DEBRIEF - TRIP TO THE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSEON AT THE UNITED
NATIONS AND THE WORLD COUNCIL OF CHURCHES IN GENEVA

This visit was done to the UN in Geneva after being invited by the Deputy
Director of the Human Rights commission to visit their meeting from Nov.
2Nov. 9 iD Geneva after meeting with the D/ Director at New York.

The Geneva trip was funded by IAS, making it possible to do this cycle.

Four people were involved in the trip, Sylvia Stanard, Execution Dir CSI
OPA DC; Dr. Joseph Paige, Shaw Divinity School (Baptist religious school);
Paul Rood, Scn celebrity from Holland; and Rob Heimstraw, Holland PR. Dr.
Don Sills from the Coalition for Religious Freedom was supposed to go but
at the last minute had to handle a funeral and some PR handling for some
religious leaders who were killed by terrorists in the Dominican Republic.

Before going a presentation was written which detailed some of the Human
rights violations in various countries, particularly Australia and EU
countries along the lines of psychiatric regulation. The message throughout
was that there is a specific program to put religion under the control of
the psychs by introducing and passing legislation aimed at controlling
religious counselling.
 EVENTS

On monday I was the only one there. Dr. Paige had missed his flight and
hadn't arrived as scheduled. I attended the Human Rights commission meeting
as a spectator and picked up all the promo on what they were specifically
discussing so that I would have more R in talking to the commissioners.
They were discussing child labor problems particularly in Central America
and reviewing some new laws in Finland which related to trials and prisons.
One major button of note on the child labor debate was the fact that drugs
are a real problem with young kids using drugs.

I also handled getting Paul Rood and Rob Heimstrow there to assist with the
visits and projects as Paul had a comm line to Mr. Rerndl, the Director of
the Human Rights Commission.

Tuesday I again attended the Human Rights Commission meetings and tried to
talk with some of the Commissioners but several that I tried to talk with
didn't speak English. I then got the Switzerland DSA to close a
Scientologist from Geneva to assist with translations to handle this
problem. She found a Scner in Geneva named Fernon Pasch.

Wednesday Paul Rood and Rob arrived and we all again went to the Human
Rights Commission meeting. I was able to set up a  meeting that day with
the Deputy Director of the Commission, Mr. Nyamelcye .

DEPUTY DIRECTQR MEETING

Paul, Rob, Fernon, and I attended this meeting and presented Mr. Nyamekye
with the submission on religious freedom abuses in various countries and
discussed this problem. We brought up to him that the Austrian governwent
was intending to report the "problem" of new religions in it's official
report on religious freedom problems in the world. They hoped that this
would be incorporated in a special report that is currently being written
about religious freedom problems internationally.

An attorney from Costa Risa, Mr. E. OdioBenito is the expert (called
Special Rappateur) who is writing this report for the human rights
commission. He explained that this is being done by having all the
countries who are UN members answer a questioner about religious freedom
abuses in their countries and any they are familiar with in other
countries. Many countries, but not all, have answered this questioner so
far. Austria has not done so yet.

When Mr. Nyamekye was shown the Austrian government report about their
intention to attack new religions via this report he
was quite incredulous and shocked. üe said that it was up to the
 Special Rappateur as to what would be contained in the report and
that he couldn't see how this would fit in with her mandate at
 all. The mandate for the report stems from the Universal
 Declaration of Human Rights which has a paragraph promising
 religious freedom includin£ full freedom to practice, study,
 teach, and confer with members of your faith and the full right
 to change religious beliefs at any time. This is so broad it is
 entitled religious conviction or belief and is very proreligious
 freedom. So therefore thc report would not talk about
 restricting religion if it is to fit it's purpose.

 Mr. Nyamekye agreed to send the submission to Mrs. Odio
 Benito on his stationary asking her to fully review it and
 include any applicable data that she sees fit.

 He also took the names of specific Human Rights
 Commisisoners that we wanted to meet and agreed to personally ask
 them to meet with us.

