TRADE: In a 3 team trade, Phoenix traded Wesley Person and Tony Dumas to Cleveland; Cleveland sent a 1st round draft pick no earlier than 2000 (lottery protected) to Phoenix; Denver sent Antonio McDyess to Phoenix; and Phoenix sent two 1st round picks (their own 1998 pick and Milwaukee's 1998 (top 10 protected) or 1999 pick), either the Cleveland pick if it is used by 2001 or Phoenix's 2001 1st round draft pick, two 2nd round picks (2000 and 2002), and cash to Denver. Dallas signed Michael Finley to a 5 year, $42 million extension with a player opt-out clause after 3 years (2000-01). Minnesota signed Kevin Garnett to a 6 year, rumored $121 million extension (the dollar amount has been reported anywhere from $120 to $123.5 million) - the largest contract in league history and it does not contain an opt-out clause. Denver signed Eric Williams to a 6 year contract extension. New York signed Pete Myers. Washington signed Jimmy Oliver, Johnny Rhodes, Darvin Ham, Chuck Kornegay, and Amal McCaskill. Houston re-signed Randy Livingston and Sam Mack and signed Doug Brandt. Charles Smith (SA) will miss all of training camp due to his still ailing right knee. Chicago signed Dante Calabria, Boris Gorene, Rusty LaRue, Kornel David, Dwayne Whitfield, and Eric Gingold. Detroit re-signed Don Reid to a 3 year, $3 million contract; signed #19 draft pick Scot Pollard to a 3 year, $2,823,000 contract and signed 2nd round draft pick Charles O'Bannon to a 2 year, $660,000 contracts.
