Linux Links
Linux is not without it's areas of confusion. Especially for those coming
from the Mac or windows world. So perhaps these links will be of some
assistance to those who are treading the waters here in the free unix clone
zone for the first time.
General Linux info
Some of the many distributions of Linux.
Some of these distro's are for intel (i386) only, others are available on
various architectures from embedded chips like the Motorolla Dragonball used
in the palm pilot, to the CPU used by IBM in it's S390 series mainframe.
- Redhat Currently the most common
distibution in the US.
- SuSE A good distribution from
Germany
- Slackware A BSDish distribution
- The Debian project A very complete
distribution, and a great distro for sysadmins thanks to it's extensive
admin support tools
- Tom's root/boot Linux on
a single 1.44mb floppy disk
- Linuxcare A support company for
linux. They also have a pretty complete rescue distribution that fits on a
small "business card CD" One of those business card sized CDROMS which
hold about 50 MB
- LinuxPPCA distribution for machines using the
power PC processor, including many macs
