Life in a 40 foot motor launch

Sorry for the long delay in continuing on with this tale. (although those of you who started late, won't notice.) But things have been real busy here at chez boat. We are all moved in, and have been living aboard for almost 2 months. It is currently pouring rain, (we are after all in Seattle) which is almost nice, as I just caulked a persistent leak on the starboard deck. (a grandious term for a 10 inch wide strip of wood.)

Life is quite fun here, the animals are all adjusting, after a few weeks of persistant bad behaviour on the part of the fluffy pink cat. But it only took on dunking and the continuous threats from the super soaker. ($7.99 from kaybee toys:) and now he's mostly harmless. (Klutzy as ever 'tho, He's fallen in the water once, and down the stairs into the galley (soon to be office) ah well, all the grace of a falling piano as my wife said.

The ferrets are having a grand ol' time. New places to explore, and new things to tear apart. What fun! The other cat, is being very regal and spends most of his day surveying his demense.

Modifications to the boat are not going as quickly as planned, due in part to poor weather, a lot of unanticipated expences, and a work schedule from hell (for me at least, Kat's work schedule is at least from heck tho') But what has been done is building the engine compartment, installing the wiring panel (wiring it comes next) and of course, setting up some of the computers. (So far, only the Powermac and an old '486/33 which is serving as a file server, (or will as soon as I get more HD's for it.) A laptop will be added soon, all running one variant or another of Linux of course. (Defenestrate your computer!) But there is need for more hardware, a laser printer and scanner would be nice. :) maybe a DVD drive...

We are finding ways of storing stuff in places that don't immediately spring to mind if you are used to lots of room, and experiencing the joys of community bathrooms. But we will get the head functional before winter. I don't mind camping, but at the moment, it seems too permanent:)

On the plus side, there's a small tap and grill around the corner that serves great local and national microbrews, and honest to goodness crawdads. So if you'll excuse us, the sun is breaking through, and beer and bugs are calling.
