red.

The other phenomena I've only seen rarely in dreams but it consists of a type of mirage in which the horizon appears to curve upwards giving the impression of being in a big bowl. These type of mirages do occur and for example, Admiral Perry was convinced that there existed a continent in the Arctic ocean because of this type of mirage, however, nothing I've seen documented comes anywhere near to approaching the severity of the mirages I see in the dreams.

I am still puzzled by what could cause such extreme visual phenomena, and if it is real, that is, I really am seeing something from the future, and the dreams do have that quality; the moment out of time contiguous type quality that my dreams that are predictive have, or not. They do repeat.

Oddly, tonight I ran across a phenomena I had not heard of earlier in which high energy cosmic rays blasts were hitting the northern hemisphere, and particularly the arctic, and seemed to be rather focused, and this phenomena was first noticed in the late 80's, but seems to have peaked in 2005, and nothing much can be found on it sense.

Observers in the Arctic noted that the horizon lifted up as if it had been grabbed by the hand of God and pulled up. So is there something about intense cosmic ray bombardment that can suddenly alter the refractive index of the atmosphere sufficiently to cause such a visual phenomena?

I can imagine a situation in which, particularly in the arctic region where the air is cold to begin with, you dump a lot of energy into it, and all of the sudden the air heats up, but particularly if the energy came from space and was in a spectrum to which the atmosphere was not very transparent, then it could cause heating of upper layers and not lower layers and thus an temperature inversion of this sort.

The cosmic rays, as they described them, and I have some doubts as to whether or not they really were cosmic, seemed to be quite focused. I can't really imagine any distant source of such high energy particles being that precisely focused. This was most intense during the summer of 2004, and the Sun was still quite active at that time. I am thinking perhaps these really weren't cosmic rays but particles from a solar mass ejection event steered and focused by the Earth's magnetosphere.

At any rate if these particle blasts, whatever their origin could have optical effects like this; then perhaps it is an extreme solar event of some sort that explains what I see in these dreams. The last solar maximum was the most intense on record, but NASA is predicting an even more intense cycle this next cycle which peaks in 2011-2012. However, the much delayed onset of cycle 24 suggests the opposite, that this cycle may be weaker than the last.
