However, your review has kind of puzzled me. During the show, the radio station does come across the sound system, but the band continues the set. It ends up being about an hour or longer, ten songs I believe. And they do play "Forever" and a Move song, "California Man". I thought that Wizzard only played in Toronto one night...is this the same show you were at or could there have been 2 (or more) shows there? >It irks me tho when Carl says he felt out of place as the Move were a pop >band touring with heavies like Hendrix, Cream and the Floyd. I thought "Something Else From The Move" was >indeed live, at the Marquee Club....? Okay, the performance was recorded live on tape, but the vocal portion of the tape was for some reason heavily distorted to the point of being unlistenable. Some time later, Carl, Roy, Trevor and Chris were brought back into the Marquee in the afternoon, and the vocals were re-recorded on top of the live instrumental performances (hey, a certain famous live James Brown album had canned audience applause and is still considered a classic today so don't pout if the Move's performances on this record weren't totally live, it IS a great recording!). I wish there were ex-MOVE members playing about while I am there. It would be killer to see Roy. Oh well I'm happy to see Jeff anyway. Did the MOVE ever play Royal Albert Hall?? ********** Subject: Did The Idle Race get much play in the US? Radio 1 respected them i believe. How they never became a major success seems a shame because they made great records. Moby Grape were just the same for bad luck too! 2 great bands that never got credit the credit they were due. ********** Subject: Re: Did The Idle Race get much play in the US? Date: Sat, 16 Nov 2002 23:26:50 -0800 From: David Gofstein Does anyone know of a site with a good Roy Wood and/or Wizzard CD rundown? I'm looking for a consumer guide type thing. You see, I've recently started listening to my old Roy Wood LPs (after landing on this list actually) and figured I should get some CDs of em after all this time. Well, I've picked up two off of eBay (Cheap too!) and I've been a bit let down. The two in question have been "Roy Wood and Wizzard Archive Series" on Rialto and "The Best of and the Rest Of" on Action Replay. No "See My Baby Jive", "Ball Park Incident" or even "I Wish It Could..."!! What's the deal? Any help would be appreciated. Thanx in advance, dave gofstein (in Arizona where I can promise you none of the goodies discussed on this list has EVER been played on the radio!!) ********** Subject: Re: Roy CD question? Date: Sun, 17 Nov 2002 02:22:55 -0800 From: kakman Sheesh, there's not a lot of current stuff out there; most have been deleted already, best to troll ebay and other auctions, and online and close to home collectors' record and CD shoppes. Reccomended titles: EMI 1999 release of "Wizzard's Brew" Edsel release of "Introducing Eddy And The Falcons","Something Else Plus..."(live Move at The Marquee with additional tracks) Live At The BBC (the Move) Repertoire release of "Exotic Mixture" (solo and Wizzard tracks) For "Boulders" and "Mustard", although there are Japanese versions about, the quality ain't there. If you have CD-burning capability on your box, try to find clean vinyl copies of these two LPs (Mustard is real tough, but it is amazing how many mint unopened copies of U.S. United Artist version of "Boulders" with shrink wrap and factory label sticker are still out there!) and get the software and hookup cables to copy tracks from LP onto CD-R or your hard drive. It's a bother but it is worth it. I am currently hunting down an affordable but quality turntable and amplifier/receiver to do the very same; got a mint unopened copy of "All This And World War II" featuring several tracks by Roy and one medley by Jeff. I want a CD-R copy of this real bad since this apparently will never be released on CD or Super DVD audio or any other commercial format anytime in near future. Must be that ol' legal obstacle they call clearances. We do know in near future (2003 and 2004 and beyond) there will be remastered re-issues of Boulders, some Wizzard and Roy sides and Move albums and sides, so hang in there. To my ears, the sound quality is atrocious. There are a couple of really good Wizzard comps...I'll have to see what's currently available before making recommendations. But do get the "Exotic Mixture" 2CD if you're a fan of Roy's non-Wizzard material. I was listening to "Music To Commit Suicide By" the other day and just marveling at how complex and intricate the arrangement is. Not to mention the musicianship. Roy's so talented he's scary. ********** Subject: Roy Wood/SAS Band Date: Tue, 12 Nov 2002 12:09:15 -0800 From: Lynn Hoskins Peter Grenville posted an item to the ELO-Showdown list that I think a lot of Move List members may not know about. A couple years ago, the SAS Band released a CD and video called The Show that features Roy Wood performing California Man. I'll let Peter's post fill in the details. But, I wanted to add that I bought both the CD and video and Roy's performance is excellent. ---- The SAS Band were formed by Spike Edney, who played keyboards on all Queen's later shows. There's a nice write up on the web-site (http://www.sasband.com) of the history of the band, which has core members, but survives mainly by playing live gigs with assorted celebrities as guests. If I remember rightly, I think this show was something to do with the premier of the Queen Musical in London, "We Will Rock You". Haven't got it myself, but if anyone does, let me know if it's any good! It can be ordered on the website for £14. Track listing below - pretty eclectic line-up, I think you'll agree!! SAS BAND - THE SHOW Recorded Live Feb 19th, 2000 at Shepherds Bush Empire 1. Blinded by the light | Chris Thompson 2. Big area | Mark Shaw 3. All I need is a miracle | Paul Young 4. Hopefully there will be a second legit BBC sessions CD that will in clude these tracks. Wizzards, Tyler ********** Subject: Super Active Wizzo! Date: Sat, 16 Nov 2002 23:26:39 -0800 From: merrlynne Hi Guys and Gals, I also have the Super Active Wizzo LP and it takes some getting in to at first, as it's very experimental and progressive. But if you give it a few listens you'll realise what an amazing body of work this Album is! I simply love it now, I enjoy a listening challenge! I got Super Active Wizzo at a Record Fair in the mid nineties, you'll never guess who was selling it?! (along with other Roy and Move LP's), it was the one and only Malcolm Allured of Showaddywaddy Fame! I got most of my Roy and Move Vinyl from him, as I had only been collecting Roy and Move for a couple of Years. I was really chuffed to meet Malcolm and have the privilege to own some of his Vinyl! I also have Roy's On The Road Again LP, which is Autographed by Roy! This is a great Album! I bought this gem from a great Friend of mine. I have now transferred these 2 LP's to CD, so I play them a lot more these Days. I have only played the Vinyl a couple times, as I had put them on Cassette when I first had them. Anyway, if anyone out there does'nt have these 2 great LP's, then I seriously suggest you try to find a Copy and give your Ear's a wonderful and exciting listening treat!! Falling Forever! Shaz-am!! The Shazam website has a whole bunch of sound clips. Just go to http://www.theshazam.com and click on "Sounds." Quite a few of their songs are very "Move" sounding. I'm imagining Carl at one of their shows in London liking them SO much that he decided right then and there that he wanted to do some songs with them. Just my opinion, but I'd start with "Godspeed The Shazam" and then if you like what you hear, get their other albums, including the new one. There are a lot of songs on the new album that are very heavy, a la Brum. ********** Subject: Re: The Shazam Date: Sat, 16 Nov 2002 11:51:40 -0800 From: "Rob Caiger" The Shazam have UK distribution via Pinnacle and CD's should be available at all leading stores.
