It was run by a nice fellow named Jack Springer (I think) somewhere in Ohio. Anyway, I have a few of the news bulletins stashed in my GIANT stack of memorabilia *somewhere* and I'm threatening to pull 'em out and possibly transcribe some of the text for the list if y'all are interested. I even remember a photo of an ersatz Move reunion (after what looks like many pints) at the Wizzard "Eddy & The Falcons" release party. Roy and Jeff jamming together - but I'm not sure if Bev was there or not. Good stuff. ********** Subject: Roy's radio interview schedule for Thursday & Friday! Date: Wed, 22 Oct 1997 19:02:41 +0000 From: Lynn Hoskins Get your finger ready to hit that "record" button! Here's what Roy has lined up for tomorrow (Thursday) in the UK: 1:30pm - Capital Gold 4:00pm - BBC GLR (Greater London Radio) Both are expected to be 1/2-hour interviews. And, don't forget, he'll be a guest on the Debbie Thrower Show this Friday afternoon at 1:30 on Radio 2. ********** Subject: Radio 2 interview Date: Fri, 24 Oct 1997 17:50:52 +0100 From: Euan Wilson" Roy's interview kicked off with Blackberry way, from the Move box set, nice to see some national plugging for it. Then a chat about the new band and then (in no real order) about the Move, Flowers in the Rain, drugs, formation of ELO, Wizzard ... Nothing new, but a nice plug for the tour and the box set, which was mentioned for second time when Flowers in the Rain was played. ********** Subject: Re: Radio 2 interview Date: Fri, 24 Oct 1997 10:51:44 +0000 From: Lynn Hoskins Euan wrote: > about the Move, Flowers in the Rain, drugs, formation of > ELO, Wizzard ... > Nothing new... Euan, for a lot of us in the U.S., it's ALL new! :) If you can remember any details, quotes, etc., would you please post? How did they get to talking about drugs? ********** Subject: Re: radio 2 interview Date: Sat, 25 Oct 1997 17:01:41 GMT From: Jon Hinchliffe I recorded the interview and don't mind passing on one copy to someone. I am not inclined to transcribe it but I did think it was slightly more interested that Euan suggested. ********** Subject: Second Class is first class! Date: Sat, 25 Oct 1997 19:09:55 +0000 From: Lynn Hoskins Sorry, I just can't keep quiet an hour longer. I got the box set!! It's all wonderful, of course. But, you know what my favorite cut is? A little backing track called "Second Class." I absolutely *love* listening to Roy play the guitar. (Great bass line, too.) You can really hear how he worked those strings. I'm in awe. After listening to it about 25 times, I couldn't help but be reminded of "All Join In" from Traffic's second album. As Winwood was from Birmingham as well, it's no doubt his guitar style was inspired by The Move. Has anyone else locked into this track? How sad that they never finished it! ********** Subject: Re: Second Class is first class! "She's too good for me, she did all she could for me, but I'm only second class..." ********** Subject: Re: Second Class (She's Too Good For Me!) "She's too > good for me, she did all she could for me, but I'm only second > class..." Geez, I didn't even make the connection. How right you are, Bill! The Anthology disc lists the track as "Second Class (aka She's Too Good For Me)" and it says in the liner notes that the track was never finished. Well, The Move never finished it. But, Roy sure did. On "Boulders" it's listed as the middle song in the Rock Medley, "She's Too Good For Me." It sounds, um, quite a bit different from the backing track on the Anthology. Do you think it could be Roy's singing? ;-) Something I neglected to mention about the backing track version is how INCREDIBLE Bev's drumming is. Wouldn't it be great to have an entire CD of Move backing tracks? I wish... ********** Subject: Rolling Stone interviews Date: Sun, 26 Oct 1997 01:53:42 -0500 (EST) From: Larry Harris Hi! Speaking of great bass tracks, I always thought that the bass Roy played on "Dancin At the Rainbow's End" was one of the best bass tracks he ever laid down. :-) I'm under the impression the Roy never had much interest in drugs. Maybe occasionally... I know the boys in Wizzard usually had a bottle of *something* around tho... I'm aware that Roy developed ulcers and was ordered by the doctor to slow down with the recording and touring around the time that Wizzard was disbanded. I wonder if the drinks played a part in this... A few years ago, I found at a University library some old interviews with Roy from Rolling Stone. They were from around the time ELO was recording the first album. Also some various reviews of the Brew album and even a review from when Wizzard opened for Black Oak Arkansas here in the US! I'll see if I can find these on the Net or I"ll go back to the library if need be. I want to share these with all of you. Keep yer hands on the wheel! ********** Subject: New Dave Morgan CD Date: Sun, 26 Oct 1997 13:05:08 -0000 From: Euan Wilson Hi all, Here's some information lifted off Dave Morgan's web pages. "Hi... As many of you will know, I've been writing songs since the year dot. In the 80's I was part of the world famous Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) group. Since becoming a Christian in 1988 I write mostly Christian songs (eg. CALL below). I don't have audio available at this site yet, so if you're interested you'll have to buy one. What a sales pitch huh? Anyway here's a short list of my songs... EARTH RISE - Tandy-Morgan. 12-tracks recorded in ELO period The BC Collection - Tandy Morgan Smith. 17-tracks Post-ELO CALL - David Scott-Morgan. 16-track Xian Music released Sep 1997 Sept 97 Prices To the UK: #14 Outside UK: #16 Sterling or US$30 Prices include Postage. VAT invoice available on request (for UK sales). + Free 7" vinyl record of Bethlehem Town: - the record company have given me their stocks of the Bethlehem Town / Christmas single. So if you send for a CD or Cassette, I can include a signed copy of this while stocks last. For purchasing info, e-mail me at scott-morgan@charis.co.uk" ----- So there you are a place to get CD's with Dave and Richard Tandy on. The track listings of Earthrise and BC Collection have been posted to these Newsgroups / email lists before, if you want more details about who / what / when etc. I sure one of us has emails we could forward. Call contains some "previously released material", for example, it contains the Jeff Lynne produced God's Good Time. This time its credited to Jeff rather than Otis Wilbury (as it was for the All God's Blessings cassettes) and its nice to have it on CD. Another track appearing on CD (to my knowledge) is the R&D track This is the day, from The Berlin 7". Other tracks are lifted from the All God's Blessings cassettes and its great To have them on CD. There are a number of new tracks. Strong rumours have it of a BC Collection revamp, due to nearly all the initial run having been Sold. It may take the form of the best tracks of BC with some new material or it may be a Complete new set, but this is something for next year.
