The Mavs are opening a satellite ticket office near the West End starting November 20. The ticket office will sell tickets for that night's game from 90 minutes to 30 minutes prior to game time. It will be located in the Star Parking lot, which is south of Woodall Rogers between Lamar and Griffin. Tickets can also be purchased at the American Airlines Center boxoffice. Dallas at Cleveland (November 14) There was a Shawn Bradley sighting in the 1st quarter of the Cleveland game! Bradley came out strong and aggressive for the first time this season. He had 9 points, 3 blocks, and 2 rebounds in helping Dallas build a 30-22 lead after 1. Jumaine Jones, benefiting on open looks from Dallas' trapping defense, had 9 points. Dirk Nowitzki tweaked his sprained ankle during the 1st quarter, continued to play on it, suffered a thigh bruise a few minutes later, and left for the locker room. He returned later in the 2nd quarter. Cleveland opened the 2nd quarter with a 13-2 run to take the lead at 35-32 with 7 1/2 minutes left. Dallas responded with a 20-6 run to take a 52-41 lead. Dallas led 56-51 at the half. Michael Finley had 14 points, including 8 straight, in the quarter. Dallas out-scored Cleveland 32-10 in the paint in the half. Dallas' lead stayed in the high single-digits and low teens for most of the 3rd quarter. Dallas led 77-70 with 1:30 remaining and closed the quarter with an 7-0 run, capped by a 3-pointer by Nowitzki on the break with 22 seconds left, to go up 84-70 after 3. Nowitzki had 13 points in the quarter. Lamond Murray injured his ankle near the end of the 3rd and left the game and did not return. Dallas made it a blowout early in the 4th quarter when their lead grew to 21 points. Nowitzki hit a 3-pointer with 3:25 to put Dallas up 104-85 and it was officially garbage time. Cleveland made the final score a little more respectable with 4 points in the last seconds of the game. Dallas won 107-94. The Mavs played a strong game and came away with an easy win. Seeing that Cleveland is basically a one-man team, Dallas focused on taking that man out of the game. Andre Miller only attempted 8 shots in having 7 points. He seemed content to dish the ball in the face of Finley's and the double-team's defense as he did have 16 assists (and only 1 turnovers). The key stat from this game is that Dallas out-scored Cleveland 54-22 in the paint and shot 55.4% (46-83) FG - including 59% in the 2nd half - while Cleveland shot 44.2% (34-77) FG. Dallas was led by Dirk Nowitzki with 28 points including a stellar 11-16 FG and 6 rebounds. He was really clicking as he was magic around the basket, draining the outside shots, and had a pretty 360 spin when Miller got in front of him on a break and nailed the short jumper. Michael Finley was solid with 22 points on 11-19 FG (no free throws) and 5 rebounds. Steve Nash had a double-double with 11 points and 12 assists and 0 turnovers. His assists were really pretty as 3 times he lazered in the ball to a back cutting Greg Buckner for the layup. And how about that Bradley. Shawn Bradley had 15 points including 7-9 FG, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists and was a key player in the 1st half. Juwan Howard had a rough night with 9 points on just 2-11 FG and 10 rebounds and a nasty quarter moon-shaped scratch from above his eye to his cheek - and no foul called on the play. Greg Buckner looked nice in his first game since opening night with 8 points on 4-5 FG. Adrian Griffin only had 4 points in his first game of the season, but had a beautiful cross-over move, that caused Wesley Person to fall, and drive to the basket for the layup that left everyone gasping. Tim Hardaway had 7 points in 18 minutes and Danny Manning only played 5 minutes. Darrick Martin and Donnell Harvey only got in at the end of the game. For Cleveland, Jumaine Jones led the way, taking full advantage of open looks, with 20 points on 9-12 FG and 6 rebounds. Lamond Murray and Michael Doleac each had 17 points. Those were the only 3 Cavs in double-digit points. Quotes Don Nelson: "We knew it wasn't going to be an easy game, and I don't think it was until we kind of broke it open in the 4th quarter. We had a game where everybody played well and I really liked our ball movement and our shot selection was terrific." Nelson: "This was a good start for us on a tough road trip. We knew it wasn't going to be an easy game, and it wasn't until we broke it open in the 4th quarter." Nelson: "We knew it wasn't going to be an easy game. But we played pretty well and I really liked our ball movement and our shot selection was terrific." Nelson: "I didn't think it would be an easy game, and I told the team that they'd have to beat them. I didn't think Cleveland would beat themselves, and that's exactly how it turned out. We were very good tonight and actually won the game." Nelson: "Bradey was a factor in the game. We've been waiting and it's always good to do it when you're on the road and you really need somebody to step forward." Michael Finley: "The same shots I pretty much got tonight I got the last game. I've just got to make the shots and I did tonight." Finley on his sore shoulder: "Tonight I just came out and played and had fun. But I'm fine. We've got great trainers and they're going to take care of me and make sure I'm all right." Dirk Nowitzki: "We