Chao Praya is not too distant from Great Wall Mall, an enclosed shopping center with an Asian theme full of stores, food stands, and restaurants. The advantage of going to Chao Praya instead of the mall is that parking is easier and customers can relax in the comfortable space to enjoy a Thai meal. Not having eaten Thai food at the mall I cannot say whether the food is better there, but Chao Praya's kitchen and facilities have enough space to allow them to cook a fairly extensive variety of dishes, something that is probably not the case in some of the small restaurants at Great Wall.

The Ginger Tofu I ordered at Chao Praya was rather bland and one of the least interesting versions I tasted in the greater Seattle area. I should say, though, that since I visited in 2003 my tastes have changed so that I no longer look for sweet versions of this dish, and I am now in the habit of asking for a large amount of fish sauce and other Thai flavorings that restaurants many times do not serve as a "default." While I was not very impressed with my meal at Chao Praya, there was nothing wrong with the food and chances are that I would like it a lot better after having much more experience at Thai restaurants throughout the Puget Sound area. Therefore in the case of this restaurant I am asking each customer to form their own opinion and not base it on my experience.

The menu includes some interesting sounding curry and noodle dishes, and it is possible some of these are quite good based on my experiences at restaurants to the north (Moragote in Renton) and to the south (Koong Thong in Auburn). South King County in general has much better Thai food than is found in the typical suburbs.
