I have just these CD's by The Move "Movements" 3-CD set UK, and "Great Moves: Best of" 1-CD US. Is there a collection whereby The Move's best known tunes have been remixed or remastered to a fuller, punchier sound? I found most of the recordings of early stuff '66-'68 to be tinny sounding compared to other bands at that time. My only comparison has been their live appearance on the German TV show, 'Beat Beat Beat' in 1967 where they sounded great, better than their records. Thanks, Steve USA ********** Subject: Re: Remastered Move Date: Sat, 29 Mar 2003 00:13:44 -0800 From: Lynn Hoskins Steve wrote: >I'm brand new to the list and was curious if anyone knows the answer >to >this question? They're all imports - you can get them online from places like Amazon.com or CDUniverse.com, or Amazon.co.uk or CDZone.co.uk. I'd do a little price shopping. Of the comps available, my personal choice is The Move - Hits & Rarities/Singles A's & B's. The overall sound is a great improvement over "Movements." Any other opinions? If you were going to introduce a friend to The Move and wanted to buy them a new CD, which one would you get? Below are the details and track listings for three comps, BBC Sessions, and the German Repertoire reissues of the first three Move albums. We continue to keep our collective fingers crossed for when all four Move albums are remastered from the original multitrack tapes. Boy, that Move "BBC Sessions" is really hard to find, at least here in the USA. It looks really cool, thought, How does everyone like the BBC tracks ? It's a bit hard to find on the Net unless it's a special order. It's been on my want list. ********** Subject: Re: Remastered Move Date: Sat, 29 Mar 2003 09:14:28 -0800 From: "Tyler C.Sherman" Hi Steve, Welcome to the list. In addition to the comps Lynn mentioned, there is a very good reissue of "Shazam" on the German Repertoire label with the extended version of the live "Something Else" EP included as bonus material. While it may not be the sonically brilliant reissue we've all been hoping for (the master tapes are reportedly lost) it is probably the best version of this classic album, far better than that included with "Movements". You've come on board at an exciting time as a flurry of new releases with bonus material, in the works for some time, are about to be released. We're all waiting with bated breath the upcoming remastered, expanded version of "Message From The Country" and the first ever release of The Move live at the Fillmore West tapes. Thank you Tyler, for the welcome and for the helpful info on "Shazam"/"Something Else e.p." Repertoire CD. I'll check it out. This really does sound exciting about the upcoming "Message From The Country" and "The Move live at the Fillmore West" remaster/expanded CD's. What's the story on the Fillmore West live tapes? This is the first I've heard of it?! Wow, what a find! Do we know yet what label(s) are releasing these two CD's? You might try ordering from a UK online store like CDZone (http://www.cdzone.co.uk). You just pay with a credit card, they'll do the Sterling to Dollars conversion for you. Just do a "title" search for Move BBC Sessions. I'm in the U.S. - I've ordered from CDZone many times. Two of my faves from the Sessions: Blackberry Way & Goin' Back. So it was entirely appropriate to hear this song again on Tony Blackburn's debut on his new Breakfast Show on Classic Gold in London. And as a nice surprise, none other than Carl Wayne dropped in for a bit of a chat. Carl and Tony talked about the fact that Carl was now in the Hollies, after being in The Move all these so many years ago. Carl said that the Move ended roughly in 69 / 70, and that he had done many things after that, including the West End play, "Blood Brothers". Tony mentioned that he had seen it and how terrific that Carl was in this play. Carl said he joined the Hollies in late 99. Tony asked if it was difficult to do songs that others had written and done after doing his own songs for so long in the Move (never mind the fact that CW didn't actually write any of the songs!) Carl said it was a bit strange, but people love hearing brilliant songs, and thus didn't miss Alan Clarke as much as he was afraid they would. He said they play 4 Move songs, along with one Mud song, since Ray Stiles is also playing for the Hollies, They do ICHTGG, BW, FITR, and Fire Brigade (not positive about the last one). For the completists, it's "Tiger Feet" by Ray Stiles of Mud. They then played "I'm Alive", Carl said the new studio was quite cozy, and then they