knew it was important for us to get back on track and start this road trip off right. This was a good start." Nowitzki on Dallas' defense on Miller: "We watched their game [against Minnesota]. And how Miller goes, the team goes. We knew we had to double team him off the screens and get the ball out of his hands. People like Shawn Bradley would step up whenever he'd penetrate, and we did a good job." Nowitzki on aggravating his ankle in the 1st quarter: "It wasn't bad. I put ice on it and retaped it up. I ran up and down the hallway. It felt all right, so I decided to go out there. It was a little sore to begin with, but when I ran up and down a couple of times, it felt good." Nowitzki: "When something hurts, it always gets hit. But we got our running game going and we made our shots." Steve Nash: "We wanted to be a little more conservative defensively and take more pride in stopping our man. We ran our offense through Nowitzki and he drew some double-teams and we kind of got what we wanted." Nash: "It's nice for a point guard to get a double-double. It feels like you've had pretty good balance." Shawn Bradley: "I was more comfortable tonight. Why? If I knew, I'd bottle it and sell it." Adrian Griffin: "It's a little different playing in practice and playing in a real game. This is the first time we've played together the whole year and I was real impressed with the team." Griffin on his great cross-over move that resulted in a layup and Wesley Person on the floor: "I think I surprised him because I went right. I'm 99% left." John Lucas: "We had another tough team at home. They had too many inside points early in the game and that's too much for us right now." Lucas on Dallas' defense on Miller: "They took Andre out of his game. They made him strictly a passer and that bothered us. They exposed so many things that we have to work on." Lucas: "Finley, Nowitzki, Nash, and Juwan Howard. That's too much for us right now." Lucas: "I'd sure like to know what it feels like to win at home. Maybe we'll wear our road uniforms at home." Andre Miller: "Our game was to control the tempo, but we weren't able to get the rebounds and get out on the fast breaks. I did what a point guard was supposed to do - I made passes to other people and let them make the shots. I can't be too selfish on the court when they got 2 or 3 guys take you away from scoring." Michael Doleac on Cleveland's home woes: "This is just a mental thing. There's no reason why we can play solid games on the road and have letdowns at home. We have to work through this and we will. It's all in our heads. We have to forget about our lack of home wins and just go out and play." Doleac: "Nowitzki's a talented player. He has a great shot, he's active, and he gets a lot done." Lamond Murray on his sprained ankle at the end of the 3rd quarter: "When I went down, I felt like I sprained my ankle pretty good. But I walked it off and felt okay. I was trying to come back in. I went and tried to get it taped up real quick. When I came back out [of the locker room], it was a different ballgame." Detroit led 30-25 after 1. Detroit led 34-29 with 10 minutes to go and went on a 11-2 run to go up 45-31 with 5:20 left. Detroit led 49-37 with 3:15 remaining and Detroit scored the last 13 points of the quarter, started by 2 3-pointers and ended by a 3-pointer by Jerry Stackhouse at the buzzer. Detroit led 62-37 at the half. Detroit out-scored Dallas 32-12 in the 2nd quarter. For the half, Dallas shot terrible at 41% FG and Detroit shot lights out at 60.5% FG. Clifford Robinson had 20 points including 9-10 FG and Jerry Stackhouse had 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. Dallas scored the first 9 points of the 3rd quarter to pull within 46-62 with 9 minutes left as the zone defense was bothering Detroit, but a 12 minute delay due to a clock problem seemed to ice Dallas and give Detroit time to figure out how to beat the zone as Detroit built their lead back into the 20s by scoring the next 7 points. 4 points from Shawn Bradley and a technical free throw by Tim Hardaway closed the quarter and Detroit led 81-67 after 3. But Detroit opened the 4th with a 14-4 run to go up 95-71 with 8 minutes to go and that was too big of a hole to dig out of. Detroit led in the 20s the rest of the way and won 115-89. Triple YUCH! Hard to believe that this was the same team that beat Cleveland the night before. Dallas came out flat and looked that way the whole game. Dallas had 0 fast break points and 0 steals (only 2 time ever Dallas had a donut for steals). Detroit did everything right in this game and Dallas was clueless. The results was expected with such play - a blowout. Detroit shot 51.6% (47-91) FG and Dallas shot just 40.7% (35-86) FG and the Pistons out-rebounded Dallas 50-40. Detriot took Dirk Nowitzki out of his game as he only had 10 points including 3-14 FG and 7 rebounds. Michael Finley was the high man with 19 points and Shawn Bradley had a nice game with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Steve Nash had 15 points and just 3 assists and 4 turnovers. Juwan Howard had 10 points (5-10 FG) and 8 rebounds. Greg Buckner started (same starting lineup Nelson used in the opening night win vs Detroit) and had 7 points on 3-4 FG. For Detroit, Jerry Stackhouse led the way with 28 points including 4-6 3-pointers, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists and Clifford Robinson chipped in 24 points and 8 rebounds. Ben Wallace had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. 