BREAKING NEWS: On Christmas Eve I received a used laptop from my father-in-law, which is now in the process of being converted to my new computer... thus you can let the rest of this go, now. I have a new computer.

My current system was home-built a few years ago. It's a desktop with lots of kludged bits. I'm running Windows 95 OSR2 on a Pentium Pro 250 MHz with 288 MB memory, and I've got 5.5 gigs disk space (most of it used). Recently, within the last couple of months, it's started to die more often as I try to browse the web or work on websites. The number of "blue screen" deaths and freezes finally passed the "cannot tolerate it without action" point over the weekend of Nov 9th, and I'm now starting to save/raise money for a "new" computer.

I plan on replacing it with a laptop running Windows XP as soon as finances allow for it. I figure if I can save up about $1000 I can get a "last year's model" that will serve all the purposes I need a new computer for. My goal is to save up/raise that much money by my birthday (January 20th) so I can plan on buying a new computer for the new year. Had to abandon that goal, as plumbing problems wiped out the possibility of me socking some money away this month.

Donations are welcome, but not particularly expected. If you want to donate to me with a credit card, please use the Amazon Honor System donation box. Paypal charges far too much for me to use it to receive money through it, but Amazon will only charge if I actually get money (I think it's 20 cents plus 5-15% of the donation). If you'd prefer to send me a check, please e-mail me to let me know, and I'll send you a snailmail address.
