TRADE: Atlanta traded Andrew Lang and Spud Webb to Minnesota for Christian Laettner and Sean Rooks. TRADE: Miami traded Kevin Willis and Bimbo Coles to Golden State for Tim Hardaway and Chris Gatling. TRADE: Miami traded Billy Owens and Kevin Gamble to Sacramento for Tyrone Corbin and Walt Williams. TRADE: Miami traded Terrence Rencher to Phoenix for Tony Smith. TRADE: Philadelphia traded Sharone Wright to Toronto for Ed Pinckney, Tony Massenburg, and the right to swap 1st round draft picks in 1996 or 1997. If Philadelphia does not swap draft picks this year, they also receive Toronto's 2nd round draft pick. TRADE: Orlando traded Jeff Turner to Vancouver for Kenny Gattison and the worst of the 3 2nd round draft picks that Vancouver owns. The NBA suspended Charles Smith (SA) for one game and fined him $5,000 for punching Chris Gatling (then of GS) during Wednesday's SA-GS game. Atlanta signed Howard Nathan to a 10-day contract. Charlotte placed Muggsy Bogues on IR with a sore left knee, released Gerald Glass, and signed Donald Hodge. Houston signed Jaren Jackson, signed Sam Mack to a second 10-day contract, and placed Charles Jones on IR. The Washington Bullets announced that they will change their name to the Washington Wizards for the 97-98 season. Philadelphia placed Richard Dumas on IR. Washington signed Kevin Pritchard to a 10-day contract. Portland suspended Rod Strickland for one game for "numerous violations of team rules". Strickland is unhappy in Portland and wanted to be traded. Vancouver placed Eric Mobley on IR with tendinitis in his knee. Boston moved Thomas Hamilton from IR to the suspended list.