 When we first came in he also commented that he had gotten
 the letter from Dr. Psige asking about getting NGO (non
 governnental organization) status for the World Council on
 Religious Freedom (Dr. Paige's new group). He said that he was
 quite sure that they would be able to assist us to rapidly get
 this status. He commented that the next meeting to review NGO
 applications was in January of next year in New York. The
 committee will be reviewing applications and the Human Rights
 Commission will be vouching for the credibility of our group. He
 said that if we get the approval in January (which he thought we
 probably could) that this would be the fastest approval ever in
 the history of the UN. It usually takes about two years to get
 approval. <Note: This means that when we have NGO status we can
 give speeches at the UN on religious liberty subjects, issue
 formal papers to all UN members from the NGO status, and many
 other privileges which will help the cause of retigious
 freedom). ;

 ECUADOR DELEGATE

 Paul Rood and Rob Neimstraw also met briefing with Mr.
 ValleJo, the Commissioner from Ecuador and gave him a copy of the
 submission. They ran into him in the hall while looking for the
 Neatherlands delegate. He was very interested in what they told
 him about the religious freedom problems and promised to read the
 materials and discuss the problems with his fellow members. He
 is on the Human Rights Committee which is like an Executive
 committee for the commission. There are only eighteen people at
 a time who are on this committee.



PRESS CONFERENCE

The next day Dr. Paige arrived just in time for the press conference that
we had set up and arranged in the Noga Hilton hotel in Geneva. The
arrangements and press call in for the press conference were done by a
Scner from Geneva who spoke French in liaision with PR EU and DSA
Switzerland. All the major press were called and a few were interested,
most said that they ~ wouldn't be able to come as they were too busy with
the upcoming Summit conference in Geneva the next week (with President
Reagan and USSR President Gorbachov).

We held the press conference with Dr. Paige, Paul Rood, and myself. The
only press person who came was Beat Glut from the Switzerland news agency.
We discussed the problems of religious freedom in EU with this reporter and
answered his questions on the reasons behind these problems. He wanted to
know if there were any abuses in Switzerland that had been talked about in
the UN report. There weren't any. He was in comm and left. We later
followed up with him and he didn't write a story as he felt that he needed
a better Swiss angle, either if there was a specific Swiss abuse cited, or
if the UN actually issued a statement or study using any of these materials
he would cover it then. We thanked him for the interest and got him
interested in Paul Rood's upcoming ride across EU to Rome (to see the
Pope). He promised to cover this when Paul rode through Geneva in the
Spring, also to cover any statements that come out about religious freedom
that have any of this data.

We also visited several other press including Time magazine, Dutch TV and
radio news service, UPI, AP, and De Telegraf. All said that they just
couldn't get any print space in their newspapers, TV or radio with the
upcoming Summit that they were full time only doing this. All were
developed as comm lines for Paul's trip in the Spring and every one
promised to cover him when he came through Geneva in the Spring but just
couldn't do anything now unless it was something on the level of the
President of Switzerland being killed or something, they wouldn't be able
to get anything in from Geneva except the Summit.

UK DELEGATE

We met thursday afternoon at the arrangement of Mr. Nyameke with the Human
Rights Commission from the UK, Mrs. Higgings. Mrs. Higgins was a quite
proper British lady. Dr. Paige, Paul Rood, Rod, and I were at this meeting.
I introduced Dr. Paige from Shaw Divinity School, myself from the Religious
Freedom Crusade, and Paul and Rob as C of S members. She was very
interested in Dr. Paige being a Baptist and tended to notis the C of S
members. She was interested in the Religious Freedom
Crusade and asked who were members of this. Dr. Pnige answered
 that there are many groups and religious individuals involved in
 F it. These include Baptists, Jews; Catholics, members of the C of S,
other new religious movements, and concerned citizens.

I explained about the events that the Crusade has done in the US to bring
attention to the issue of religious freedom.

She spoke mostly with Dr. Paige and was interested in what he had to say
about the Cottrell report and the Vivien report. She expressed concern that
these actions and any other actions by countries aimed at the "new
religions" might affect the "established religions", especially religious
schools.

She explained that unfortunatly for the Human Rights Commission to
offically and legally do anything there would have to be a bill actually
passed and being put into affect. At this point any concerned group could
bring an official request to the Human Rights commission or the European
Commission to review this. All European countries are members of the
European council and have agreed to some international law statutes that
dictate abiding by human rights ineluding religious freedoms. Any laws
which are passed can be brought to the European commission and thrown out
by them if they find that these laws violate international treaties. This
unfortuatnely can only be done after the laws pass.

But she did say that when such laws are being debated (as Heber said there
is currently something in the Italian Senate) that the Human Rights
Commissioner from that country could be contacted, or directly a member of
parliment could be allied. These people then should make a point of debate
in the parliament that this bill would only be thrown out by the Human
Rights Commisison so why should they pass such a law and be embarassed
internationally by having their laws thrown out. »

She had to leave for a meeting that was paged over the loudspeaker at that
point. She would like to be sent any additional materials that directly
relate to the UK if there are any known abuses there.

