Wizzard at their great over the top best. This lp makes Looking On sound like a soft rock lp. Must be one of the most heavy rock albums of all time. Must have scared the pants of the people who only listened to the A sides of the singles. A must when the remaster is out. ********** Subject: Wizzard Brew remaster Date: Wed, 5 Feb 2003 16:20:55 -0800 From: Lynn Hoskins Andy wrote: >A must when the remaster is out. This has been mentioned before, but it's certainly fun to mention again... All the master tapes for Wizzard Brew have been found, PLUS all the session multitracks. The remaster is planned for 2003 (no specific month as of yet) and there will be bonus material. I'm gonna have to get a second job to pay for all the stuff that's coming out this year... yikes. ********** Subject: Re: Wizzard Brew remaster Date: Wed, 5 Feb 2003 22:30:15 -0800 From: "Andrew Footman" Hi Lynn, Yes we will all have empty wallets over the next year or so. But it will be worth it. The Jet and Warner Bros albums have never been released on any format including the original records to give them justice. It is a sad fact that 2 of Roy's albums have never been issued properly to a mass market. Super Active Wizzo never got past the demo pressings in the States. And i don't think (We're) On The Road Again LP never even got to that in the UK. Now thanks to people like Rob Caiger and yourself this will be put right. It is sad to think it's taken over 20 years to right this wrong. Maybe in hindsight, Roy should have stayed on the Harvest record label. They always seemed to released the wacky stuff. Bakerloo, Quatermass, Sid Barrett, Battered Ornaments etc. They never used to say "Oh i cannot hear a single on this Roy. Come back when you have another See My Baby Jive. Meanwhile we will put it on this self to gather dust". God ain't things got better. We now have the Pop Stars yippee! With wonderful covers of covers of bloody covers! And some daft buggers buy them! Boy i hope Rob never remasters them! ********** Subject: Re: Wizzard Brew remaster Date: Thu, 6 Feb 2003 09:05:14 -0800 From: Richard Messum Lynn: >I'm gonna have to get a second job to pay for all the stuff that's >coming out this year... yikes. There's a guy on ebay who's selling 2 Move import LPs called "Family Man" - it's Harvest 4035 which, as we all know, is the catalog# for California Man! I wouldn't buy from this guy on a bet - look at his other listings and wonder...how can he tell Rod Stewart's "An Old Raincoat..." is a Vertigo swirl label if its sealed!?!? (besides which, UK LPs weren't usually sealed in them days...) ********** Subject: Re: "Family Man" Date: Wed, 5 Feb 2003 01:04:55 -0800 From: "Andrew Footman" Hi Marc, I saw that too. There is a other Joker on there selling sealed UK copies of the LP'S MFTC, C'MAN and Wizzards Wizzard Brew and See My Baby Jive. Check the neg's on that one on the feedback. One guy's lp was listed has M-/M- ,he got VG /G. To say he was unhappy would be a understatement. One con is to reseal the lp it fools the buyer at first but not when it is opened. I have said before you can get some great deals on Ebay but never deal with anybody with a lot of negs. Never pay silly money you will see it again, and get it at the price you want. The Movements set is falling in price on Ebay every time i see it. You will pick it up cheap soon, but it is awful. ********** Subject: Re: "Family Man" Date: Wed, 5 Feb 2003 16:18:10 -0800 From: Marc Miller Andy - I've also found it wise not to buy sealed copies of old records. Chances of it being re-sealed are much too great! ********** Subject: Re: "Family Man" Date: Thu, 6 Feb 2003 02:26:28 -0800 From: Larry Harris Here's another eBay entry. I copied and pasted... Roy Wood - The genius behind such classic British bands as Electric Light Orchestra,The Move,Roy Wood's Wizzard,Eddie and the Cruisers and song writer to Elvis Presley. When it was finally time to concentrate his efforts on fulfilling his ambitions of a lifetime made two solo albums, Boulders (1973) and Mustard (1975) in which he allowed the world to hear his ability to write hit singles almost at will. 1) Eddie & The Cruisers??? I think that's a movie from about 1985. As we here know, Roy's band Wizzard portrayed a FICTIONAL band called Eddy & The Falcons. 2) Actually Roy wanted Elvis to use some of his songs, but Elvis showed little interest. 3) Boulders and Mustard have wonderful, genius songs of course, but neither yielded any hits. "When Grandma Plays The Banjo" got some attention, but barely scratched the Top 40. Sorry if I'm nit-picking here. I just wish the person had done a bit more homework on Roy. Reason is, when others read the info, they might remain in the dark about the facts. ********** Subject: Re: "Family Man" Date: Thu, 6 Feb 2003 09:03:17 -0800 From: "Tyler C.Sherman" Larry, Does this individual have an email address listed? Perhaps he would change the ad if someone, such as yourself, gave him the correct info. ********** Subject: Re: Woody and releases Date: Thu, 6 Feb 2003 09:04:07 -0800 From: kakman1 Here's a thought. Roy buys as many used vinyl copies of Flowers In The Rain single that he can afford, (UK, US, German, French, all versions) signs all the buggers, then goes off to New York again with band in tow, plays for a week or two and sells all the signed stuff at the concession stand at a premium (with a photo of course) and finally starts making money off the FITR debacle after say thirty six years. (Personally, I would never ask Roy or Carl or any member of the Move to sign my copies of "Flowers" at this time, it seems to be insulting or in bad taste. But if they got paid to sign my single, well, that is different I feel, they're finally getting compensated.) Next time he tours, he can also take a crate of signed First Light:Boulders and First Light:MFTC to sell at premium, too. Any new stuff he wants to record, he should do it all on his own, very much like say, Ani DiFranco or Aimme Mann, to name two. They pay themselves a lot more than any record company would, whether the companies are friendly or mercenary towards musical artists. It is a tremendous pain in the ass, (as is just managing and booking your own gigs) but in the end it is worth all the trouble. Any comments? And Lynn you are