Former Mav Tim Legler led the scoring in the CBA All-Star game with 18 points. Jim Jackson passed Brad Davis' Mav record of 149 consecutive starts Friday night vs Minnesota. Jackson has started all 150 games he has been a Maverick. Jamal Mashburn's 742,815 votes in the All-Star balloting was a Mav high for votes received. The previous high was for Mark Aguirre with 347,357 in 87-88. Mash placed 3rd in Forwards for the Western conference. Jason Kidd finished 5th in guards with 744,587 and Jackson finished 7th in guards with 669,459 in the Western Conference. Reserves, who are selected by the coaches in the conference, will be announced Tuesday - hopefully Jackson or Mashburn will be selected. Roy Tarpley underwent a number of tests by his aftercare counselors to try to determine what has been causing his mood swings. Despite ugly rumors, his current swings are not drug or alcohol related (he is tested daily for cocaine, heroin, and alcohol use). And the Mavs placed Tarpley on IR due to his tendinitis in his right knee. Tarp has to miss at least 5 games. The Mavs have been investigating possible players they might want to give a 10-day contract to during Tarpley's absence. They will probably select whoever they want today, have him in town tomorrow, and signed Monday. Minnesota at Dallas (January 27) Donyell Marshall did not play due to attending a funeral. The first quarter started fairly evenly. Minnesota took a small lead midway through the quarter. Minnesota went on a 9-3 run to end the quarter and was up 28-23 after 1. Dallas was shooting 54% FG and Minnesota 45%. Dallas had 5 turnovers to Minnesota's 1 turnover. Jamal Mashburn, Popeye Jones, and Jim Jackson all had 6 points. Dallas cut Minnesota's lead to 89-77 with 7:42 left on a 3-pointers by Morlon Wiley. Minnesota scored the next 5 points as neither team played well and was up 94-77 with 5 minutes left. The teams were matching each other on possessions. Minnesota would make a 3, Dallas would make a 3; Minnesota would turn it over, Dallas would turn it over, Minnesota would miss, Dallas would miss. Dallas did not take advantage of any of the opportunities Minnesota gave them. Motta inserted the bench with 3 minutes left in preparation for tonight's game. For the first time in 3 quarters, the bench did what the starters could not do - cut Minnesota's lead to single digits with a 3-pointer by Lucious Harris with less than 30 seconds left. Minnesota won 102-94. Dallas looked lackluster the whole game. They did not have any enthusiasm and never looked into the game. Minnesota responded by having one of their best games. They were shooting incredibly well and finished the game shooting 54.4% FG, only the 3rd time this season they have shot above .500. Sean Rooks enjoyed his return to Dallas and had 18 points on 7-11 FG. Jason Kidd played only 28 minutes due to a head cold that was really bothering him. He had 3 points on 1-3 FG and 7 assists. Popeye Jones' back is still bothering him. 1 2 3 4 Final 2FG 3FG FG% FT% Minnesota 28 33 23 18 - 102 .545 .545 .545 .706 Dallas 23 27 22 22 - 94 .448 .235 .405 .786 Halftime: 61-50 Minnesota 3rd Q: 84-72 Minnesota Minnesota's largest lead: 82-64 2:23 3rd Dallas' largest lead: 8-4 8:33 1st Dallas' last lead: 12-11 6:27 1st Lead changes: 3 Technicals: none Refs: Bill Oakes, Bernie Fryer, Jim Kinsey Attendance: 17,352 (cap. 17,502) Minnesota Reb Player Min FGM-FGA 3PM-3PA FTM-FTA Pts O-T Ast TO F Stl Blk Doug West 39 7-11 0-1 3-3 17 0-6 3 1 2 0 0 Christian Laettner 38 8-18 1-1 4-6 21 5-7 2 2 2 0 2 Sean Rooks 38 7-11 0-0 4-5 18 3-6 0 3 4 0 0 Winston Garland 36 4-6 1-1 1-1 10 0-4 9 2 2 2 0 Isaiah Rider 38 8-16 4-7 0-0 20 1-5 4 2 6 0 0 Pat Durham 22 4-7 0-0 0-0 8 0-2 5 1 1 1 3 Greg Foster 10 1-2 0-0 0-2 2 0-2 0 1 4 0 0 Chris Smith 9 0-2 0-1 0-0 0 0-0 2 1 0 1 0 Charles Shackleford 10 3-4 0-0 0-0 6 1-2 0 0 3 0 0 Totals 240 42-77 6-11 12-17 102 10-34 25 13 24 4 5 Dallas Reb Player Min FGM-FGA 3PM-3PA FTM-FTA Pts O-T Ast TO F Stl Blk Jamal Mashburn 41 6-16 0-4 4-5 16 4-10 3 6 1 1 1 Popeye Jones 36 4-11 0-1 0-0 8 2-8 1 1 5 0 0 Lorenzo Williams 25 1-4 0-0 0-0 2 4-7 0 0 5 0 1 Jason Kidd 28 1-5 0-2 1-3 3 0-2 7 2 1 0 0 Jim Jackson 34 9-19 1-3 5-6 24 5-7 2 1 0 1 1 Morlon Wiley 20 2-6 2-6 0-0 6 0-2 4 2 2 1 0 Doug Smith 19 5-13 0-0 3-3 13 3-3 1 2 3 0 0 Donald Hodge 15 1-2 0-0 2-2 4 2-2 0 2 1 0 1 Lucious Harris 10 4-5 1-1 2-2 11 0-0 1 1 0 0 0 Terry Davis 8 0-0 0-0 1-2 1 0-4 0 0 2 0 0 Tony Dumas 4 1-3 0-0 4-5 6 1-1 0 0 0 0 0 Totals 240 34-84 4-17 22-28 94 21-46 19 17 20 3 4 patricia
