Cox's Orange is a delicious heirloom apples. It has been used as a parent of many of the best hybrids. Here, the fruit begins turning in late August, although it will not be ripe for another month or so. Planted in the azalea garden, it has a backdrop of rhododendrons larger than the tree itself. |

Many apple connisuers consider Cox's Orange the best tasting apple of all time, with subtle flavors that have never been equalled. We pick ours at the beginning of October, as shown in this picture. They can be eaten fresh, or stored to let the flavors mature. Over time, the taste overtones will change from pear melon to orange to mango. |
