News from August 6. The NBA owners and Players Association met Thursday to discuss a new collective bargaining agreement. It was the first meeting of the two groups since the league imposed a lockout July 1. The first 90 minute meeting reportedly went well. The players' group presented a new CBA proposal at the start of the second meeting. The NBA owners group walked out of the meeting after 15 minutes calling the proposal "insulting". The players' group called the owners' walkout "staged". No new meeting has been scheduled. Training camp is currently scheduled to started October 6. It is going to be a long, long lockout. Former NBA ref Richie Powers died of a stroke. He reffed in the NBA from 1956 to 1979.
