News from May 7. Jamal Magloire (junior, Kentucky, junior) declared himself eligible for the NBA draft. The NBA Board of Governors approved the sale of the Sacramento Kings to Joe and Gavin Maloof. The NBA conducted the drawings for the tie-breakers for teams that finished with the same record. The drawings help determine the draft order. Boston won the draw with Phoenix and, thus, Boston will receive 37 chances and Phoenix (who owns Dallas' 1st round draft pick via the Steve Nash trade) will receive 36 chances out of 1001 for the lottery (and if neither wins one of the top 3 picks in the lottery, Boston will draft before Phoenix). Boston and Dallas finished with a record of 19-31. New York won the draw with Phoenix and Atlanta and Phoenix received 2nd place in the draw and, thus, New York will select #15 in the draft, Phoenix will select #16, and Atlanta (who owns Sacramento's pick) will select #17. New York, Phoenix, and Sacramento finished with a record of 27-23. Milwaukee won the draw with Utah and Milwaukee (who will send the pick to either Denver or Orlando) will select #18 and Utah (who owns Philadelphia's pick) will select #19. Milwaukee and Philadelphia finished with a record of 28-22. Atlanta won the draw with Houston and the Lakers and Houston received 2nd place in the draw and, thus, Atlanta will select #21 in the draft, Houston will select #22, and the Lakers will select #23. Atlanta, Houston, and the Lakers finished with a record of 31-19. Utah won the draw with Miami and Indiana and Miami received 2nd place in the draw and, thus, Utah (who owns Orlando's pick) will select #24 in the draft, Miami will select #25, and Indiana will select #26. Orlando, Miami, and Indiana finished with a record of 33-17. Utah won the draw with San Antonio and, thus, Utah will select #28 in the draft and San Antonio will select #29. Utah and San Antonio finished with a record of 37-13. 1999 NBA Draft Order The draft will take place June 30 in Washington, D.C.