She also promised to discuss our concerns with the delegates from Italy and
Germany as they had been too tied up to make any other appointments. She
originated on her own that she would discuss this material and our concerns
with them and suggested follow up letters be sent to them.

FRENCH DELEGATE

We then met with the Human Rights Delegate from France, Mr. Erara. Mr.
Errera was very social and greeted everyone, he was in fear on the tone
scale and never looked at anyone, but was very nervous and polite. He
wanted to know who everyone was and introduct ions were made around.

I explained our concern about the Cottrell report and the Vivien report in
France espec ally and that these types of antireligious and bigoted reports
are causing problems in France that violate human rights such as the
bombing in Paris of the C of S, police raids against churches, and
diseriminitory practices being contemplated.

Mr. Errera vehemontly denied that there was any acceptance of the Vivien
report. He said that he was personally opposed to the Vivien report. While
he may not agree with the new religions they have a right to practice. He
also said that the Vivien report was published about a year ago, it came
out, the press didn't really accept it and there were many articles against
it, it was also condemned by the religious community and several other
parlimentarians and that was that. Since then he didn't know of any further
attempts or legislation or use of the Vivien report for any persecution. If
there were any legislation that this he would be interested in when it came
out.

He also said that Vivien was not a well known legislator and he didn't know
what possessed him to do this report but that we shouldn't worry about it
having any credance in France with the government.

He stressed that if there are abuses or violations that they should be
dealt with by the regular existing laws, they don't need to do anything to
attack new religions. He cited here that when Mr. Hubbard for example was
convicted for fraud, they didn't need any special laws. He stressed that
there should be no special attention put on prosecuting newer religions
versus older religions and cited a case against a Catholic monastary in
France also for fraud (he talked like we would be familiar with the case so
he didn't really say what the charge was but it sounded like fraud for
selling falsely dated wine or something).

I brought up the attack against the C of S in Paris after the Vivien report
and said that this bombing was an example of the type of terrorism that is
generated by such propoganda and this is an example of why they should do
something. He said that there are unfortunately many terrorist attacks in
EU.

I told him that I would send him some specific materials when I returned to
the US from France that detailed human rights abuses there. He also agreed
to stay in comm with us and accept documentation of specific abuses in
France that are related to
religious freedom.

Although this guy was low toned and not very able to
 confront evil I will get with France and prepare some specific
 documents for him and try to establish a comm line that can be
 used for comments against Vivien.

 HUMAN RIGHTS RESEARCH CHIEF MEETING

 We then had another meeting personally set up by Mr.
 Nyamekye for us with the Chief of the Subcommittee on the
 Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities. Mr.
 Tardu was the Chief. This subcommiteee is under the Human Rights
 Commission and technically junior to Mr. Nyamekye but Nyamekye
 stressed that Mr. Tardu has been with the UN for thirty years and
 that he is very independant and allowed to do his own work. He
 is in charxe of all research, papers, and writings on this
 subject for the UN. Religious freedom falls under this category
 and in fact Mr. Tardu was introduced as the main staff person who
 wrote and got through the Declaration Against all forms of
 intolerance. It is from this declaration that the special report
 is being worked on by Mr. Benito about religious freedom.

 Mr. Tardu was very glad to talk with us and explained what
 the Subcommittee does (all the research on the subject, collects
 data, recommends studies, recommends actions etc). He gave us a
 speech about the subcommittee and it's working as well as the
 importance of human rights in the world. After a five minute
 speech he stopped and r was able to get in comm with him and ask
 questions. He talked only to me and visably got upset if Dr.
 Paige or Paul asked any questions. (He's been dealing in
 significances too long).

 He explained that the special report on religious freedom
 that is being written was supposed to have the progress report
 reviewed at this session but that just the day before the
 committee had voted to not bring it up this year as they didn't
 have time to debate it. Thus the progress report will be
 rewritten and submitted for the next meeting in August of 1986.
 The final report then won't be submitted and voted upon by the
 Human Rights Commission until August of 1988. (They have a two
 year rule where the same subject is only discussed every two
 years so that they aren't always discussing the same subject but
 cover various issues. This will give us time to get all our material into
the next progress report which is circulated to all
countries and representatives.

