- Dr. Kathleen Forsythe, Manager Director of Generation
7 Marketing Ltd., Vancouver, B. C., Canada is one of the first knowledge
architects in the world and has been instrumental in introducing the
concept of open learning to North America over the past twenty-five
years. This has included pioneering work in the development of satellite-based
telecommunications networks and in the use of widespread computer networks
that evolved into today's Internet. She has beeen asking questions
about the nature of insightful technology - the only technology that
should be “in sight” of a child for
twenty years, first through the Knowledge Network, the first interactive
satellite service for learning in the world, then at the Center for
New learning, a school district-based R&D center, and, latterly,
through research and development towards the making of CD-ROM simulation
games and the proposed design of a children's Internet portal. Her
work has always been operational, designed to put original ideas into
practice in a practical and cost effective manner. Through her work
in the epistemology of the imagination and the biology of love, she
has contributed to the foundational work in Natural Learning and is
currently Chairperson of the Board of the Wondertree Foundation for
Natural Learning in Vancouver. A published poet and writer, she has
also produced televsions and other media for children and adults. A
passionate educator, Kathleen Forsythe has worked with learners of all
ages in both public and private education systems. She is a
past vice-president of the American Society for Cybernetics and has
just completed the first PhD awarded in Knowledge Architecture by the
Council for Alternative Scholarly Support.
