Because the Mavs decided they would rather not give any money for compensation to Southeast Melbourne Magic of the Australian league, Chris Anstey will not be joining the Mavs until after the Magic is done in the playoffs. That could be as late as November 2. The Magic have Anstey under contract through December. They will let Anstey leave without compensation after their playoff run ends (they won the championship last season and are in first place in the league with a record of 15-4). They said if Anstey left early for Dallas, the buyout price would be "substantial". Training camp for the NBA starts October 3 and the regular season starts October 31. patricia
