Due to all the injuries that have been occurring, Coach Cleamons has moved
practice from SMU back to the Baylor-Landry Center, which has a softer
court.  Thus, tonight's (Wednesday) and tomorrow night's evening practices
are _not_ open to the public.  Boo, hiss.  [I worked until 8:30 last night
and took a 6:50 am flight back to Dallas so I could go to the practice.]

The injury bug has hit the Mavs.  Jason Kidd was being bothered by his
left hamstring and underwent a MRI on it yesterday.  The MRI showed that
it was merely a first degree sprain and will keep him out of practice for
the next few days.  He will not play in Friday's and Saturday's pre-season
games.  Chris Gatling pulled his groin muscle on Saturday and will be out
2 weeks.  Samaki Walker's weak knee problem is being re-analyzed and
reports are that he may be out until mid-November.  George McCloud
received 6 stitches on his forehead, but is still practicing (I wonder who
hit him).

The Mavs are one of several teams going after free agent (and Fort Worth
native) Oliver Miller.  Currently, the Mavs can only offer him the league
minimum - which probably won't be enough to get Miller, despite his
comment that Dallas is #1 on his list.  The Mavs are considering trying to
get a medical hardship for Terry Davis.  To due so, a NBA doctor has to
examine Terry and declare him unfit to play the season.  Terry and his
agent are resisting the Mavs' effort to have him out for the season -
which Terry has said will be his last season.  If the Mavs do manage to
get a medical hardship for Terry, the team will have $1.14 million (half
of Terry's contract) to use towards a free agent   Orlando has an offer of
$575,000 for Miller on the table and wants an answer by Friday.  Utah has
the $1 million salary cap exception to use, but Miller recently canceled a
trip to Utah.
