Source: Plans, Nomad
Last evening a local modeler, Jerry Crawmer, called me to tell me you had
mentioned my Nomad and was unable to secure plans. I couldn't verify
this as
my son had taken my November issue before I had a chance to read it.
I have the original master drawings of this and all of my designs
available for $7.50 post paid.
Sincerely, Ted Strader

If you are into Cox engines in any way you should check them out. They
have some great custom parts.
Thanks,

I've got a Cox Texaco .049 that is driving me nuts. I have the same
behavior both on the bench and in the air. The engine starts easily but
then becomes progressively more lean as it runs. On the bench, I can
run out the entire tank by backing off on the needle valve as it starts
to lean out. The problem is that the engine won't run (and is hard to
start) on the "final setting." Naturally, in the air is worse..If
there's a "middle setting" for the needle valve, I have yet to find it.
I suspected a leak at the O-ring, but replacement did no good. I've
fiddled with props and fuel (25%, 15%) with no real benefit.
Any advice (other than buying a Norvel...which is what I should have
done in the first place)?
Thanks

I noticed a question about throttling a Cox.010 and can offer my
personal experiences as follows: I once made a spring steel device which
wrapped around the exhaust ports of the .010 and sprang out a little to
release the exhaust pulses. The device could be rotated about the
cylinder so
The open end of the spring would expose about one exhaust port. It
worked
very well as the throttle on an my RC scale model of the "Curtiss
"Robin".
The model was cut from 1/32" sheet Balsa to match the outlines of an 18"
Sullivan(?) rubber powered model. The wing airfoil was a single-sheet 5%
curvature. The wing struts were functional. Rudder/Elevator steering
was
by Adams actuator and guidance by a Testors Pulse Radio iransmitter
working
thru an Ace receiver. It worked ell enough to impress the LIDS (Long
Island
Drone Society), who were the "official" R/Cers at Mitchell Field at the
time.
They all flew "Tone" radios with pushbuttons for "Left", "Right","Up",
"Down", etc.

I forgot to mention that the Nomad appeared in the 1961 August/September
Issue of Flying Models, a mere 40 years gone by.
I have already received an offer of a copy of the construction article.
You R/C guys are the greatest!
I have no yet heard if this plan is availabe from FM or not, I will drop
a line
to Lynn at Carstens and find out.

Hi SmallNet guys.
After a frustrating weekend with my non-small models, I've a hankering to
build (and fly!) something fun, small, light, cheap, fast and easy
again...
I've a draw full of .049's left over from CL days and am not scared of
the
drawing board... but what I am looking for is a design forumula which is
known to produce a good 'fun' 049 2 channel sport plane...
Can anyone suggest a span/chord and tail-moment combo?
Do the larger .40 type dimensions work scaled down or do I need to
increase
tail moment, (or something) when building small ?
Cheers... any pointers much appreciated....

Folks, it's great to see SMALLNET restart.
I have a new OK Cub .049B to put up for adoption. I've been waiting so's
I
could offer this engine up to anybody who is interested. It is
absolutely
new and unrun. This is the beam-mounted version with a small spun metal
fuel tank screwed to the backplate with a center screw. Many years ago
someone was offering engine 'kits' (not the Herkimer packaged products,
but
all the parts in a plastic bag and instructions), and I assembled it and
put it back in a bag. Never been mounted, never seen fuel. $35.00
postpaid.

Hi folks, does any one know where to get small spinners (ie.1") I just
did
the first flights on a O.33 Diesel power 33" Mercury Models DH 82; on 4
Channels and the results where very impressive. The only missing point is
the spinner! Anyone interested in the 33" DH 82 project drop me an e
mail
off-line.

The SMALL group the "Mosquito Squadron" from Ottawa Canada are at it
again! We are happy to announce our 2001 Winter Building Project. This
years model is a .15 size sports scale model of the RV-4. The kit we
are producing high quality & Laser cut with lots of goodies inside to
make your building experience more easier. The model flies great and
will do all the tricks. Due to our Canadian dollar the RV-4 is a real
bargin on your wallet and we hope you will buy one. The cost of the
plane is 80$cdn or 52$ US plus shipping. We are doing a small run on
the kits this year and we will have 20 kits that will go out on a first
come first serve basis. We are asking for a 10$ downpayment be made
first to reserve your kit! I will accept Cash or Personel Checks for the
downpayment. We expect the kits to go very fast as they sold out early
last year. We expect to be shipping in November. You can send your
downpayment to:
