Unfortunately, what can only be taken as an Aquaman parody was published under the "Aquaman" title for 14 issues (Aquaman #50-62 and Aquaman Secret Files #1). This run only bore a slight resemblance to Aquaman. The characters had the same names, but that was about it. This parody, which could be referred to as "The Vicious Sea-King", had no redeeming qualities whatsoever, except that it finally ended and a new writer was allowed to attempt to salvage the pieces of the Aquaman mythos.
Thanks to this parody, Aquaman lost most of its traditional audience, including almost all the female readers. The sales dropped dramatically, and at the end of the parody Aquaman was on the cancellation threshold.
The biggest storyline fallout from this parody was that Tempest and Dolphin were both given "off-screen" brain transplants that led to them becoming "white trash" and having a shotgun wedding. Dolphin's pregnancy was drawn out into Aquaman #63, where the next writer had to deal with it.
Another noticable change was that Aquaman's hook was immediately replaced with a mysterious and never explained cybernetic hand which he now favors over the hook.
Because these stories are so bad, I recommend you avoid these issues entirely. If you insist on punishing yourself with them, it is best to think of them as the writings of a lazy sensationalist journalist in the DC Universe who didn't bother to do his research and only thinks that this is what Aquaman's Atlantis is like. They do not stand well against any other Aquaman stories ever published.
Because of the low quality, these issues will no longer be reviewed on this page. They work only as a completely different series, and I will forever treat them as such. All the important information you need from the run is on this page.