just as bad as Rob! Or was it Rob that said for you to say this? If its oldest in the sense of age then it must be Mike Sheridan. If its oldest in the length of time then it must be Mike Sheridan as I don't believe Roy was friendly with the Move members before they joined, although wasn't there some earlier connection with Jeff? Anyway Roy and Mike did record a lot together pre-Move days and Mike ran the Wizzard fan club for a while, so may be he is the oldest. Unless Roy is still in touch with someone from the Falcons, now there would be some treasures? The project is ongoing, and the final track selection hasn't been decided on yet. But it's all exciting. Me: Isn't everything? We also had Top Of The Pops then if I remember it well I heard a strange tune: "Night Of Fear" which reminded me of my favourite classic composer Tchaikovsky´s "1812 Overture". As a musician myself I liked the title of "N.O.F." and the great "bassy" sound plus the voice of Carl Wayne (I´m really into good voices as I'm also a singer). Yeah, the rest is history: I was turned on every time Roy & the lads came out with all these perfect hits.Naturally I bought the lot plus of coz the albums which in my in my opinion was too few. I saw/heard Steve Gibbons Band and I mean Trevor Burton was in the line-up, a real good show and very popular in Scandinavia. O.K. then came the next very, very, very thrilling thing that there had been rumoured about: ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA!!! I was stunned! Yeah so as a record salesman way back then I started to recommend this MUSIC to my friends and customers, Wao what a response! It was tough in the beginning I recall but with "On The Third Day" people understood what a good musician in all terms Jeff are. Then came a real MASTERPIECE: "ELDORADO" and I was in heaven again, and still am coz I got ALL THE BEST and have seen great groups and got everything by THE KINKS, THE WHO, ANIMALS, T.REX plus thousands of more. Oh, I almost forgot coz I got Roy´s solo efforts plus WIZZARD naturally. Bye MusicLovers Morgan DeWilde, DENMARK ********** Subject: Re: Tell us the news about yourself... After listening to the aforementioned album, I started purchasing the Repertoire CDs and downloading a few Wizzard tracks. I for one would prefer it to be done right this time even if the release falls well behind. Would you have wanted MFTC released on time last year and Rob to not add the Multi track alternate versions of California Man and Do Ya he found? I think not. OK things are not going to plan or on time and it is fustrating i know, but remember Rob is doing his best. Who else do you think would have took the time to do this? If not for him the only thing you could buy forever is the poor sound quality CD's out there now. How many of you have heard the Regal Zonophone version of Shazam on a Audiophile system? The CD you may have is awful! The album sounds nothing like that - it is stunning! Ask David Burley on the list what it sounds like i let him have a copy i restored to CD. He never plays the so called proper CD he has now! I have all the proper released cd's including the Jap mini sleeve CD's. Shazam even on the 24 bit remaster is crap. Movements is a joke. I collect this stuff but it is mostly not very good sounding. I should know i use very high end Audiophile system, Valve amps, Magnepan speakers etc. I am not trying to show off but trying to make the point that what we can buy at the moment is poor. The Warner bros and Jet stuff sounds poor too! Give Rob a break, he will get there in the end and we will all be singing his praise. ********** Subject: Re: Do we believe it? Date: Wed, 5 Feb 2003 01:02:58 -0800 From: Lynn Hoskins There was a funny Roy Wood mention in Monday's Edinburgh Evening News. It was in an article titled "40? I've still one or two ambitions left" by Stephen Jardine. The first few paragraphs tell the story... How time flies. Later this month I have a big birthday and, quite frankly, I'm terrified. They say 40 is the new 30 but it seems to open the door to somewhere I'm not quite ready to go. Before you know it, I'll be wearing cardigans and listening to Terry Wogan. Uncles are 40, Prime Ministers are 40, proper grown-ups are 40 and I'm not ... yet. To look in the mirror, not much seems to have changed. Fair enough, I can now spot the odd grey hair. And wrinkle. But essentially, I just see the boy who never grew up. Unfortunately, TV tells a different story. While most males can carelessly discard old photos showing a slimline stomach from days gone by, every so often I come face to face with footage from my past. Like a letter from a former lover, instantly I'm reminded of the way we were. Junior doesn't help. My six-year-old son is a daily reminder of the passing sands of time. Having sworn I never would, I now find myself regularly reminding him, it wasn't like this, that or the other in my day. Last week he bought his first record. I tried to persuade him to spend his pocket money on a band whose street cred is likely to stand the test of time and impress his student mates in 2015. But no, his mind was made up. Busted are apparently the group of the moment among those still too young to know any better or how to tie their shoes. To me they look like they could do with a good wash and a frontal lobotomy, but it seems parental disgust corresponds directly with just how cool they are. No, no, I protest and head to the attic to dig out my first record. Thirty minutes later we are listening to Roy Wood and Wizzard as I try to explain how men in make-up with kitchen-foil suits and girl hair can be cooler than the latest boy band from the States. Frankly, I'm busted. At least he didn't waste his record-buying virginity on the Cheeky Girls. He's about three years too old for them. To my surprise, the guy answering the door was none other than the well-known (in the 1960s) 'Seeker' and considerable song writer, Bruce Woodley. While being demoed the potential bargain, I noticed Grammy awards etc on the wall, one of which showed Bruce as co-writer with Paul Simon. Amazed I was and went home to check sheet music that Bruce was indeed credited with co-penning the tune. As far as I know he still lives in Australia, but he was a good guitar player...