went to news. After the news, they discussed the sticky buns in the studio, pulled up the CW web page, and Carl said that web pages are a necessity ("vital") these days, to reach the fans. He credited Helen MacDonald with running the site. The then talked about the "massive" tour the Hollies are on, playing 54 dates, with stops soon in Croydon and Guildford. They play 32 songs in all, "the hits just keep coming", according to Carl. They are playing sit-down venues. And they ended with Carl saying that he was delighted to be sitting with Tony B- (for non UK list members, Tony Blackburn is a radio icon there; corny jokes, one after the other). And he mentioned that he would turn 60 on Aug 18th, and he was away. Perhaps to Great Portland Street, to catch a taxi? Greg did the best I could do ********** Subject: ELO 2 Date: Sun, 30 Mar 2003 12:42:50 -0800 From: "James Towill" ELO2 limited edition arrived through the letterbox yesterday morning. Superb stuff! Very attractive packaging, great photos and essays and track info, plus of course Mike D's, Richard's and Wilf's signatures on the CD being a great touch! The sound quality is first class on the entire set, the quality vastly improved on the original album material, in particular 'Kuiama' is even more grandiose than before (is there any better 'progressive ELO' track than this? It's one of my favourites for sure). Then we come to the previously unreleased material which is superb. In particular, the ELO/Carl Wayne collaborations are almost unbelievably good. Just how catchy is 'Your World'? Appreciation to all involved - another brilliant production. It's got me looking forward to even more unreleased and remastered material. Is there any info on 'Message From The Country' yet, Rob? Best wishes - an emphatic A+, gold star and a tick to the team! ********** Subject: ELO II Date: Sun, 30 Mar 2003 12:49:38 -0800 From: "Andrew Footman" Saturday evening falls. Great, Valve amps powered up. Magnepan speakers turned round ready for a good listen. Cup of tea while the amps warm up. The lp sounds pretty good so in with CD1. I expected it to be good. BUT NOT THIS GOOD! It kicks in with a clarity that took me by surprise. Bev's Drum Kit, Kick Drum on 1 foot of floor. Tom Tom and Snare between 2 and 3 foot of the floor. Cymbals above that. The strings Mood and Guitar with a clarity i would never have believed on this album. Momma, Jeff's voice so clear he is standing in the room! Jeff never sounded so good, no murky compressed sound here. The power of the live in the studio sound being recreated to amazing effect! Roll Over Beethoven - this never sounded so good. Bev bashing and the stings sounding fantastic. Boy could those folks play. No cheap chinese cello here thats for sure. Wilf, what a player! From The Sun To The World, this to me is Open Up Said The World's baby brother. It is so open great piano boogie the power of the band again shaking the floor. Mrs not to happy by now lol. Kuiama - this is just lovely. Again so clear. Jeff is in the room (Hey Jeff can you sign my CD mate! Alas no answer). I listen to the rest of CD it all sounds great. Lost Planet next. Er fine sounding stereo, aint this a BBC session. Check CD case. It is a BBC session. Blimey i expected mono, not stereo now that did surprise me. Carl on fine form, his golden voice belting out some songs which i would never of guess were being backed by ELO. ROB BBC session. Again what a cracking performance. In all fantastic. Now MFTC is next. What a cracking job Rob. Peter Mew has done a fantastic job of remastering this. Thanks to all. The last time I saw Roy Wood was when he was with Wizzard. The mid-seventies at the old Acedemy of Music on 14th St. in Manhattan. They were opening for Black Oak Akansas (what kind of deranged idiot put this bill together). They were great but unfortunately got booed off the stage. I've waited very patiently for over 25 years to see Roy's Revenge gig. It was definitely worth the wait. The band (Army) was tight, together and having a good time. A totally professional attitude. Roy was loose and full of energy. Plenty of good vibes to go around. I loved all the old tunes and dug the new stuff too. One question...Why didn't Roy do anything off his two solo records, 'Boulders' & 'Mustard'? Just curious. I even got to meet him before the show at sound check. What a nice man. The thrill of a life time for me. Great night. Great show. Great music. Sooo...When's Roy bringing his Army back to the States??? I sure hope they had a great time and want to return soon.