30 year old rookie Zeljko Rebraca had 16 points including 7-10 FG and 8 rebounds. My big complaint about Rebraca (and I noticed this opening night) is that he camps out in the lane - I counted to 7 one time and he still hadn't cleared the lane. The refs need to watch him for 3 seconds. All around, a night for Dallas to forget - or, even better, to remember and take it out on Houston tonight. Dallas needs to start playing better and more consistently. Their 6-3 record and others referring to them as "elite" do not accurately reflect the way the team has played so far this season - the Charlotte and Cleveland games have been the only solid performances. Quotes Rick Carlisle: "Obviously, I love the way we played. It was as hard as we've played all year. We certainly haven't played any harder." Carlisle: "You've got to be aggressive to score 115 points, but 9 turnovers shows that we were smart with the ball as well. Dallas is an elite-level team and it is good to see us take advantage of our homecourt and beat them." Jerry Stackhouse: "If we come out and play with that kind of energy and that type of defensive intensity, we expect to win the game. We are a confident team right now and it's building." Stackhouse: "I don't know how good we can be, but if we keep playing like this, we are going to be in great shape. It felt really good to put a number like that up on a great team like Dallas." Stackhouse on his 3-pointer at the end of the half: "Those kind of shots are momentum builders. They feel good and I just had to let it out." Ben Wallace: "They were our first game of the season and they kind of put one on us. We just wanted to come back and let them know that we let that one get away." Wallace on the 1st half: "That was an ideal 1st half." Wallace: "There's no such thing as a perfect half, but that was pretty close. We sent a message to the league that we aren't going to keep starting slowly like we did last year." Wallace on his double-double: "They were running a little zone on Stack and Cliff and I was able to sneak behind the defense." Clifford Robinson: "We came out determined to beat this team. People haven't been giving us much respect and we wanted to go and try to earn some. Beating this team is a step in the right direction." Robinson: "They are a good offensive team if you let them run around and do the things they like to do. We were physical with them all night, and we stayed in their faces on every shot. Even when they made a run at us, we stayed with our defensive principles and got through it." Don Nelson: "I've been doing this for 24 years and you have games like this. There's no excuse for it, no reason for it, but it happens sometimes. It's a bit of an embarrassment the way we played tonight. But I'm old enough to know those things happen once in a while, but they don't happen too often." Nelson: "As good as we were yesterday, that's how bad we were tonight. You wouldn't believe it was the same team." Nelson: "They beat us every which way you could. A bit of an embarrassment the way we played tonight. I've been around long enough, I can accept that on occasion." Nelson: "Give Detroit a lot of credit - there has been quite a change in that team since last season. They lead the league in defense and they are a very good team. The new coaching staff has done a great job." Nelson: "I mentioned at the beginning of the year that this was a different Detroit team. They are very good. We were lucky to beat them at our place and we knew we were going to have our hands full tonight." Michael Finley on Nelson calling the game an embarrassment: "I think that's an accurate assessment of the game. We played terrible." Dirk Nowitzki: "The 1st half was about as bad a basketball as we've played sinced I've been here. We looked bad out there. We didn't defend, we didn't rebound. We just didn't show up in the 1st half. In the 2nd half we tried our best, we tried to hang in there, but the hole was just too deep." Nowitzki: "That is as bad a game of basketball as we have played all year. I don't know what happened. We didn't score, we didn't play defense, and we didn't rebound." Nowitzki: "You just can't fall behind by 25 points and expect [to win]. That's impossible. Even when it's not our day we've got to find a way to stay in the game. Of course, it's always tough playing back-to-back, but that's the NBA." Nowitzki: "They took our fast break away. Our pick-and-roll wasn't very effective. They played very well defensively against us. We weren't able to do the stuff we wanted to do." Nowitzki: "We tried to make a run at them, but the hole was just too deep. There are always going to be nights like this, but you have to find a way to stay in the game and give yourself a chance to come back." Nowitzki on his technical: "I basically didn't say much. I got the technical - I don't know what for." Steve Nash: "It's very similar [to the Toronto loss], I don't know why. But it's worked out that way. They played great and we were sluggish, and they deserved it. They shot the ball great ... and they made a lot of shots." Nash: "I give them some credit for their defense, but we were sluggish."
