Houang's is a small, inconspicuous restaurant behind Thai House, and it is apparent that few tourists frequent the place unless they are particularly fond of Laotian food and seek it out. The majority of the menu is Chinese and Thai, and I will admit I tried the Laotian food out of curiosity.

The Papaya Salad was somewhat sour, served chilled, and was extremely spicy to my order (I asked for 10 out of 10). I liked the papaya salad, but it turned out to be too spicy for me (I would recommend about a 6 or 7 if you like it spicy, and lower numbers for less spicy).

Although the Seafood Soup serves two or more people, I was able to get a small order which I used as "insurance" in case I did not like the main dish. The soup turned out to be wonderful--it had a light broth spiced with lime, the seafood was delicious, and was the type of food you would expect in an authentic Asian restaurant.

Sticky Rice was served with it to complete the "Laotian" experience.

Some other interesting menu items include the beef jerky (which I understand is a Laotian item) and pad entrees (pad curry, pad grapow with basil, and pad cashew). There is a very interesting drink menu including thai tea, soy-bean, and salo with palm (whatever that is).

The food here was very high quality--just don't order the spicy stuff unless you can handle it, because they will make it "Asian spicy."

I undertand that since my visit the restaurant changed owners, but I went in to look at the new menu and it still serves Laotian food.

Smoking is allowed, and the restaurant is so small you may not be able to get away from the smoke (however, I have not seen anyone actually smoking here).
