News from March 9.

The NBA named Karl Malone (Uta) as Player of the Week.  Malone averaged
32.0 points and 11.3 rebounds as Utah went 4-0.

The NBA fined Hakeem Olajuwon (Hou) $10,000 and suspended him for one game
and fined Antonio McDyess (Pho) $7,500 and suspended him for one game for
their altercation in Saturday's Pho-Hou game.  Mario Elie (Hou) and Kevin
Willis (Hou) were fined $2,500 and suspended for 1 game for leaving the
bench during the incident.

Toronto placed Gary Trent on IR with a strained left hip flexor and
activated Sharone Wright.

Seattle signed George Zidek to a 10-day contract.

Philadelphia placed Derrick Coleman on IR with a sprained left ankle.

assists.
