Unfortunately, I've never really been totally happy with any of the others, because I could never control the parameters of the simulators enough to make them look the way I see them. Well, I've been writing particle simulators for a couple of years now, and I thought I'd apply that to my own fireworks screen saver. So here it is! You can control all the parameters of the simulator, including gravity, the mass of the various particles, the air resistance, etc. Just click the "Configure" button in the screen saver prefs.

Fluid 2.6 brings a few new rendering capabilities to the table. Most exciting is the ability to use video feeds as the reflection for the churning liquid. This means that you can now see yourself and your surroundings in the fluid if you have a video camera (an iSight, for instance). Fluid offers many rendering styles to choose from and they are even better than before. Fluid now has particle rendering, contour outlining, countour filling, and streakline rendering styles to make your Themes unique. Fluid now has liquid that is actually 3-dimensional and shows reflections. Fluid now comes pre-installed with a set of Themes so that you don't have to install them seperately if you don't want to. The "Themes" capabilities are still there and have been improved with preview icons.

About 2 years ago, I found some OpenGL code on the internet. I spent a weekend playing around with it, and though that it would be cool to have as a screensaver. I released Flurry 1.0 for free, but asked that users send me a postcard from where they live if they liked it alot. Flurry is now version 1.4, and Apple has even included Flurry as the default screensaver in Mac OS X 10.2 Jaguar. Their version is not as customisable as the Flurry you can download from here, but both versions include the Altivec code Apple wrote for me (Flurry was used at the WWDC 2002 by Apple's Architecture and Performance Group as a demo for optimisation techniques).

Something Fishy: 3D Desktop Aquarium 1.5
So what happens is, the screen fills with water and the fish start swimming around. Sounds simple, but it wasn't simple to make. The effect tho, is well worth the effort. It's far more "3D" than any other aquarium screensaver I've seen because the fish swim in all directions, getting closer or further away and all over the place. Watch it and see!

When I looked at a couple of other butterfly screen savers they all flew in a very basic "flap... flap... flap" fashion which made them look like a wind up aeroplane kinda deal.
