We have been lied to for so long, that some of the lies have taken hold with astonishing strength. It is not my intention to expose, explain and exploit all the lies fed to us from our earliest days in the public education camps that pass for schools these days. But I will hit the highlights of a few, and point to sources for more info on them, and for further exploration. The limits here, are political lies, There are many others, but politics is where this is focused.
Lets start with a simple one. It's the cornerstone of many of the angry denunciations of the left, and much of the hostility they seem to display to corporations. (whilst taking every dime they can from them in contributions, go figure.)
Corporations don't pay their fair share of taxes
There is at least 1 lie in this statement. First is the idea that corporations pay taxes. They don't. Not because they don't hand the government fistfulls of dollars. But because taxes are simply a cost of business, like any other form of bribe, and they pass the costs along to you in the form of higher prices. Consider the much maligned tobbaco companies, how much of the cost of a pack of cigarettes goes to the tobbaco company? Not much, about $0.25 a pack. Take the city of New York for example. For a pack of cigarettes priced to the consumer at $3.50, The breakdown is as follows
In contrast, the tobacco company gets apporximately $0.28 So you can look at it in one of two ways, either the corporations pay no taxes, but simply pass them on to you, or the corporations pay a lot more than any "fair" share you'd care to mention. In any case, both the states, and the federal government get more from each pack of cigarettes sold than the tobacco companies do.
