The Mavs have scheduled a news conference for 12:00 tomorrow (Friday) to reportedly announce that Jim Cleamons will be the new coach. The Mavs interviewed a mystery candidate about a week and a half ago and my guess is that it was Cleamons (I can't imagine that they would have hired him on the reported interview that he was to have today). Cleamons is in his 7th year as an assistant for Chicago and played in the NBA for 9 years. Cleamons' bio from the Bulls media guide: Begins his seventh season as an assistant coach for the Bulls... was hired on August 10, 1989... his duties include coaching the guards and professional scouting... prior to his position with the Bulls, he served as head coach of the Youngstown State University basketball team... before coaching Youngstown, he worked as an assistant coach at Furman University and Ohio State University... graduated from Ohio State in 1971... during his four season with the Buckeyes, averaged 18.5 points and 7.3 rebounds... entered the NBA as the first round draft choice of the Los Angeles Lakers in 1971, the 13th pick overall... was a member of the 1972 NBA Champion Lakers... best professional season was 1975-76 with the Cleveland Cavaliers when he averaged 12.2 points, 5.2 assists, and 4.3 rebounds... was named to the NBA All-Defense Second Team in 1975-76... was a teammate of Bulls Head Coach Phil Jackson in the 1977-78 New York Knicks... during his nine-year pro career, averaged 8.3 points and 3.8 assists... Jim, 46, and wife, Cheryl, reside in Deerfield. [He played guard and was born September 13, 1949] patricia
