So just yesterday (May 12) I went to check out a Turkish restaurant I found in Wallingford; no shwarma, sadly, tho' the kofte was good ... But the good news is that they have a tiny gift shop in the back, where I found these little chocolate-filled snack cakes we grew fond of in Turkey ...

Next total solar eclipse: Aug 1, 2008. Visible in: Arctic Canada, Siberia, Mongolia, China. I admit I'm fantasizing about paying a visit to northern Canada, but probably not; it's wayyyy north and weather prospects are poor. Plus it will be relatively short, about 2 minutes of totality. TIP:If you're thinking about attending the Beijing Olympics in '08, this eclipse will be visible in central China 1 week before opening ceremonies.
Next good one: July 22, 2009. Visible in: India, China, Japan (in the seas south of the main islands), Marshall Islands. If you've ever wanted to travel to China and/or Japan, this would be the time to go. This will be a long one (5-6 minutes depending on where you stand).
