Dallas at LA Clippers It was a pretty ugly game for both teams. (An aside - it was fun trying to listen to the game as Dallas started Jim Jackson and Derek Harper and the Clippers started Mark Jackson and Ron Harper. The announcer didn't always remember to include the player's first name.) The Mavs shot horrendously throughout the game. Despite only shooting about 35% FG in the quarter, the Mavs were down only by 6 after 1. The Mavs tied the game at 25-25 about 4 minutes into the second after Lucious Harris had a nice, small streak and made a couple of buckets in front of his hometown. The teams traded leads over the next few minutes and then LA kept a 1 to 5 point lead the rest of the quarter. Tom Tolbert nailed a 3 at the buzzer to put the Clippers up 45-39 at the half. Derek Harper was 0-4 and Jamal Mashburn was 1-11 in the first half. The field goal shooting for the teams was Dallas 34%, LA 49%. The Clippers really helped the Mavs by missing _9_ free throws in the half. After 3 and not much excitement, it was LAC 71, Dal 67. Late in the 4th, Stanley Roberts was tossed (2 Ts) after argueing a loose ball foul. With 49 seconds left in the game, the Clippers were up by 2 at 84-82; Dallas had the ball. Lucious Harris drove, missed, rebounded, missed, and a Clipper got the ball. Greg Grant was fould driving and made both free throws with 19.8 seconds left. Jamal Mashburn drove to the basket and made it. Ron Harper was fouled and made both freebies with 6.5 seconds left and the final points of the game. Clippers 88, Mavericks 84. Dallas shot 39% FG for the game and LA shot 46% FG. LA also missed a total of 15 free throws, but made the key ones in the end. For the Clippers: Ron Harper had a good showing (besides free throws) with 28 points on 9-18 FG and 10-17 FT, 9 rebounds, and 9 steals. Mark Jackson only had 2 points on 1-8 FG, but had 11 assists and 2 steals. For the Mavs: Jamal Mashburn had an aweful night and finished with 7 points including just 3-17 FG. He also had 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Popeye Jones had a double double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Jim Jackson looked good and finished with 18 points, 3 assists, and 7 rebounds. Derek Harper finished with 8 points, all in the 4th (he was either 2-8 FG or 3-8 FG, I think). Darren Morningstar also looked well with 11 points and, officially, 9 rebounds. (The radio stats man had him at a double double.) Lucious Harris had 12 points on 6-13 FG and 6 rebounds. Doug Smith had a nice night with 12 points and 7 rebounds in 13 minutes. patricia (who could talk about the Mavs all the time, but sometimes doesn't want to)
