In the early days of SLUBA, back in 1986 or so, the replacement owners of the La-Di-Da's decided to release Jesse Barfield from SLUBA rather than sign him to a long term contract. Many of the owners thought Jesse had a few more productive years in him and were very, very surprised by this move. So now we use the verb "to Barfield" as in, "I'm going to Barfield that bum out of the league!" or "He was Barfielded last year."
