ROY WOOD - ON TOUR & MORE!!!

The ROY WOOD BIG BAND launch their 1ST major UK Tour at The Wimbledon
Theatre (0181 540 0362) on Friday 24th October 1997, continuing
throughout the country during November and December.

The 12-strong BIG BAND features a 6-piece female brass section,
including 2 sets of sisters: Penny (27) and Sue (29), and Helen (21) and
Henzi (23) together with twin sisters Sharron and Michelle (27) on
backing vocals and keyboards. Woody is often heard muttering "It's a
terrible job, but someone has to do it"!

All the brass section have played for the National Youth Jazz Orchestra.
Members have also guested with Fuzz Box, Jools Holland, and Goldblade.

All dates will include NEW tracks from the forthcoming ALIVE! album (The
House of Love, Lion's Heart, and Bodicea) together with many of Roy's
hit songs, including BLACKBERRY WAY, FLOWERS IN THE RAIN, CALIFORNIA
MAN, SEE MY BABY JIVE, FOREVER, and I WISH IT COULD BE CHRISTMAS
EVERYDAY.

TALK TO ROY!

The tour will feature Roy Wood's classic hit singles for THE MOVE,
celebrated with the release of the NEW 3-CD BOX SET on Westside Records,
MOVEMENTS - 30th Anniversary Anthology.

FIND OUT WHY:

Roy Wood and The Move outraged Prime Minister Harold Wilson with FLOWERS
IN THE RAIN (the 1st ever record played on Radio 1) 30 years ago.

Roy started ELO in 1972 with Jeff Lynne and then dramatically left after
their first hit single to form WIZZARD.

Woody accepted invitations to perform live with OCEAN COLOUR SCENE, PAUL
WELLER, DODGY, REEVES & MORTIMER, CHEAP TRICK and FAIRPORT CONVENTION.

PAUL WELLER dedicates MERMAIDS on his new album HEAVY SOUL to "Mr. Roy
Wood".

STEVE ALBINI produced Roy's Move classic BRONTOSAURUS for Cheap Trick on
the new Sub Pop release

Roy is now a member of the SOCIETY OF DISTINGUISHED SONGWRITERS (along
with Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, Lionel Bart, and Graham Gouldman - a SOD
and proud of it!)

Roy Wood set up his own record label WOODY RECORDS and internet web site
- www.roywood.com

Roy will be touring BOSNIA, THE FALKLANDS, IRELAND, USA, and EUROPE.

But most of all: FIND OUT WHY WOODY is one of Britain's greatest popular
songwriters BY SEEING THE ROY WOOD BIG BAND ON THEIR 1997 UK TOUR!

Subject: Million selling records ???
Date: Mon, 13 Oct 1997 19:52:02 +0100
From: Euan Wilson

Hi,

One my travels this summer I bought a number of low budget CD's.
One range is called

Million Sellers - The 70's (disky label release 1992)

Volume 6 has "Are you ready to Rock" with 8 containing "Rock'n'roll
Winter", but did "Oh What a Shame" (volume 7) really sell a million?

Walking on Sunshine (volume 4) has Shine a little love,
full version, no edit.

Subject: Available CDs
Date: Thu, 16 Oct 1997 12:43:54 +0000
From: Lynn Hoskins

I've gotten several private notes from new subscribers asking about
available Move, Roy Wood & Wizzard CDs. I'll post what I know, and
perhaps others can add to my list.

THE MOVE:

Great Move!
Message From The Country
Shazam
Best Of (UK import)
Looking On (UK import)
The Move (German import)
BBC Sessions (UK import)

Any others?

The new Move box set covers the first three albums (plus some alternate
tracks) so no need to get "Shazam" or "Looking On," unless you have
money to burn. :) All of "Message From The Country" is included on
"Great Move!", plus some must-have singles. Here's the track listing:

Message From The Country
Ella James
No Time
Don't Mess Me Up
Until Your Mama's Gone
It Wasn't My Idea To Dance
The Minister
Ben Crawley Steel Company
The Words Of Aaron
My Marge
Tonight
Chinatown
Down On The Bay
California Man
Do Ya

ROY WOOD & WIZZARD:

Best of Roy Wood
Boulders
Starting Up
16 Greats From The '70s
Best Of & Rest Of (German import)
Through The Years (German import)
Singles (German import)
Best of Roy Wood & Wizzard (Netherlands)

You'll find almost all of "Mustard" on "16 Greats From The '70s," and
four tracks from "Wizzard's Brew" on "The Best of..." There's a Roy
Wood box set in the works, scheduled for release next summer.

Hope this helps!

From: Lynn Hoskins

In case you're not yet sick of seeing me post today, here's another.
The "Available CDs" list I compiled was a list of releases that are
easily obtained. In fact, they can all be purchased from CD stores
on the Web. E-mail me if you need more info.

Gallandro responded to my post, pointing out that some things are
technically "available," just REALLY HARD to find! With his
permission, I'm posting part of what he sent to me:

_Black Country Rock_ is a Move bootleg that is nearly identical to the
BBC Sessions disc. It was pressed in very limited quantities to begin
with, and probably had only a single print run. The main point though
is that it's mostly superfluous with the official release of the BBC
sessions. (The boot disc came out before these tracks were available
legally.)

_Mustard_ was on CD, although it's incredibly tough to find nowadays in
that format. (Maybe used??) It was released by a German reissue label
called Line.

_The Move_ and _Shazam_ used to be (and perhaps still are) available on
a Japenese two-fer. This doesn't really offer anything new to the Move
CD collector, as you can get both of these albums individually from
Repertoire for about the same price as a single Japanese import, and the
Repertoire versions come with bonus tracks. BOTH of these versions of
Shazam, however, have the botched version of "Don't make my baby blue"-
I haven't heard whether the new boxed set fixes this at long last.
Anyone know?

I mention this merely for the sake of completeness (or, at least, being
a step closer to it, as I'm sure there are many things I've forgotten or
don't know about.)

Special note to UK folks on the list...

Roy's going to be on the Debbie Thrower Show on Radio 2 on Friday,
October 24, at 1:30pm. Should be a great interview!

I hope somebody tapes this... (hint ;-)
