1996  Announced the retirement of president and GM Norm Sonju.  Sonju had
      been with the team since 1979 (before there actually was a team)

2000  Former Mav Leon Smith received 18 months probation, was fined
      $1,000 in restitution, ordered to continue receiving therapy, and
      ordered to stay away from his ex-girlfriend for at least 2 years as
      a result of a charge of criminal damage to property.  The other
      charges against Smith were dropped.  Smith damaged the ex-girlfriend's
      mother's car while in Chicago last December.
