I liked the site. But I was quite shocked at the utter dismissal of DETOUR. I find that film to be the ultimate example of Film Noir. All that naturalistic darkness with a film budget of around $1.50 just wowed my orbs! If you also take a gander of the noirish life of the lead (Tom Neal) you have quite an orchestra doom...Oh well, i do not want to get all melodrastic... Hi Leo! Thanks for visiting our site. Yes, you aren't the first to write in with higher praises for "Detour" than we have written there. Christina wrote that review, and we have a rule that whoever does the work to put together a page gets to write the review. I liked it better than she did also. Oh Well! -K

I would like to purchase some film noir films on DVD. Please let me know how I can do this without a credit card. Thanks Boston BenThanks for visiting Ben! Online, I know of no other way but credit, but if you're still in Boston, I do know there are lots of great DVD stores that will carry some Noir titles (like the Virgin store on Newbury st, and any Barnes & Noble Books). Good luck! -KGH

You might want to add THE TAILOR OF PANAMA to your list of noir movies. Not really a spy thriller, it's a movie about corruption that takes place mostly at night. Pierce Brosnan & Geoffrey Rush seem like classic noir characters.

My Mom Was a Moll. Well, okay, perhaps not. But those old photographs make me wonder. Follow the link above to get to "Web Noir," my own site. Contains my film noir musings, brief summaries of noir films and very little academic flapdoodle. (If you've ever read "The Film Noir Reader," you know what I mean.) I already sent a notice about our conference, Mystery: The Florida Connection. I love your website, and maybe when I have more time I can check it out thoroughly. The Sarasota Film Festival is one of our sponsors, along with Sarasota Magazine, the Sarasota County Library System and soon Radio Margaritaville. Come to our conference--we'd love to meet you!!

Just a little complaint about the film titles list; what about the Maltese Falcon, Chinatown and Blade Runner- which are three of the great film noir, yet sadly missing. (Dear Adsky, thanks for the note! We do indeed have the Maltese Falcon (!), and agree about Chinatown and Blade Runner, which are both on our backlogged "to do" list. Each page takes quite a bit of time, but we're working on it. Thanks for visiting! -KGH

You'd think that a simple web search of the term "Film Noir" would yield an untold number of results. But, the reality is that it doesn't. There just doesn't seem to be all that many Film Noir sites for the knuckleheaded webhound to visit. Of the few that I have been able to track down, this one looms above the rest. A knock-out site! Better than swell. Low bows and praises to McGarrett and Il Monco--er, uhm, Lui and Hill! Incidentally, I found this site while searching for information on Alan Ladd. The site has never shown up on a straight "Film Noir" search (of which I have done literally hundreds). Anyhow, thanks for the wonderful site! Now,I am going to rush out (in a manner of speaking)and tell all my friends (if I have any) that I finally found THE site for Noir-nuts!!