I told him about the Austrian government document which says that they want
to get the "cult" issue into the report. He laughed and said that the
special rappateur has full independant authority as to what goes into her
report but that they work very much with her and that if this type of
response comes in from Austria (Austria hadn't yet sent in their response)
that the oDly way this would be included in the report would be as an
example of why there is need for religious freedom. That it was completely
ridiculous for such a thing to be in a paper which urges religious freedom
and freedom to change your beliefs.

I gave him the pack of materials and he asked for two copies 80 that he can
keep it in his files and have one for giving to others who may be concerned
about it.

I then asked him if it would be possible to get a copy of this preliminary
report. He said that he would authorize me getting a copy for review but
that this is a confidential preliminary report and since it wasn't reviewed
in any open sessions this could not be used or given to any media. If
however, I wanted to see what the tone of it was, format etc that he would
have the Chief of the Discrimination section (his junior) give me a copy. I
agreed to this and he took us all down the hall and introduced us to the
Chief of the Discrimination subcommittee.


DISGRIMINATION SUBCOMMITTEE CHIEF

We then met with the Chief, Mr. Norst Keilan. He was a very uptone German
man who was very pleased to see us. He told us about what the special
rappateur is doing with a paper on the religious freedom issue. He is
directly running the special rappateur and reviews all incoming data before
sending it along to her.

They have sent out an inquiry to all UN member countries for any problems
with religious freedom that they may have in their countries or know about
in other countries. Dr. Psige commented that he had SeeD the US response to
this and that it seemed like there were absolutely no problems in the US
whereas there are increasingly problems in the US with religious freedom.

Mr. Keilan said that of course, none of the countries will ever admit
anything wrong in thier country, that they rely on groups like ours to
supply the true data about what is happening in various countries. He
further explained that his office does all of the research about
discrimination problems against any
groups whether for religious beliefs, race, or creed. Fle was
very excited that there was a group like the Crusade and the
World Council who would be able to supply them with information
 tW and documents about religious freedom abuses internationally. He felt
this was vitally needed by his section.

asked also for a copy of the preliminary report and he
went to get it but only had a copy in Russian. He had to get the
 English copy from the document room and promised to mail it off
to me right away. He would welcome any comments or
 recommendations on the progress report. He asked that we stay in comm with
him and that our groups work together with his office to make this a bigger
issue at the UN with full data being
 gotten.

 WORLD COUNCIL OF CHURCHES

 Paul Rood was able to get a meeting with the Neatherland's
 representative at the World Council of Churches, Mr. Ans J. van
 der Bent. Mr. van der Bent was at the original meeting that was
 held with the Crusade in September. He was in comm and
 interested what we were doing in Geneva this week.

 I explained that we had come for the Human Rights Commission
 meeting and that we were concerned about religious freedom abuses
 particularly in Europe and Australia that have been occuring.
 Mr. van der Bent was interested in the problem and took the pack
 of materials. He said that we really needed to meet with the
 Couenil of Churches representative from each of the countries
 that there are problems existing with.

 He said that we should get a new book he just finished
 writing which will be about in about 6 weeks, it is entitled,
 Handbook Member Churches World Council of Churches. We will be
 ordering this next month when it's available. It details all the
 member churches of the WCC and gives a short discription.
 Meanwhile he gave me copies of their internal directory which
 lists all the Councils with a contact person and address. This
 just does not have the data on the composition of each of the
 groups.

 He explained that the WCC has a hard time often getting
 involved in attacking religious freedom abuses in various
 countries because those same countries are members of the WCC and
 usually the churches are politically very close to the country
 itself. So the churches in each country often might not agree
 that something was a problem (for example Communist countries the
 churches are usually communist oriented and agree with that
 philosophy). He said that we could use the WCC's same in
 contacting any of the Council of Churches for any country  for
 example in discussing the Australian situation he suggested that
our people in Australia visit the council of churches there and s say that
at a recent meeting at the WCC, the WCC was very concerned with the problem
in Australia and suggested that we visit the local council of churches
there and get their support. This will give us the leverage of the WCC
without having to go through getting all the WCC members to agree to issue
a statement or something, which it rarely does due to this problem in
getting agreement from widely varying political philosphies.

Also if we were members of the WCC then the WCC could speak out on our
behalf, as a member group has brought this to their attention....

