Was just wandering through the Queen website http://www.queenworld.com and they mentioned the following, dated yesterday (29th March).... ROGER PLAYING LIVE TONIGHT Roger will be one of many special guests with the SAS Band tonight at Roverside Studios here in London. They are filming a pilot for a possible TV show - other guests are Chris Thompson, Roy Wood and Jeff Scott Soto. Busy little feller, isn't he?! All the best! ********** Subject: Re: Mr. Wood on TV? For those new to the list, there's also an Ace Kefford interview on the site. ********** Subject: The Move in June 2003 issue of Uncut Date: Fri, 2 May 2003 01:12:36 -0700 From: Lynn Hoskins The new issue of Uncut (June 2003) comes with a CD titled "Acid Daze," 18 psychedelic classics from the UK underground. The CD features The Move's "I Can Hear The Grass Grow" and some text written by Rob inside the CD sleeve. On the inside cover of the magazine, there's a great photo of The Move. Other bands on the "Acid Daze" CD include Syd Barrett, T. Rex, Small Faces, The Nice, The Hollies, and Status Quo. This issue is going out to subscribers now, and will hit UK newsstands shortly. In the U.S. you can find Uncut at places like Towers and Border's. Looking forward to picking this one up! ********** Subject: Re: The Move in June 2003 issue of Uncut Date: Fri, 2 May 2003 11:27:11 -0700 From: "Greg Weatherby" The exact line-up of the CD is, Tomorrow--My White Bicycle Syd Barrett--Octopus Move--I Can Hear The Grass Grow Nirvana--Rainbow Chaser Tyrannosaurus Rex--Once Upon The Seas Of Abyssinia Spencer Davis--Time Seller Kevin Ayers--Clarence In Wonderland The Smoke--My Friend Jack Hollies--King Midas In Reverse The Nice--Thoughts Of Emerlist Davjack Crazy World Of Arthur Brown--Spontaneous Apple Creation Small Faces--Green Circles Purple Gang--Granny Takes A Trip Dantalian's Chariot--Madman Running Through The Fields Status Quo--Ice In The Sun Pink Fairies--Never Never Land Executives--Ginza Strip Donovan--Atlantis I'm wondering if the issue will come with the CD in the US. A lot of times Brit mags with CDs don't include them because of licensing issues. It's a nice line up for BritPsych newbies, though I would quarrel with the Pink Fairies inclusion. ********** Subject: One down and Two to go! Date: Tue, 29 Apr 2003 03:38:21 -0700 From: "David Woodier" Question for Lynn or Rob or Gill or Roy himself! This gig is follows fairly closely on the back of the last R2 gig, is there any 'reason' for this? Having decided not to go to the last one (phew!) I am now having withdrawal symptoms as I haven't seen the Band since last September. Should I go or should I stay ... cue for a song! PLEASE HELP ME DECIDE!!!!!!!! On the SAW subject - I remember watching the programme, but can not recall seeing the album in the shops. I have a copy but can not remember if I bought it new or second hand. This is one of my least favourite Woody albums along with Looking On and second side of Shazam. I always find it interesting to hear how peoples tastes can vary so much, even with the same artist or genre. I do like a wide variety of music, but tend to lean towards the more poppier stuff. My best Woody period is the first half of the Seventies, maybe because that was when I really got interested in music and bought a lot. For sheer style, lyrical brilliance, doing the right stuff at the right time, image and having a larf you can't beat the last few Move singles, MFTC and all the Wizzard and solo stuff up to 1975. IMO. That is not to say Roy hasn't written a mean tune or two before or after and hopefully will continue to. ********** Subject: The Bullfrog responds (Part 2) Date: Tue, 29 Apr 2003 03:37:52 -0700 From: Lynn Hoskins Bev has been kind enough to answer another set of questions from the Move List. They are not for re-posting or re-distributing. Questions for Bev should be submitted to me, at lhoskins@earthlink.net. You can hear Bev on the radio every Monday from 8-10pm on Saga 105.7 FM. "Bev Bevan's Jude Box" features Bev's favorite songs from the fifties and sixties. Saga broadcasts live on the Web at www.saga.co.uk/1057fm. ----- Q1: The absolute zenith of your playing career for me was "Shazam". I've always wanted to know if you were using normal sticks or as on BBC2's "Colour Me Pop" (around the same time) those big headed "Kettle Drum" sticks? Your "rapid fire" snare drum playing during this period is truly PHENOMENAL! A1: Thanks. I agree as far as recordings go, that is. Just regular stick, with the left hand, one turned the other way around. Q2: Jeff is credited as playing drums on Feel Too Good. Was he the only drummer on the song, or did you contribute as well? If it was the latter, what parts did each of you do? A2: Jeff played all the drum parts on Feel Too Good. Q3: What is your favourite Move song to listen to? And, what was your favorite Move song to play live? A3: Listen - Cherry Blossom Clinic Re-visited, play live - So you wanna be a rock 'n roll star. Q4: Since Roy Wood's Army uses different drummers & bass players, would you consider playing with them if Roy asked you? A4: Roy recently asked me, the next time his regular drummer is unable to make a gig. Q5: We know you were a member of the Tony Iommi-led Black Sabbath in the mid 80's, and that you played on one album (Eternal Idol). On which tracks did you play with Sabbath that were commercially released? A5: I just played percussion on several tracks on the Eternal Idol. Also featured on the Sabbath videos 'Zero the hero' and 'Trashed' (also available on DVD). Q6: I heard that you once had an idea to form a super band from Birmingham around 1970. Is this true? If so, who did you have in mind for the band? A6: I've often been involved in rumours of 'Superbands' - up to and including last year! Nothing seems to come of these rumours however. Q7: How do you like your profession as a DJ on Saga? What is your favorite song to play on the radio? A7: Getting paid to play and talk about some of your favourite record? How cool is that! 