News from October 3. The NBA announced new fines for flopping - the determination of a player having flopped will be by league review post-game and will not have a direct impact during games. A first violation will result in a warning, a second violation will result in a $5,000 fine, a third violation will result in a $10,000 fine, fourth violation will result in a $15,000 fine, and a fifth violation will result in a $35,000 fine. For six or more violations, a player would be subject to larger fines or suspension. The league defined flopping as: "any physical act that appears to have been intended to cause the referees to call a foul on another player. The primary factor in determining whether a player committed a flop is whether his physical reaction to contact with another player is inconsistent with what would reasonably be expected given the force or direction of the contact." The National Basketball Players Association announced that they planned on filing a grievance reguarding the flopping fines. New York signed Rasheed Wallace.
