Comments:  problem-free range is 1973-1999; it is somewhat manageable from
2000 to 2003 and then the rollover occurs. PIP will preserve dates up to 2003
in copying; it will ignore or clear the high bit if set, so that a file with a
2005 date becomes dated 1973 (can be fixed easily by a directory-zapping
utility if needed).
