News from April 8. The NBA named Nikola Pekovic (Min) and Carmelo Anthony (NY) as Players of the Week. Pekovic averaged 25 points and 8.5 rebounds as Minnesota went 3-1. Anthony averaged 41.8 points and 8.3 rebounds as New York went 4-0. Chicago signed Malcolm Thomas for the rest of the season after he completed his 2nd 10-day contract. Golden State assigned Scott Machado to the NBADL. Kevin Love (Min) is scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee to remove scar tissue. It is expected to take 4 to 6 weeks to recover from the surgery. The Basketball Hall of Fame announced the inductees for the class of 2013. The inductees are: Players Bernard King played 14 seasons in NBA including 4 with New York Knicks and 4 with Washington Bullets, lead NBA in scoring in 84-85 with 32.9 points Gary Payton played 17 seasons in the NBA including 13 with Seattle, won 2006 NBA Championship, 1996 NBA Defensive Player of the Year, won 2000 and 1996 Olympic Gold Medals Dawn Staley won Olympic gold Medals in 1996, 2000, 2004; college player of the year in 1991 and 1992, 5 time WNBA All-Star Coaches Sylvia Hatchell won NCAA 900 games, won 1994 National Championship with North Carolina, 3 time National Coach of the Year Guy Lewis coached 30 years in college with over 600 wins, National Coach of the Year in 1968 and 1983 Rick Pitino coached 1996 NCAA Championship with Kentucky, won over 600 college games Jerry Tarkanian won 990 college games, won 1990 NCAA Championship, 4 time National Coach of the Year Those players join Roger Brown (American Basketball Association Committee), Edwin B. Henderson (arly African-American Pioneers of the Game Committee), Oscar Schmidt (International Committee), Richard Guerin (Veterans Committee), and Russ Granik (Contributors Direct Election Committee) who were previously selected and did not have to go through the voting process.
