In addition to direct energy usage, dryers take air from the house that has been heated or cooled to a comfortable temperature and expel it outdoors. Cold air which has to be heated, or hot air which has to be cooled, then comes in from outside to replace that air.<\/p>\n<p>So in addition to the 6% of the households energy that they use directly they account for an even larger share when you consider the indirect costs.
