The Basketball Hall of Fame inducted the class of 1998 into the Hall.  The
inductees were:
  Larry Bird          played with the Boston Celtics 79-80 - 91-92
  Jody Conradt        University of Texas' women's basketball coach, won
                      700 games
  Alex Hannum         12 years coaching in the NBA and 4 in the ABA, won
                      titles with the 1958 St. Louis Hawks, 1967
                      Philadelphia 76ers, and 1969 ABA Oakland Oaks
  Marques Haynes      played 40 years with the Harlem Globetrotters and 
                      the Magicians
  Aleksandar Nikolic  101-39 record as coach of the Yugoslavian National
                      Team and record of 357-200 at the club level in 
                      Europe
  Arnie Risen         played 13 seasons in the 40s and 50s with the NBL 
                      and the NBA
  Lenny Wilkens       1,120 career NBA coaching wins - most in NBA history
It was the second induction to the Hall for Wilkens, who had been inducted
as a player in 1989.

Former NBA ref Joey Crawford was sentenced to 6 months of house arrest and
3 years of probation for income tax evasion.  Crawford was one of eight 
refs charged with downgrading 1st class airline tickets and not reporting 
the extra income on his taxes.  He had been an NBA ref for 21 seasons.
