USGS SNoqualmie Pass, Lost Lake Humpback Mt 5174' 3/10/01 Our gang of four fools were excited by the forecast of sun and 0% chance of rain. On the drive down through Bothell, there sure was a lot of liquid sunshine on my windshield, and I was forced to swipe those rubber blades back and forth in an effort to block the "sun". Sheesh! Well, no matter, the mountain is begging to be climbed. We drove to exit 47 off of I-90, then up road 55 for about 1/2 mile until snow stopped us. Then walked up the road, then to road 5510. At the first gate there is an old rusty car with many bullet holes. Here we charged right uphill at a bearing of about 120. The brush was a little thick, but not unreasonably so. We crossed two roads. Across the second road we noticed a flagged opening in the thicket. A lopped-out trail goes to the summit from here, via the NW ridge. It's a pretty straightforward and safe route. We donned snowshoes at about 3500'. The top is a nice flat area. We enjoyed views of water droplets in the air for 200' in every direction. We wandered south on the ridge for about 1/2 mile until we ran out of time. The ridge looks like it'll go to Abiel just fine (although visibility wasn't ideal). Retracing our steps to the road, we took it down instead of fighting the brush. The road is considerably longer than a direct route, and passes some active mining claims.
