News from October 9. TRADE: After the final appeal by the NBA was turned down, the three-team trade involving Chris Dudley is now a fact. Portland traded Chris Dudley to New York, New York traded John Wallace to Toronto, and Toronto traded their 1998 1st round draft pick to New York. The NBA was against the trade saying it was an attempt to circumvent the salary cap as Dudley had opt-ed out of his contract, re-signed with Portland for the league minimum, and then the trade occurred. The courts upheld the trade and reinstated Dudley's salary for 97-98 to the original $1,135,000 Portland re-signed him to but the NBA rejected ($1,135,000 = Wallace's salary + 15%). Dudley will also retain the Larry Bird exception status with New York when he becomes a free agent again next summer. Seattle signed Greg Anthony to a 1 year contract.
