I am an individual who has been selling over the internet, primarily eBay auctions, since 1996. Most of my sales are collectable coins, camera equipment, and occasional computer equipment or other types of items.
Coin Grading: I use Photograde for all uncertified coins. I will normally not list a numeric grade for uncirculated coins, instead describing the condition of the coin. Counterfeit Coins / collectables: I guarantee all items to be genuine and unaltered (unless specified otherwise). If you want a coin certified as genuine, let me know (since it can take 4-6 weeks). If found to be fake or altered, return the coin for a full refund and payment of reasonable certification costs.
Testing Camera Equipment: I use a detailed list of tests on cameras and related equipment. I try to ensure that all features of a camera work, and that lens have clear glass, smooth focus, and working diaphrams.
Testing Other Equipment: I try to test other equipment and provide a warranty depending on my confidence in the tests. For computers, I'll test basic functionality but I don't try each serial, parallel, and network port. For cards, I'll plug them in if I can but often can't perform detailed tests or it's not worth the effort for something worth only a few dollars.
Returns: I maintain an unconditional return policy. I make mistakes on occasion, and will try to resolve any problems found. Coins must be returned in the original holder, other merchandise in the condition sold. I will ask why you want to return the item so I can correct any mistakes, but will still accept it back and refund your money. I have had very few returns in the past and so long as it isn't abused I'll continue with a liberal and flexible return policy.
Warranties: I will state a warranty on items where it makes sense, such as camera or computer equipment. This will be one of:
Shipping: I specify either an exact shipping cost or exact shipping for a particular weight package. I keep shipping close to exact postage plus material costs. This means an item under 1 ounce ships for $.35, a 2 ounce item for $.60, etc. At this rate I am collecting a few cents over exact postage, which goes to materials.
If an item needs a padded envelope (coins larger than U.S. silver dollars and multiple coins over 1 ounce) then I add 20 cents for the envelope. If the weight is over 12 ounces then I'll fix the cost at exact postage since the post office provides free Priority Mailers.
All fixed shipping amounts are estimates, and the postage on the package may be a bit more or less than you paid. I've periodically checked my records and find I'm not making money on shipping, and I assume that since it's spelled out in the auction you know up front what to pay.
For items over about 5 lbs (3kg) I'll specify shipping based on weight and will provide a shipping charge after getting your address. For hard to pack items such as 100lb (40kg) computer monitors I may also add a packing fee and let a shipping center handle it. If so this will be stated in the auction description.
Taxes: There is no sales tax on coins in Colorado, for all other items the state requires that I collect tax on all sales within the state unless you have a valid Colorado sales tax exemption such as a reseller's license. Tax rates range from 2.9% to 7% depend on where you live relative to Longmont. I will send sales tax rates with the bill for an auction.
Payment: Services like PayPal or eBay Payments are fastest if available. If you prefer another service let me know and I'll see if it's worth being able to accept payments.
For mailed payments, I can only accept payment in U.S. Dollars (cash, check, or money order). I can also accept payment in Canadian dollars (check or money order only) at the exact conversion rate (the bank doesn't charge a fee). For other currencies, the bank charges me about $15.00 to deposit a check, so I can't accept other currencies without the buyer paying the extra cost.
For most international sales, sending cash is pretty safe and a good option for small purchases. I often send cash for my purchases. For large purchases or if your mail has poor security a check or money order denominated in dollars is best. I'll work with you to find an acceptable option.
On occasion I may accept a trade, but please contact me before bidding on the auction so we can reach an agreement.
