DIAMOND CUTS: A COMPILATION OF BASEBALL SONGS AND POETRY
What is it about the sport of baseball that inspires people to pay homage to the game through verse and music? (After all, when was the last time you heard a good tennis or golf song?) Not only are there a lot of baseball songs out there, there are a lot of good baseball songs. So many, in fact, that it's impossible to put them all in one single collection. This marks the beginning of the Diamond Cuts collection of baseball songs and poems. The Diamond Cuts collection was inspired by a passion for baseball, music, and helping others. The proceeds of Diamond Cuts will provide start-up funding for Hungry for Music, a Washington, D.C.-based charity organization that is developing musician mentoring, creativity workshops, and concert programs for inner city children. It will also benefit the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum/Players and the Jackie Robinson Foundation through Major League Baseball's Negro Leagues Licensing Program. Besides the charity aspect, Diamond Cuts other objectives are to celebate our national pastime, honor former Negro and Major League player greats, provide less known contributing artists with national exposure, attract new fans to the game, and deepen existing fans appreciation for the game. Diamond Cuts includes over 70 minutes of music and poetry by both popular and lesser-known artists covering many music genres, including bluegrass, folk, rock, pop, blues, jazz, rap and gospel. Among those appearing on Diamond Cuts are: Rev. Jesse Jackson, Bob Costas, Jerry Jeff Walker, George Winston, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Dan Bern, Sam Bush, Chuck Brodsky, Martin Sexton, and Tom Paxton. The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum's Chairman and star of Ken Burns' Baseball documentary, John "Buck" O'Neil is the official spokesperson for Diamond Cuts. Copies of Diamond Cuts (CD only) can be purchased by calling toll free, 1-888 843-0933 between the hours of 10:00 am and 6:00 pm Eastern Standard Time or contacting Hungry for Music at 2020 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20006. Compact Discs are $15.99 plus $3.00 shipping and handling.