I asked how we could possibly get membership in WCC as we have tried for
many years but haven't been able to join the National Council of Churches
of Christ in the US as we aren't strictly a Christian church. He said, yes,
of course that in the US, Canada and many of the bigger areas the local
councils are only Christians but that this isn't true all over the world.
He said that the way to become 8 member of the WCC would be to try going in
through the African councils. Not the South African council as they are
currently under a lot of attack from WCC and internationally for aparthied
and therefore closely scrutinized.

He suggested that there are national councils of churches in Zaire,
Zimbobawe, and other similiar African nations that are more open. Due to
the traditional churches in Africa which are mainly not Christian but
tribal beliefs there is much greater acceptance in the religious community
there of nonChristian churches and many of themember churches of these
councils are tribal religions. Thus if we could get in comm lines with some
of these councils and get accepted as a member in one of these councils
that are already members of WCC then upon being accepted by the national
council the whole C of S would become a WCC member by this affiliation.
After being a WCC member the WCC could do more officially to assist in
handling attacks against the C of S's religious freedom internationally as
they would be doing so on behalf of a member church.

He also suggested that we meet with Mr. Theo Tschuy who is the director of
the European Council of Churches in the WCC building. Mr. Tschuy is also
program director of the Church's Human Rights Programme for the
implementation of the Helsinki Final Act. We set up a meeting for the next
day with Mr. Tschuy.

EUROPEAN COUNCIL OF CHURCHES

The next day we met with Mr. Tschuy. He was very friendly and interested in
talking with us. I gave him a copy of the presentation that had been done
to the UN and explained our
concern in being here and the recent attacks against new
religions particularly in Europe.

He was very sympathetic and commented that they have been looking at the
issue of the new religions and real ize that there isn't a problem with the
newer religions but that they are fulfilling needs that the traditional
churches obviously aren't doing so well at. This is why they are attracting
people from the older Churches. In response to this problem the Churches
are getting more active with their own congregations and should not be
involved in any way with attacking new religions. They are commited to
religious freedom.

I explained that the influence is psychiatric in all of these instances,
that the same psychiatrists are used to justify the Cottrell report, the
Vivien report, the Australian legislation, and the general antinew
religion hysteria. He was very interested in this and said that the
Churches in Europe are under the same type of attack. He mentioned a
Seventh Day Adventist family in Poland has just been mentally
institutionalized under the charge of delusional religious beliefs merely
because they were prostilitizing and quite vocal about being commited
Christians. He was aware that the psychiatric community has been involved
in antireligious activity for many years.

I explained the concept of man in a religious text and the concept of man
in the psychiatric mind and that this is the root of the problem. He
totally agreed and reached for the data on the psychs who are involved in
the Cottrell report type problems.

I told him about Jolly West and his involvement with the CIA mind control
program, about Margaret Singer and the fact that she isn't even board
certified, and about Dr. John Clark who has lied about his affiliations and
qualifications in addition to be centured for testifying about someone he'd
never met. Mr. Tschuy was very interested and completely understood that
such 'antireligious people could be accepted as "experts". He commented
that the religious community has to become more active generally in
fighting this threat from psychiatry to the whole religious field.

He commented that the Churches themselves, including C of S should do the
same, need to define their own needs and scope of operation needed in order
to carry out our mission. That then the governments must be liaised with
and gotten to give us this room to operate. He said that internationally
especially in Europe that the whole religious field has been in a defensive
posture and fighting attacks rather than being offensive and defining our
own goals and needs and demanding that room to achieve these goals are
given to us. They are beginning a project like this in Europe and he would
like to recieve from me a submission on what our Church feels it needs in
this light in
order to operate so that this can be incorporated into their
final conclusions which the WCC and European Council of Churches
will be pushing various governments to adopt.

I then mentioned the upcoming UN paper on religious freedom and that this
submission r had just given him on the psychiatric threat was designed to
fit into that paper. I told him about the Austrian government document
which details their attempts to undermine this report. Just laughed, and
said of course, Austria. Historically Austria is not known for religious
freedom, where do you think Hitler came from?

