News from August 13.

Since Gary Payton refused to report to Boston for his mandatory post-trade
physical, the LA Lakers amended the trade to take Jumaine Jones instead
of Marcus Banks and removing the 2nd round draft pick and then Boston
agreed to waive Payton's physical.  The trade is official now and its
final form is: Boston traded a re-signed Chris Mihm, Chucky Atkins, and
Jumaine Jones to the LA Lakers for Gary Payton, Rick Fox, a 1st round
draft pick, and $2 million.

Detroit re-signed Lindsey Hunter.

New Jersey signed Richard Jefferson to a 6 year, $76 million contract
extension.

Former NBA player George Yardley died.  He was 75.  He played 7 years in
the NBA from 1953-54 - 1959-60, was an All-Star for 6 seasons, and was the
first NBA player to score more than 2,000 points in a season.
