News from April 17. Brooklyn named Kenny Atkinson as head coach. Atkinson is currently an assistant with Atlanta and will remain with the Hawks for their duration of the playoffs. Charlotte placed Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (right shoulder surgery) and Aaron Harrison on IL. Cleveland placed Sasha Kaun and Maurice Williams (sore left knee) on IL. Detroit placed Lorenzo Brown and Darrun Hillard on IL. The LA Clippers placed Branden Dawson and C.J. Wilcox on IL. Memphis placed Marc Gasol (broken right foot) and Jordan Adams on IL. Miami placed Tyler Johnson and Chris Bosh (blood clots) on IL. Portland placed Meyers Leonard (left shoulder surgery) and Cliff Alexander on IL. San Antonio placed Matt Bonner and Andre Miller on IL. On Friday, the NBA held the tiebreakers (random drawing) for the 11 teams that finished with the same record to determine the draft order and lottery chances. Sacramento won the tiebreaker with Denver and Milwaukee (33-49, 8th worst record) and then Denver won the tiebreaker with Milwaukee. Sacramento and Denver will each have 19 lottery chances and Milwaukee will have 18 lottery changes - if none win the lottery (#1, #2, #3 draft picks determined by the lottery), Sacramento will draft before Denver and Denver will draft before Milwaukee (and the order will be reversed in the 2nd round). Dallas won the tiebreaker with Memphis (42-40, 15th worst record) and, thus, Boston (who owns Dallas' pick) will draft #16 and Memphis will draft #17 (Chicago also had a record of 42-40, but did not make the playoffs in the East and, thus, is in the lottery (and will draft #14 if they do not win the lottery)). Detroit won the tiebreaker with Portland (44-38, 18th worst record) and, thus, Detroit will draft #18 and Denver (who owns Portland's pick) will draft #19. Atlanta won the tiebreaker with Boston, Charlotte, and Miami (44-38, 21st worst record) and Charlotte won the tiebreaker with Boston and Miami and Boston won the tiebreaker with Miami and, thus, Atlanta will draft #21, Charlotte will draft #22, Boston will draft #23, and Philadelphia (who owns Miami's pick) will draft #24. The lottery drawing will take placed May 17 and the NBA Draft is June 23. 2016 Draft Lottery Chances and Order Lottery Chances Team Chances (out of 1,000) Philadelphia 250 [may go to Sacramento] LA Lakers 199 [may go to Philadelphia via Phoenix] Boston 156 [from Brooklyn] Phoenix 119 Minnesota 88 New Orleans 63 New York 43 [may go to Denver or Toronto] Sacramento 19 [may go to Chicago via Cleveland or to Philadelphia] Denver 19 [may go to Toronto via New York] Milwaukee 18 Orlando 8 Utah 7 Washington 6 [may go to Phoenix] Chicago 5 First Round Order 15.
