Training camp opened on Tuesday (yaaa!!!) and the first pre-season game is October 10 vs Houston. The regular season starts October 31 at Reunion vs Milwaukee (get your Halloween costume ready). The Mavs will be hosting a free open scrimmage Friday October 6 from 5 to 9 pm at Reunion Arena. You do need tickets for this event. Tickets can be obtained at the Reunion Arena box office and at KLIF. They might have tickets available the night of the practice as they've never had a full house for such an event before (and hopefully they will have tickets available that night since I only received 1 ticket (season ticket holders were mailed tickets) and my mom is going with me and I haven't had a chance to pick up another ticket). The scrimmage will start around 7 pm. The players will be available to sign autographs 5:30 to 6:15 on the concourse. On October 2, Dallas released Terry Mills at Mills' request. A solid role player, he would have had trouble finding minutes with the Mavs' full roster. He signed with Indiana today. Dallas also added two training camp fodder players in Mike Jones and Jamal Kendrick. Jones, 6-3 guard, participated in the Mavs' summer league and played last season in the CBA. Kendrick, a 6-8 forward, played last season in Italy. Dana Barros is not in camp and he has a bad back that will likely keep him out of action for at least 2 months. Don't expect him to ever wear a Mavs' uniform - if he isn't traded, he'll likely be released. He is in the last year of his contract. Everyone is in camp and in shape and there is a lot of excitement and promise with this team. I'm excited and ready to go. [Then again, the last time I felt this good about the Mavs, the team imploded.] Donnell Harvey was finally signed September 28 to a 3 year, $2,781,960 contract with a 4th year worth $1,631,906 at the team's option. The Mavs are doing a good job of keeping their web page up to date and have current camp information including quotes. Checkout http://www.nba.com/mavericks every once in a while.
