News from November 13. Former long time New York Knicks coach Red Holzmann died. He was 78. Holzmann coached 18 seasons in the NBA and had a record of 696-604 - with 14 of those seasons and 613 of those wins with New York. His Knicks won the NBA championship in 1970 and 1973. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1985. Holzmann also played with the Rochester Royals (NBL and NBA) from 1945 - 1953 and one season with the Milwaukee Hawks in 1953-54 where he started his coaching career as a player-coach for the team. Former NBA player Paul Hoffman died of brain cancer. He was 73. He played for the Baltimore Bullets from 1947 - 1954. Seattle signed executive vice president of basketball operations Billy McKinney to a 3 year contract extension. McKinney was in the last year of his old contract. On the labor front: Nothing is happening. The Player Association and the NBA have not met and are not scheduled to meet. The two sides are still very far apart on an agreement. Though no official announcement has been made, it is safe to assume that no games will be played in the first week of December and it is likely that no games will be played in the second week of December and the entire month of December games are in danger of being canceled. Once an agreement is _finally_ reached between the two sides, it will take from 18 days to 4 weeks (with 3 weeks the most likely time frame) before the teams start playing games as they will need time to sign free agents and have a shortened training camp.