He then told us about an upcoming conference that he is organizing. There
is a section of the world surrounding the Black Sea called the Danube
region. The countries that compose this region are Switzerland, Federal
Republic of Germany, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Rumania
and Bulgaria. This is significant because it has been from this part of the
world that religious intolerance has been generated internationally.
Therefore they are having a very small conference of about 20 top religious
leaders from these countries to discuss what they can do to not only not
repeat history but to lead a proreligious liberty attitude in their own
countries. This conference will take place on 17th and 18th of Feb. 1986.
He is the chairman of the meeting. It is a closed meeting and no one can
go or observe but he would be very willing to take a detailed submission
from the C of S or the Crusade on religious freedom abuses in those
countries, particularly Austria. This should be very detailed with specific
abuses, especially if there are examples of some individual parishioners
being kept from practising their faith. Any firings for being a
Scientologist, harassment, denial of rights or benefits to open schools,
preach, disseminate etc he would be very interested in seeing. He could
then take this up at this conference and get the religious leaders in those
countries to take responsibility to assist in handling these antireligious
problems. 1

He also gave Dr. Paige a short summary of the meeting format (thisis
confidential and he was nervous to give it to us but agreed if it isn't
given to the press or disseminated). This outline details a final report to
be written with suggestions for handling problems from this area. The
report will be circulated not only to the Danube region churches but also
to all the member churches of the Conference of European Churches, Churches
of Christ in the US, and Canadian Council of Churches.

I promised that such a submission would definately be forthcoming.

He then asked what we would exactly want from his office. I said that we
just wanted to establish the comm line and to be able in the future to
present documented evidence of religious freedom abuses in Europe to him
for his assistance. He fully agreed to stay in comm and work with us on any
future religious freedom issues in Europe.

Another suggestion he made is that the Helsinki declaration
has parts that call for regular review of it's status. This is
signed by almost all the countries in the world and is a legally
 binding document in international law. The next conference is
coming up next year and some of these religious freedom issues
should be raised at that conference. This should be done through
a neutral country like the Neatherlands, Italy, African countries
etc. He said that the US and the UK are much too politically
motivated and any originations they make are almost automatically
considered anti USSR and vetoed by the USSR. Thus this would
not help. We should meet with the State Department person who
would be handling the Helsinki Accord conference from some of
these neutral countries where we have churches and get these
people to agree to take up problems like the South Australian
report, the vivien report etc.

Paul also told him about his spring marathon bike ride from Copenhagen to
Rome. Mr. Tschuy was interested and when the exact schedule is set Paul
will call him and let him know. He will be willing to meet with Paul when
he comes through Geneva and possibly help in getting other religious
leaders to be at an event to push the religious freedom message.

ORG EVENT

Finally in conclusion we held an event at the Geneva org. The Geneva org is
very small comprising about five rooms in the attic of a building. The
people there were very helpful and set up the event. There were eight
people who attended (this took up their whole Academy!!) Despite the small
group we held a very good event. Dr. Paige, Paul Rood, and r talked.

Paul Rood talked about his upcoming bike trip and the need for
Scientologists to pull together and make this an issue. The public were
interested and Paul got their agreement to come to an event when he comes
through.

I then talked about IAS and it's purposes and why it sponsored this trip. I
talked about the trip and the various comm lines that have been established
via this trip to Geneva. The public were all VGI's.

Dr. Paige then talked about the "Freedom hit squad" as he called it and
told them about the various activities that he has assisted on in
confronting antireligious sentiment and dead agenting the bad guys. He
explained about his recent trip to Dallas to the anticult seminar and how
this really totally turned the thing around. He explained that all they did
was work out what to do about the attack against them and defend their
position. He very highly complimented the C of S for it's excellant
research and providing the funding for these various projects. He pushed
this heavily and how the C of S was really very important and filling a
vital role in society The public
really loved his talk and that he was not a Scientologist and yet / was
very supportive. He was interupted with claps and laughing / many times.

 I then talked again about some of the funny stories from
 Dallas and Wingspread that Dr. Paige had told them about doing.
 The again public really loved this. I then pushed that they
 S needed to all buy their IAS membership immediately. Two were
 t already IAS members. The other 6 there were taken off by the OES
 to reg them to sign up. One girl had a consideration that she
 ; had to pay the full lifetime membership in one sum and had been
 saving up for it. I told her that I didn't think this was
 correct and that IAS needed the money now, not to wait until she
 had saved enough for a lifetime membership. She agreed to send
 in some money now and pay regularly. The OES went off to talk to
 her about the details. (The OES was the translator throughout
 and only two of these people spoke english ).

 Four of the eight people signed up to assist with the
 Crusade in Geneva and be available to help in going to meetings,
 delivering data and submissions to the council of churches or the
 UN as needed etc.

 That was it, then we returned to the US. This is being sent
 on the Merc for speed but also will follow in the mailpack with
 the various documents mentioned in this report attached for
 further information.
