Jim Cleamons finalized his coaching staff. Jack Nolan, Charlie Parker, and Lanny Van Eman join Butch Beard and Bob Salmi as assistant coaches. Nolan was a scout and video coordinator for Atlanta since 1988. Parker was the head coach for USC last season. Eman has 30 years of coaching experience and spent the last 3 years working for the state of Arizona. Beard and Eman will be the head assistants. Nolan's and Parker's duties will include advance scouting. Salmi's duties will include breaking down video to analyze the games (including at halftime). The NBA only allows 4 coaches (assistants + head coach) on the bench, so Salmi will be in the video room and one of the other assistants will probably be doing advance scouting. The Mavs also named Mark Aguirre as director of player development and scout. Aguirre played for the Mavs for 8 seasons. He also played with Detroit's two championship teams. His duties will included helping the players in the off-season workouts (especially teaching the front court players low post moves), player liaison, and some college scouting. Aguirre, a good friend with minority owner Frank Zaccanelli, has been helping the team behind the scenes since the new ownership arrived. For those of you who remember Aguirre purely as the whinny, immature Mav from the 80s, he has changed. He has matured and admits that he made mistakes in the past with his sour relationship as a player with then coach Dick Motta. Aguirre also hung around the team some during practices, with Motta's blessing, and was seen at some games during the past two seasons.