'Stay with me baby' - Lorraine Ellison. ********** Subject: Re: The Bullfrog responds (Part 2) Date: Tue, 29 Apr 2003 03:58:58 -0700 From: "David Woodier" Bev said: >A4: Roy recently asked me, the next time his regular drummer is unable to >make a gig. I'm 46, saw Wizzard at the SM Civic in '74 and my band also tried Hello Susie and never got it right. I was lucky enough to have also seen Wizzard when they recorded a live radio show at that time - got to meet Rick Price and had a lengthy conversation with him. Shook Roy's hand and squeeked out a "Thanks for all the music." Lame... but hey, I was 18 years old. Just for fun, I said it to him again at the New York shows last year. It was as if no time had passed at all (yeah, RIGHT!). ********** Subject: Re: Tell us the news about yourself... Bourne, Lincolnshire England First re-collection of Roy was when I heard Fire Brigade and Blackberry Way Later Ball Park Incident and See My Baby Jive which as you know was a huge hit. I saw Wizzard in 1973 at The Embassy in Peterborough, UK I threw my Autograph book into the dressing room window and a short time later it was thrown back with all the signatures in. I still treasure this. I am going to see Roy in concert on July 18th in Kings Lynn, I might ask him to autograph my cover of Boulders, if I don't chicken out. I hope I don't look to sad as a grown family man, still clinging on to his lost youth. When I listen to See My Baby Jive I am 15 again. :-) Ray ********** Subject: Slowing down Hello Susie Date: Wed, 23 Apr 2003 12:11:31 -0700 From: "Andrew Footman" >I'd love to hear a good cover of Hello Susie (I was in a band that >tried it, but we never quite got it quite right . . .) Hi Larry, It is a very hard song to work out. I used TRANSKRIBER 2.0 which is the best means of slowing stuff down so you can work it out. Anyone who plays any instrument should check this out. It is a bargain - i have used it for a year now on my PC. It is fantastic and cheap to buy. Here's a link to find it: www.acutab.com Check out the demo's, believe me it can do a lot more than that and thats no bull. One clever thing - it will allow you to do if you play bass is shift the pitch 12 steps (One Octave) so you can hear the notes and not a grumble. It only touches what it can do on the site. ********** Subject: A better listen Date: Thu, 24 Apr 2003 03:18:57 -0700 From: Gmcorie Andrew, i was thinking (believe it or not), would transkriber 2.0 be of any help to me? the only instrument i play is the stereo. there's a lot of times i wish i could slow things down for a better listen. louisiana george ********** Subject: Re: A better listen Date: Thu, 24 Apr 2003 14:05:45 +0100 From: "Andrew Footman" Yes it will George. Only one feeling: gasp! Anyway, would these "outstanding collections" be singles collection + rarities? Is it in " release" order, more or less? By the way, I got the ELO II a couple of weeks ago and it is indeed one of the best reissue editions ever. I still prefer ELO I, if only for the incredible video, but this one is clearly in the same level as the first edition of First Light. Keep on going, Rob, you're doing many fan's dreams come sound. I was just intrigued by one thing: is Roy playing in any track? Apparently yes, but there is no credit for him in any of the bonus tracks, right? Now, if only someone decided to do this sort of thing with Denny Laine material from the 60's... ********** Subject: Song Of The Week: "Walk Upon The Water" Date: Tue, 29 Apr 2003 14:15:58 -0700 From: Lynn Hoskins Song Of The Week: April 28, 2003 "Walk Upon The Water" by The Move from the album "Move" Possible discussion topics: Vocals Songwriting Lyrics Instrumentation Arrangement/Production Strong or weak points *********************** "Walk Upon The Water" (R. I passed on a comment Roy said in a interview once. I would guess sales reached maybe a 1000 or so. I remember it being in the shops at most 3 months. Second hand and deleted stock went to the bargain bins of a few shops. At this time you got Roy's singles the week they came out or you struggled to find them. There was no radio play and no promotion. Starting Up was again just a few weeks in the shops, how many on the list got a copy of that on lp. Not many i bet, i have 2 one still sealed. SAW and SU are very rare but sadly are worth about £10 each if you can find them. I hope the remaster program will make this time round SAW a success. Like the USA copy of WOTRA'S AW never got a proper world wide release. In fact WOTRA never got a UK release. I found the USA deleted copy in HMV in 1980 for 99 pence! I did not even know the album existed! The singles cost more than that at the time! Thank god the internet is here and FTM and these great lists. More so thank god for Rob, Lynn and Ken who have got all us fans together. I for one only believed my brother and me still loved and remembered this stuff. It was only when i got a PC i found a lot of us world wide love the great music of Roy and co. At least this time all the fans can get Rob's remasters and find these lost albums many fans have never got to hear. This is not their fault, you just could not find them. SAW never got a US release and i bet when fans over their found out about it - it was too late for most to find a copy. Roy was let down by his management at the time. Many folks moan why he will not release a new CD. After the poor sales of his last 3 albums can you blame him! ********** Subject: Re: "Super Active Wizzo" Date: Tue, 29 Apr 2003 11:39:27 -0700 From: "Tyler C.Sherman" As a point of interest, "Super Active Wizzo" was actually assigned a catalog # here in the states by Warner Bros. It is dated July 12 1977 and has a release date of Aug. 26 1977 printed on the cover, which is plain white as is the label on the record. The person whose name appears as the overseer of the release is Lorrie Janson. The copy I have was sent to a Julian Coleman.
